Wayne Morse (D-Ore) fired hack Saturday at Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower's slashing at tack on the Kennedy admin istration, charging that the former president's medical hills have been paid all of his life by the taxpayers. As Eisenhower warned anew that the individual must he ever vigilant against en croachments on his freedom by big central government, Morse told a Saturday session of the Senate that the five star general's Gettysburg, Pa., arm is "largely subsidized by gifts." The White House declined any comment when asked for President Kennedy's reaction lo Eisenhower's attack at a GOP fund-raising dinner Fri day night. The former chief executive asserted the administration was floundering because it did not understand the U.S. economic system and he call ed on GOP candidates to at tack Kennedy programs. Morse rose on the Senate floor to declare that he was quite ready to take on Eisen hower in a debate over Ken nedy's programs during the senator's current reelection campaign. Public Hearing on Talent Sanitary District Scheduled A public hearing on the proposed South Talent Sani tary district will be held in the Jackson county court room at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Coun ty Judge Earl M. Miller has announced. Depending on the outcome of the public hearing, an elec tion may be called in the dis trict. Miller explained. If the Bettiol Named As Interim Sheriff Paul Bettiol, chief crimi nal deputy for the Jackson county sheriff's office, has re ceived the interim appoint ment as sheriff, the county court announced Friday aft ernoon. Bettiol will serve in the temporary capacity from July 1 until the successful candi date for sheriff in the No vember general election takes office Jan. 1. Bellini was recommended by the Jackson County Re publican Central committee Wednesday night. Although the county court had request ed three recommendations the committee submitted only one. Bettiol had informed the county court earlier that he does not plan to seek elec tion as sheriff. He also said he does not plan to change any of the present personnel in the sheriff's office. Financing of the sewer in stallation would have to be done through district bonding and not Bancroft bonding, the county judge pointed out. The sewer improvement does not apply to the whole county, so under current law financing through Bancroft bonding is not feasible. Miller explained. If a majority of the area property owners approve the sanitary district idea and it is approved at an election, the district would be assessed the cost of the study and survey made by Consulting Engineer James K. Hoey. If the resi dents of the area fail to ap prove the proposal, the county will stand the cost of the study. South of Talent The survey and study was requested by petition of ap proximately inn residents of the area south of Talent be tween the Southern Pacific railroad tracks and Bear Creek. The area included about 225 acres. The survey showed that 74 septic tanks and three cesspools now serve approxi mately 250 people. Allowing for future growth in the area, the consulting engineer rec ommended a sewer system which would serve 500 peo ple. If the dislrict is formed there should be a study of a possible central domestic wa ter supply and distribution system for the same area. He also recommended that sewage disposal facilities be developed jointly with the city of Talent, and the same firm of consulting engineer be retained to study the possible joint water and sewage facili ties for the city and the pro pos ed sewer district. Joinl development of sew aae and water facilities would make initial installation and construction costs arid system operation more economical, Hoey said Committee to Study Legislators' Pay Klamath Falls -HOT- Ore- party. The Pan Am strike was quickly stopped by a restrain ing order issued by a federal judge, but Eastern closed up shop and sent home its' nearly 18,000 employees, disrupting travel plans for hundreds of Americans. The Flight Engineers union, already inflamed by "govern ernment interference," called the strike despite pleas for a delay by George Meany, pres ident of the AFL-CIO, and the National Mediation board. Sternly Worded "The way is still open for a sensible solution without the injury, both to the parties and to the public, inherent in the present course of action," Kennedy said in a sternly worded statement Issued by the White House. The engineers union promptly responded with a statement by its president, Ronald A. Kennedy said the Trans World agreement should have been followed promptly by similar agreements with Pan Am and Eastern. The course was plainly open lo all flight engineer chapters for a sensible and equitable resolution of the issues in dispute, the chief executive said. "The good offices of the government were and are ful ly available, as they were in the TWA dispute, to assist in such a resolution. "Such a proffer was made last night by the National Me diation board. It is most re grettable that this offer was spurned by the flight engi neers."
