POUND OF COFFEE STRETCHED Americans' Coffee Drinking Habits Can Have International Repercussion fro By DICK WEST Washington - IUP0 - The United States has become so involved in world affairs that even our cof- ewn i fpp rimnlrlntf I J r1 habits can have interna tional reper cussions. At the mo ment, for in- stance, there is grave con cern in the Pan American Coffee Bureau over the coffee brewing trends in this coun try. - The bureau, which keenn its ear to the ground, if not In the grounds, on all matters concerning coffee, has discov ered that, we are tending to make the stuff weaker than we once did. The recom mended ages are six months, one, two, four, seven, 12 and 16 years. Importance of the ages is explained in a booklet, "The Seven Ages of Childhood," which is available from the more selected photographers. clal who made the presenta tion. A friendly press agent who happened to be standing near by told me that . the ladle, which holds two tablespoons of coffee, had been adopted by the bureau as the "stand ard" measure for a cup of coffee. "We're trying to give one to Jackie," he confided. Seek Surplus Use I also learned, between sips, that Latin American countries whose economies are largely dependent on cof fee exports are trying to find new ways to use surplus products. Among other things, they are turning coffee beans into fertilized and making them into a paste fodder for cattle.-. I would think, however. their best hope for a profit- making sideline would be a new product now on the mar ket in Brazil: Somebody , in that country has invented coffee-flavored lipsticks. It seems to me that lip stick like that ought to go over big in the United States. Think what a little caffenine would add to kissing.: In my household, however, It could lead to complications.
