Speakers will be Jim Haserty, Don Johnson and Bob Hostctter. Leaves - Mrs. Mollie Cole, Uornbrook, left late lost week for San Carlos, Calif., where .he was called because of the death of her daughter, Mrs. Marshall Seagraves. Driver Injured - Anna May Thompson, 69, of 234 Seventh si., Ashland, suffered slight injuries when her auto collid ed with another car Thursday evening at B and First sis., Ashland. She did not require hospitalization, however. Dri ver of the oilier car was Ken neth Vance Rensfield, 21. of 155 Ohio st., Ashland, police said. Meeting Set - The Cal-Ore association will hold its monthly meeting at North's Chuck Wagon Tuesday, July 17. at 7:30 p.m. Topic for dis cussion will be culling the cow herd. Local and Personal Grass Fires - Medford fire men reported three grass fires Friday afternoon. At 3 p.m. a fire, starting from an incin erator, burned an area 40 by 80 feet at the Medford airport. At 4:46 p.m. fire spread from a burning trash pile and burn ed part of a field across from 410 Clover lane, but it was out when firemen arrived. Then at 6:44 p.m., a grass fire was reported behind St. Mary's High school, apparently caus ed by children playing with matches. Other than the grass burned in each incident, there was no damage. Wednesday Speaker - The Rev. L. Driver Cited - Evylan Janet Sowards, 33, of 628 Palm St., Medford, was cited for viola tion of basic rule by Medford police Thursday after the car she was driving collided with a vehicle operated by Ger trude Elaine Bartol, 24, of Ashland, about 10:45 p. m. on North Riverside ave. between Fourth and Jackson sts. No injuries were reported. Permits Issued - The Med ford building department is sued permits Thursday to Denny's Coffee Shop, 56 North Riverside ave., to erect a sign at an estimated cost of S4.000, and to Hutchins and Clark to erect a residence at 1571 Miracle lane at an ap proximate cost of $12,000. Boxes Burn- Cardboard boxes next to an incinerator caught fire Friday evening at the Biy Y market because the incinerator door had been left open, Medford firemen report ed. The fire dept. was called at 7:41 p.m., but there was no apparent damage. Improving - Leonard Brad shaw. Eagle Point, is improv ing at Sacred Heart hospital following surgery recently. He is not yet allowed to have visitors. Leave for California - Mr. and Mrs. Fred Chez, operators of the Chex Agency, Realtors, left yesterday for California, where they will visit relatives in Sacramento and San Jose. They plan to be gone about two weeks. Installation The Rev. Vernon Hanson will be in stalled as minister of Ascen sion Lutheran church, 2501 Barnett rd., at 8 o'clock to night at the church. Offici ating will be Dr. S. C. Seises, Seattle, assistant to the pres ident of the Northwest Dis trict of the American Luther an church. Mr. Hanson will speak at the 8:30 and 11 o'clock services at the church this morning. Grants Pass Youth Injured in Mishap Ashland - A seven-year-old pedestrian suffered multiple fractures when he was struck by an auto while attempting to cross a street Friday after noon. Ashland police reported. Taken to Ashland Commun ity hospital was Ronald Allen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. Allen of Grants Pass. As of Saturday afternoon he was reported "doing fine." The accident occurred at 1 p.m. at the intersection of Coolidge and North Main sts. Driver of the auto was Cur tice Yates of Hebo, Ore. The boy was crossing the street with his brothers and sisters and apparently did not see the car coming. OBITUARIES R. D. NANCE Ashland - R. D. Nance. 69, Salem, a former Ashland resi dent, died Friday in Portland. The body will lie in stale . from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Mon : day, July 16. in Litwiller's i Mountain View chapel. Ash- land. Graveside services will j then be held in Mountain View cemetery, with the Dr. i P. Malcolm Hammond offici ating. Nance left Ashland in He moved to Bonnc- and then to Sa- 17, 1883, in St. Louis. Mo. On Jan. 28. 1905, in Kans.is City, Mo., he enlisted with the U.S. Marine corps. He served for 28 years in both the U.S. Marine corps and the U.S. Army. Survivors include three sisters in Iowa. March 18, 1878, in Medford. She was the daughter of Thomas Anderson and Eliza Jane Hamlin, pioneers in the ' Rogue valley. j She was married to Wil I Mam Otto (Bud) Johnson June 1 2, 1895, in the old Johnson home, 476 North Main street, Ashland. The couple lived in Picnic Scheduled By Scout Officers A picnic for district officers and commissioners and their wives of the Crater Lake Council, Boy Scouts of Amer ica, will be held Tuesday. The picnic and short meet ing will commence the new Boy Scouting yearly program. It will be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Ingram, 1457 Whitman ave., Medford, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Those participating have been asked to take their part of the potluck, and table service. Sublette, 78, of 518 Fran quctte st., Medford, who died Wednesday, will be forward ed Monday to the Willamette National cemetery in Port land for services and inter ment. GEORGE R OBI SON Private funeral services for George Robison, 56, of 102 South Pioneer st., Ashland, who died Thursday, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Ashland Mortuary chapel. Fourth and C sts. Mr. Robison was born Aug. 22, 1906, in Elixandria, N.D., and was a veteran of many years service with the U.S. Coast Guard, retiring in 1943. He had lived in Ashland for 13 years, and was employed as clerk at the Robinson ho tel in Medford. He was married Mar. 16, 1948, in Oakland, Calif., to Corinne Robinson, who sur vives. He was a member of the Elks club. the home for many years af ter their marriage. Mr. John son was one of the first volun teer firemen in Ashland.
