APRIL 20. 1962 7 wise Easter Services Scheduled Throughout Area Six Services To Be Held Sunday By 1st Nazarenes Six simultaneous church school and worship services will be held at the First Church of the Nazarene,'520 North Holly st. Sunday from 9:45 to 11:30 a.m. These services are being di rected by several departments of the Sunday school which are giving their Easter pro grams. The nursery children, Mrs. A. F. Stewart, supervi sor, will have their classes, song's. Bible stories and rec ords extending into the wor ship hour. The kindergarten department, supervised by Mrs. C. W. Foster, will hold an Easter program of recita tions and songs at 10:30 a.m. following the' usual order of their department meeting. The Easter story will also be presented. Mrs. Kenneth Laurance, su pervisor of the primary de partment, has announced an Easter program followed by a film on the resurrection. Each child is to receive a gift. Mrs. Hex Goble. supervisor, wilL show the junior department, the movie. "Jesus Before the High Priest" following class sessions. They will also have a program followed by a film on the resurrection. The junior high and senior high departments combine for Easter activities and a color film, ' I Beheld His Glory." The adult department will not have its normal individual class sessions, but will have a panel lesson. Easter music will be presented in this de partment by the junior and primary choirs. Sanctuary Choir At the close of this service, (he sanctuary choir will sing 'Were You There" under the direction of Perry Christian sen, minister of music, and the pastor, the Rev. Harold M. Sanner, will give the Easter message on "A New and Liv ing Way." 11 was announced that par ents who may wish to attend children's departmental pro grams may do so. T h e Notrhwesl Nazarene College Men's Glee club from Nampa, Idaho, will present a sacred concert at 7:30 p.m. Di rection of the 30-voice male choir is Professor Marvin Bloomquist. Group sponsor is the Rev. Joseph Wright. A part of the days services is the annual Easter offering for the world missionary pro gram of the church. The Church of the Nazarene now has 560 missionaries around the world and 38 new mission aries under appointment. The First Church has re cently organized boys and girls clubs in conjunction with the denomination-wide club program, under the general heading of Caravans. First clubs organized are Indian Maidens and Indian Braves. The clubs will hold a kick-off pnw wow Tuesday, April 24. at 7:30 p.m. Mrs. Roy Green, Corvallis. senior guide of the Caravans, is to be the guest speaker. Lovin, state missionary for the Southern Baptist conven tion in southwestern Oregon, will conduct revival meetings beginning Easter Sunday, and continuing through April 29, at the First Baptist church in Phoenix. The meetings begin at 7:30 p.m. each night. Combined Service At Free Methodist The Free Methodist church will join the Grants Pass Free Methodist church tonight in a Good Friday service and Lord's supper in Grants Pass. The service will be held at 7:30 o'clock. The Sunday services will be i combined service, ac cording to the Sunday School Superintendent LeRoy C. Calkins. The Sunday school will meet in regular session at 9:45 a.m. for a short time, then all will go to the main auditorium. The Easter program, direct ed by Mrs. Kc.ineth Harger, wil be given by . children and youth of the Sunday school. This will be followed by a short message by the pastor, the Rev. Roland Stew art. Transportation will leave from the church a 5:10 a.m. for those wishing to attend the sunrise services at Hue ner's butte. There ' will be a junior church service conducted in the junior Sunday school au ditorium for third grade chil dren and all younger imme diately following their part in the Easter program. Mrs. Loy al J Smith and Mrs. Stewart are in charge of the service. Sunday school buses will leave the church near noon. The Rev. an Mrs. Gilman Houser from Southern Rho desia, Africa, will be at the church Thursday, April 26, for a service at 7:33 p.m. The Houscrs have been in Africa for a nu' .ber of years and will show colored slides. Plans for Area Youth Rally Announced The young people of the Church of Christ, 1701 West Main St.. will be host to an area wide youth rally on April 28. A goal of 300 young people in attendance has been set. A varied program for the day will include guest speak ers, panel discussions, sing spiration, and social gather ing around a bonfire. faster. Several com bined community services will also be held with the public invited to attend any of the services. The annual Ea3ter sunrise service will be held Sunday at 5:30 a.m. at Heuner's Butte near Jacksonville sponsored by the Medford Ministerial as sociation under the direction of the Medford Inter-churcn Youth Activities committee. Miss Virginia Gandt, First Baptist church, will be organ ist and will start the organ prelude at 5:25 a.m. Speaker will be the Rev. Roland Stewart, minister of Free Methodist church. The call to worship will be a trumpet trio by members of First Church of the Nazarene. They are Bob Hansen, Ruth Stiehl, and Harold Sanner Jr. The scripture will be read by Miss Julie Latham, First Christian church, and song di rector will be Dave Irving of First Presbyterian. The Rev. Wendell . Wagler, First Chris tian church, will give the prayer. Assisting with the ushering, parking of cars and distribu tion of programs will be mem bers of the First Methodist Boy Scout troop. Signs will be posted on Jacksonville highway and oth er roads leading to the site to direct motorists. Community Service The annual pilgrimage to the top of Table Rock moun tain Easter Sunday will start at 4:45 a.m., according to Dal las Purcell. A simple service, which is nondenominational will be held on the cliff. Purcell said that it is not a difficult walk to the top of the mountain. Breakfast will be served afterwards. The pilgrimage will start from the Purcell residence. Motorist should drive on Table Rock rd. to Highway 234, turn right to Meadows rd., left on Meadows rd. to Beagle rd., and left at Beagle rd. for about 2V4 miles. Beagle rd. is a dirt road, Purcell said. Signs will be posted from Table Rock rd. and Highway 234 to the Traunesian Sanc tuary. Ascension Lutheran A sunrise service will be held Easter at 0 a.m. at Ascen sion Lutheran church, 2501 Barnett rd. The Rev. Elvin S. Tollefson, pastor, will speak on "The First Easter Mes sage." A breakfast will be served at 7:30 a.m. Church of the Brethren The Church of the Brethren will begin their Easter day with a sunrise service on Roxy Ann at 5 a.m. The young peo ple of the church will be in charge and a breakfast will be served at the church after wards. Faith Advent Christian Sunrise services at Faith Advent Christian church, 2460 Roberts rd., will be held at 5:30 a.m., according to the Rev. Laurel Lee Crabb, minis ter. A breakfast will follow the service at the Gossett home, 2185 Stewart ave. Friends At 5:30 a.m. Easter there will be a sunrise service on the hill back of the J. W. Smith residence, Old Stage rd. Young people of the church will participate in the program, with Lee Foote, Portland Youth for Christ, as guest speaker. After the service breakfast will be served for high school and college age young people in the church fellowship hall. Grace Bible Church The Easter sunrise services by Grace Bible church will be held at the top of the moun tain on Griffin creek and Mud Springs rd. at 6 a.m. Open Bible Church Open Bible church will hold sunrise services in TouVclle State park at 5 a.m. Sunday. The Easter message will be by the Rev. Virgil Harsh, minister. The junior choir, under the direction of Mrs. Harsh, will sing songs centered on the birth of spring and the resur rection of Christ. Following the service the Men's fellowship of the church will serve Easter breakfast In the all-purpose room in the church, 2715 Table Rock rd. Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints A 6 30 a.m. Easter service will be held Sunday at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Tenth and Ivy sts. Pastor is Harold E. Crookcr. St. Mark's Episcopal The sunrise choral Eucha rist will be celebrated at 6:30 a m. Sunday at St Mark's Episcopal church. Music will ' be furnished by the senior , choif, directed by John Drys- dale, with Mrs. Ernest G. Con rad at the organ. The service will include the introit "Open the Gates" and the anthem "He Is Risen." The organ prelude will include Easter Meditation" and "I Know That My Redeemer Liveth." The service will be repeat ed at 11 a.m. with a sermon Easter Speaks to the New Age" by the Rev. George R. V. Bolster, rector. St. Peter's Lutheran The annual sunrise Easter service at the Starlite Drive-in theater, South Pacific high way, will be held by St. Peter's Lutheran church at 6:30 a.m. The Rev. John Simon will officiate and he said that no collection will be taken, but a gift will be given to all who attend. Those attending are to remain in their cars; program for the order of service will be furnished. Zion Lutheran The senior choir will sing at the 6 a.m. Easter service at Zion Lutheran church. Fourth st. and North Oak- dale ave. The Rev. H. C. Coo- vert will speak on "Hope of Man, Christ Is Risen." The choir will sing "Break Forth Into Joy." A breakfast will be served at the church at 7:15 a.m. Applegate Community - A community sunrise Easter service will be held by the churches of the Applegate area Sunday at 6 a.m. on Easter hill at Provolt. The Rev. Wayne McMillan of Jerome Prairie will speak. Ashland Sunrise services will be held at 6 a.m. Sunday at the Lilhia Drive-in Theater north of Ashland for all inter ested persons. The service, sponsored by Grace Lutheran church, will be conducted by the Rev. Al bert Nickodemus, pastor, who will speak on Christ's Easter Resurrection. Worshippers are asked to attend in their automobiles and worship with the others by the way of the loudspeak ers. Music used will be from records and tape recordings made by members of the con gregation's choir. Bulte Falls-The Rev. Rob ert Daniels will speak Sun day at the sunrise services at 6 a.m. in the Butte Falls park. The service is sponsored by the Butte Falls Assembly of God church. Central Point - A sunrise communion service at Com munity Bible church, Fourth and Alder sts., Central Point, will start Easter at 6:45 a.m. The Rev. Paul O. Kroon, min ister, will officiate. Eagle Point - Eagle Point Community Bible church will sponsor two sunrise services Sunday at 5:15 a.m. One will be for the junior and senior high school youth group at the Horace Webster home on Cra ter Lake highway. The other service will be held at Wool folk lake, according to the Rev. Warren L. Christcnsen, pastor. A breakfast will be served at the Webster home follow ing the service. Gold Hill-A sunrise service on Easter will be held at 5:30 a.m. on top of the hill at the city reservoir in Gold Hill. Uniting for the service will be the Community Methodist church, Christian church, and Assembly of God churches in Gold Hill. The Rev. Lochlen L. Gregory, pastor of the Methodist church will preach. Talent-Sunrise services will be at 6 a.m. at the top of Terrill rim- near Talent. The Rev. Gerald Nelson, assoc ate pastor of First Methodist church, Medford, will speak on "Accent on Sunrise." Persons planning to attend this service should turn onto Suncrest rd. at the Richfield station and Highway 99 in Talent. Signs will be posted for direction to the site. An Easter program will be presented by the choir direct ed by Dennis Samples. At the evening service Mr. Skaar will speak on "Yielding Ourselves to God." The youth choir will sing. Wednesday. April 25, will be the first service of a series of revival meetings which will be held at the church through May 6. Dr. Roy L. Johnson, super intendent of city mission work in Portland and Van couver, will be guest speaker. He is a graduate of Southwest ern Theological seminary, Ft. Worth, Texas, with a doctorate of theology degree. He served churches in Texas for 30 years before going to the Portland post. Services will be held nightly except Saturday at the church at 7:30 p.m. Cottage prayer meetings, under the direction 1 of Harvey Hurit, are being held in homes in and around Medford in preparation for the revival. John Simon (right) as Annual Community Service Scheduled at Medford High The eighth annual community Easter worship service sponsored by First Methodist church will be held in the Medford High School auditorium at 11 a.m. Dr. George Roseberry will preach on "Easter, A Sign Post for Humanity." There will be a 90-voicc choir singing "Now Let The Heavens Adore Thee" and "Easter Alleluia" for the community service. Seating is rranged for 1,200 worshipers. Two services 8 and 9:30 a.m. will be held at First Methodist church. There will be full choirs for each service. The Eat-' anthems for the 8 a.m. service will be "Alleluia; Hearts To Heaven Rise" and "Dutch Easter Carol." This service will feature the procession of a huge cross decorated with flowers provided by the chil dren. The cross will subsequently be placed outside the church entrance for the benefit of passers-by. Children are to take their flowers for the cross as soon after 3:15 p.m. as pos sible. In the event of rain, dec oration of the cross will take place under the marquee of Dagwcll Hall. Music, Sermon Told By Bethel Assembly The 11 a.m. Sunday service at Bethel Assembly of God, 1225 East McAndrcws rd., will include Easter music by the young people's choir and a message by the Rev. L. D. Krausc, pastor, "By Many In fallible Proofs." An announcement will be made at the 9:45 a.m. Sunday school opening service con cerning the 1962 Loyalty Campaign which will be launched April 29. The Rev. Robert W. Tull, minister of the church, will preach a sermon entitled "A Twentieth Century Easter" at both services. Coffee will be served on the church patio be tween the two services. The church school will be in session from 9:30 to noon. From 9:30 to 11 a.m. there will be pre-session activities for all ages and the Junior High class will meet. At 11 the regular church school clas ses for children from three years of age through sixth grade will meet. Child care for infants and toddlers will be provided during both serv ices. New Sanctuary For Reese Creek Reese Creek - Services will be held in the new Reese Creek Community church sanctuary Sunday at 11 a.m. The church Is on Butte Falls highway about one mile from Crater Lake highway. The Rev. William H. Colllcf Is pastor of the church hav ing arrived In the county from Phoenix, Ariz., In July, 1961. The new concrete block building was started several years ago and was built by donated labor. It will seat 250 persons. The interior has a laminated beam ceiling, mahogany pan eling and indirect lighting. A stained glass cross is on the west end of the building. Mrs. Collier will direct the choir for the Easter service. - The church was started in 1933 and for a number of years held services in the oM Reese Creek schoolhousc. Later the property was pur chased and donated to the group. Due to the growth of the congregation the old struo .' ture was no longer adequate. Circuit Official To Speak at Hall L. A. Mahan, traveling cir cuit representative for Ore gon, will speak Sunday at the local Kingdom hall of Jeho vah's Witnesses, 2402 Jackson ville highway.
