These are the berries we've been wait ing for and now that May is here, they'll be available right along headed for June July peaks, : These luscious beauties aren't to be compared with those earlier "imports." These are the huge, deep red ber ries. Juicy and with delicately iweet incomparable flavor. Strawberries have a habit of staying out of the bargain class so don't wait for straw berry jam- aking time to re ally enjoy them. They're reas onable in price and stay that way throughout the season with only an occasional flur ry as an enterprising fruit market man makes a buying coup, passes the savings on to customers. The same thing is true of the berries that come later in profusion from the Pacific Northwest. Serve these beauties "as is" with stems on for dipping in dividually into powdered sug ar. Or into dairy sour cream. Serve them, in all their glory with sugar and cream, whipped cream, dairy sour cream or with soft ice cream. The calorie counter and budg et-watcher will find that in stant crystals of nonfat dry milk into a topping that is airy, light, delicious. , Delight family and friends with strawberry shortcake, pie, tarts and puddings. Glaze your next cheese cake with fresh berries. Sauce ice cream, puddings, cakes with them. Strawberry Picture. In our picture today we sim ply halved strawberries, sprinkled them with powd ered sugar one-half cup sifted confectioners' sugar to two pints fresh berries, halved.) Continue whipping until stiff peaks form (three to four minutes longer). Gradually add one quarter cup sugar. Frotan Strawberry Caka This frozen strawberry cake is a thing of beauty as well as rarely good eating as you will know the instant you read the ingredients Eight servings from a nine-inch cake. 1 9-ounce can pineapple tidbits Water 1 6-ounce package straw berry-flavored gelatin 2 pints fresh strawberries 1 cup sugar ' 1 cup heavy cream i teaspoon lemon extract ' 1 pint vanilla ice cream, softened 20 Iadyfingers Drain pineapple; reserve syrup. Add enough water to reserved pineapple syrup to make two cups liquid Heat syrup mixture to boiling point; stir in gela'ln until dis solved. Chill until slightly thickened. Reserve six straw berries. Crush remaining ber ries; add sugar., . Whip cream; tir In lemon extract. Fold whipped cream, strawberry mixture and ire cream into gelatin. Line bot tom and side of nine-inch spring-form pan with lady fingers. Turn gelatin mixture into ladyfinger-1 i ned pan. Freeze until firm. Strawberry garnish! While packaging is import ant to all food packers, it is doubly important to the mak er of baby foods who must anticipate the nation!' i needs in terms of acreage planted to orchards and vegetables for nurturing with extra care. Beat eggs: add one tablespoon salsd q1 .nd milk. Add dry ingredients, beating with rot ary beater until smooth. Dip prepared vegetables (sug gested above) into batter; drain off excess. Fry, without crowding, in hot salad oil (to depth of 1 to l'i inches) at 375 degrees. Fritters cook in three to five minutes depend ing on size of pieces. Makes about one cup batter. Molded Salad Beautf For Buffet Supper For a molded ring of beau ty and also flavor distinction we suggest this recipe for en circling ham, tuna or chicken salad, as main course at luncheon or supper. Dissolve one package lemon gelatin dessert in one cup hot water; add one-quarter cup cold water. Chill until slight ly thickened. Fold in one nine- ounce can crushed pineapple, one-half cup minced sweet pickle, one-half cup chopped pecans and one-half cup heavy cream, whipped. Turn into l'i quart ring mold. Chill until firm, un mold on lettuce. Fill center with any favored meat, poul try or fish salad. Garnish as desired. Fancy AppU Relish For an apple relish delight for serving with all pork and poultry, combine two cups of canned apple sauce,, one-half cup diced celery, one-half cup seedless raisins and one-half cup cinnamon candies.
