JANUARY IS, 1961 ' ft h fll W: jf I ''If K I II ' i . if kv Mr. and Mrs. James Noah Allsup (Anders photo) Claudia Elizabeth Davis Wed to James Noah Allsup The wedding of Claudia Elizabeth Davis of Balboa, Ca nal Zone, and James Noah Allsup, Central Point, took place in the Zion Lutheran church Saturday, January 7. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert H. Da vis, Balboa, and the bride groom's parents are Mr.and (Mm. J. C. Allsup, 319 West Pine street, Central Point. ; The Rev. H. C. Coovert per formed the candlelight cere mony at three o'clock in the afternoon before a small num ber of friends and relatives. ' The bride wore a white wool sheath with white acces sories and a shoulder-length veil. Her flowers were white carnations and a yellow or chid. She was given in mar riage by her uncle, Forrest Ward, Talent. Miss Cheryl Lea Carnine, Camas Valley, attended the bride. She wore a beige sheath dress with white accessories and a pink rosebud corsage. Jay Clifford Bowker, Cen tral Point, was best man. Oth ers present included the bride's grandmother, Mrs. Pansy Davis; the bridegroom's grandmother, Mrs. N. A. Roy er, Bandon; and his parents. Mrs. Allsup wore an avocado colored suit with bone white accessories and a pink baby rosebud corsage. ,.A reception for the newly weds followed at the Allsup home, after which the couple left for southern California to make their home. The bride attended schools in Balboa and also Southern Oregon college. The bridegroom is a graduate of Crater High school and at tended SOC. He has been em ployed by Oregon Veneer com pany. The bride's family has lived in the Canal Zone for the past 20 years and the bridegroom's family has lived in this area for the past seven years. Roguette Circle Elects Officers Mrs. Russel Zundel was elected lady butterfly of Roguette circle, Military Or der of Lady Bugs, at their meeting Tuesday at the Veter ans of Foreign Wars hall. Others elected were Mrs. O. O. DeBerry, buttinsky for one year, and Mrs. Con Rost, butt insky for three year term. The officers were installed by Mrs. R. D. Schulz. ' Plans were made for attend ing the Military Order of Lady Bugs council of adminis tration to be held at Roseburg February 11 and 12. Mrs. Ivan Lusk, hospital representative, reported on the Christmas party held December 22 at the White City Veterans Adminis tration domiciliary. Luncheon was served by Mrs. Harold Sutherland as sisted by Mrs.'Lusk. The next meeting will be held Febru ary 14. Investiture Ceremonies Conducted Eagle Point- Six girls and four leaders were invested into the Girl Scouts of Ameri ca, Brownie Troop 184, at a ceremony Tuesday night after school in the Eagle Point High school band room. Mrs. Jack James, committee chair man, invested the leaders, Mrs. David Harbison and Mrs. Elmer Binker, and Com mitteewomen Mrs. Roy Nolen and Mrs. Lester Raber into the troop. She presented them with their scout leaders pins. Mrs. Elmer Binker pre sented pins and cards to Tan ya Harbison, Patsy Binker, Mara Linn Raber and Janice Dover, all second and third grade girls. Mrs. Harbison presented pins and cards to fourth grade Brownies Diane Harper and Linda Nolen following pe in vestiture ceremonies. Candlelight ceremonies were used, with the girls being pre sented to their leader by Brownie Scout Sheryll Stone. Each girl's mother stood be hind her to take part in "twist ing and turning her" before she looked into the pool to find the Brownie elf, follow ing the reading of the original Brownie story by their lead er. Terri Childers was candle lighter. Eagle Point Girl Scouts and their leaders, Mrs. Orville Stone and Mrs. Smith, were guests with Miss Jackie Smith leading the flag ceremonies. Guests of honor included two mothers, Mrs. Lena Harper and Mrs. Lauren Dover, and other mothers previously list ed. Kathy Fowler, Carolyn Stone and Palsy Binker were hostesses and furnished re freshments. At a recent meeting offi cers were elected for the fourth grade patrol. They are: president, Terry Childers, sec retary, Sherryll Stone; vice president, Diane Harper; treasurer, Linda Nolen; re porter, Kathy Fowler. In the second and third grade patrol, Tanya Harbison was elected president, Patsy Binker, vice-president; Janice Dover, secretary, and Mara Linn Raber, treasurer. Offi cers will be re-elected each month to give each girl a chance to be an officer and gain the necessary experience of helping run the meetings. Plan Party The Get Together club will hold a public card party Fri day, January 20. at the Girls Community club. A dessert luncheon will be served at 1 p.m. followed by cards. H.X I 1 H Mr. and Mrs. Donald Pearca Ceremony At Church Weds Pair St. Peter's Lutheran church was the scene of the wedding December 24 of Miss Frances Wagenblast, 361 O'Gara street, to Donald Pearce, Sac ramento, Calif. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Gordon Herman, Concord, Calif., and the bridegroom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Ross Painter, Jacksonville. The Rev. John Simon per formed the ceremony at four o'clock in the afternoon be fore a small number of friends and relatives. Mrs. Joe Hoyt played the organ and Mrs. Robert Joliffe and Ronald An sted sang. Mrs. Don Bradley was ma tron of honor for her cousin and Eugene Mosser served as best man. Ushers were Owen Brisllin, Charles Hoyt and Richard Meister. The bride, who was given in marriage by Don Bradley, wore a while satin brocade sheath dress with white ac cessories and a short illusion veil. She caried a bouquet of red camellias and white carnations. Mrs. Bradley wore a sheath of red satin brocade with black accessories and a red camellia and white carnation corsage. At the reception which fol lowed in the Pythian hall, Mrs. Charles Hoyt served the wedding cake and Miss Vir ginia Pearce poured punch. The bride attended schools in The Dalles and the bride groom attended Laurelwood academy and schools in Gas ton. Oregon. The young couple will reside in Sacramento, where he is an employee of the Aero Jet corporation. For traveling, the bride wore a smoke green suit with beige accessories. Six other students of the class received above-superior grades in ihe examination re- quired before receiving a li cense for practical nursing. Word has been received that the class as a whole received a 99 percentile nationally. Mrs. Hansen is employed at Rogue Valley hospital. Voters will be represented at the Carrie Chapman Catt me morial fund conference in San Francisco January 16-19, by Mrs. Fred Burich, foreign pol icy chairman, and Mrs. Ken neth H. Baker, second vice president. The San Francisco confer ence will be the second in a series of regional meetings de signed to build understanding of the role of the United Na tions in promoting peace through economic develop ment. The Carrie Chapman Catt memorial fund, with a grant received from the Insti tute, for International Order, has enlisted the assistance of the League of Women Voters to secure cooperation of indi viduals and organizations in building citizen and commu nity understanding of the three major ideas which the project has to communicate. These ideas are: (1) estab lish the urgent need for world economic development; (2) ex plain what the United Nations is doing to meet the need; (3) clarify why use of UN chan nels for international econ omic cooperation is advantag eous. One of the principal speak ers at San Francisco will be Dr. Field Haviland Jr., direc tor, foreign policy studies, of Brookings Institution, Wash ington, D.C. Methods of com municating the Ideas pre sented at the conference will be given to the delegates so that they may be transmitted to the many communities rep resented. Mrs. Dunbar Car penter, President of the Med ford League of Women Vot ers, stated that the League feels "this is a splendid oppor tunity for some of its mem bers to obtain first-hand in formation on foreign econom ic policy which they can then pass on to other league mem bers and to the community." Pastor, Wife To Give Program Talent - The Rev. and Mrs. Earnest Bell will be in charge of the program at a meeting of Priscilla circle of Talent Methodist church Monday, January 16. Members will meet at 7:30 p.m. at the church annex. "The mission of our church" will be the evening's topic and the Rev. Mr. Bell will talk on work with college stu dents through the Wesley foundation. A number of stu dents from Southern Oregon college will assist with the program and a colored film, "The Church at the Campus," will be shown. Hostesses will be Mrs. Mil dred Schmclzer, Mrs. Mary Furrer and Marie Furrer. Meeting To Honor Chapter Sidelinders Jacksonville - "Sideliners" of Adarel chapter. Order of the Eastern Star, will be hon ored at a meeting January 26, Thursday, at 8 p.m. at the Masonic temple Jacksonville. Mrs. Charles Coggins, cap tain of the daisy chain, will be In charge of refreshments. Mrs. Ralph Lawrence, Mrs. Irvin Wolgamott, Gail Buf fington and Roy Picard will assist. Mr. and Mrs. Fred M. Gardner, worthy Patron and Matron will preside. Discussion units of the Medford League of Women Voters will review the book let "How Much Do You Know About Jackson County?" at their January meetings. Mrs. Ogden Kellogg is chairman of the League s study on "the evaluation of Jackson county government in relation to county home rule." Members of the evaluation committee will assist the units In discussion of county government "in relation to basic principles of county home rule" and work of the county charter committee, Mrs. Kellogg said. They will also discuss possible future tec. League members have been attending meetings of the county charter committee. Representatives also were present at the recent home rule clinic held in Portland by the Association of Oregon Counties. The discussion units will be held at the homes of Mrs. Nor man Capsey, 60 South Modoc avenue, at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, January 17; Mrs. Donald Bohnert, Taylor road, Central Point, at 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 18; and Mrs. Thomas Rutter, 1033 Queen Anne ave nue, at 8 p.m. Monday, Janu ary 23. Two more units will be held in Ashland January 24 and 26. All women interested in the non-partisan study of govern ment are invited by the League to attend any of the unit meetings. Club Hears Talk OnGrowing Roses Yreka-Seventeen members and guests of the evening group of the Garden club met at the home of Mrs. Wallace Turre, 310 Blake street Yreka, January 9 at 8 p.m. Mrs. Ray Penney, chairman of the club presided. Mrs. Lawrence Hastings, program chairman Introduced Al Creb- bins who gave a talk on roses. Mr. Crebbins is an au thority on the growing of roses in this community and part ot the slate. ' His talk was on the origin of roses and how they grow In every part of the globe. The wild rose is now hybrid ized by nature and grafted by man. Crebbins spoke of the various types, their culture how to plant, the best time of year to prune and fertilize and what to look for when buying in stores or nurseries. The next meeting of the garden club will be at the home of Mrs. Arnold Grin- vick, just south of Yreka. The hostess Mrs. Turre served re freshments al the close of the meeting.
