6 B SUNDAY, JANUARY 15, 1961 MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE, MEDFORD, ORE, Board, Women's Council Hold Installation Dinner Officers to serve the Med ford Realty board and the Wo men's Council of the Medford Realty board were installed at a dinner meeting of the two groups held Tuesday night at The Dardanelle, Gold Hill. Distinguished guests in at tendance were Robert Jensen, Salem, Oregon real estate com missioner; Mrs. Carolyn Bow les, Portland, president of the Women's Council of the Na tional Association of Real Es tate boards and Mrs. Collie Cornell, Beaverton, president of the Women's Council of the Oregon Association of Real Estate boards. Mr. Jensen spoke briefly, re minding his listeners that the chief purpose of the state real ty commissioner's office is "protection of the public." Mr. Jensen said that during his term of ofice he has en deavored to broaden the pro . gram of education for work ers in real estate, and explain ed that courses are being given in all the cities of Ore gon, rather than the largest centers, as in the past. Some of these courses are such that those enrolling and passing may receive college credit, the commissioner declared. H. O. Martin was inducted as president of the Medford Realty board. He succeeds William R. Fronhmayer, who presided during the board's portion of the meeting. Oth ers installed were Keith Bates, vice-president; Mrs, Janie Pace, secretary, and Mr. Fronhmayer, Ivan Peo ples, Don Herried and Clark Walker, directors. In accepting his office, Mr, Martin said members of the board should strive to main tain high Ideals and purposes, and .to observe a moral code of ethics. He pointed out that a larger percentage of Negroes own homes in the United States than any other minority group in any other country, and added that this was duo in part to the help given them by the nation's real estate dealers. Taking office for the Wo men's council was Mrs. Mary Fasel, who has served as prei ident since the group was formed several months ago. Installed with her were Mrs, Margaret Naples, Central Point, vice-president, and Mrs. Ann Rice, secretary-treasurer. Mrs. Cornell conducted the installation ceremony for the women. In a brief talk she said that one of the objects of the state council is to raise the status of women realtors. Mrs. Bowles, whose term as national president expires this month, spoke on the de sire of realtors to raise their work to "true professional status." She pointed out that the realty business "has come a Ions way" in recent years and said that if progress 'Is to be continued the code of ethics must be enforced and that realtors must be known for their integrity and honesty, and must inspire confidence. Mrs. Bowles spoke of the program of education which the councils throughout the United States carry on, and said realtors "have no excuse for being ill-informed, She spoke of the expanding fields open to those in tne real es tate business, mentioning ap praisal, counseling and prop erty management. She men tioned that realtors must work hard to see that slum areas are abolished, and must join with other citizens "to build a better America." Mrs. Mary Maass, member of the Women's council and retiring secretary of the Med ford Realty board, was pre sented a farewell gift. She is leaving Medford soon to live In Great Falls, Mont. Mrs. Fasel introduced the women's committee which had made arrangements for the dinner. They were Mrs. Bert Free, chairman, Mrs. Lorraine von der Heilen, Mrs. Margue rite onrad and Mrs. Helen Fosbury. A cocktail hour preceded the dinner, and dancing fol lowed. About 85 persons at tended. Student Returns To California Gold Hill-Terry Cooper has returned to his studies at Sac ramento City college in Cali fornia, after spending the hol idays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest H. Cooper and family. IOZIER LANE Dr. Robert Buck will show slides and talk on "Cancer of the Bone and Leukemia in Children" at a meeting of the Jackson County Council of Parent-Teacher associations at Central Point Grange hall Wednesday, January 18, at 1 p.m. The council session will be gin at 9:30 a.m. with a coffee hour. The Rev. Robert Olm sted will give an opening med itation at 10 a.m. Mrs. Leigh Gustison, Med ford, president of the Oregon Congress of Parents and Teachers, will report on the Governor's Conference on Children and Youth. Mrs. Rod ney Merriman will talk on the P T A sponsored tuition scholarships and Mrs. Owen Kunkel will speak on "Price's Points to Ponder." These are based on material provided by Mrs. Leon Price, publicity chairman of the National Con gress of Parents and Teachers. Election of the nominating committee is planned. A clinic will be held on ROSS LANE Gold Hill Class Honors Enlistee Gold Hill - Charles Price was honored at a farewell gathering given by members of the teen-age Sunday school class of the Gold Hill Assem bly of God church. The party was held at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wil liam Price. Young Price has enlisted in the United States Air Force. The patriotic theme was used for decorations. Red, white and blue streamers to which , small airplanes were attached decorated the room for the occasion. . Miss Judi Wilson was in charge of de cor. Guests were James McCoy, Miss Erma Lee Governor, Bruce Downing, Miss Phylis McCoy, Miss Janice Newland, Arlln White, the Rev. Charles Pearson, pnstor of the church, Mr, and Mrs. Jerry Reeves, brothcr-in-Inw and sister of the honoroe, and his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Wil liam McHarguo. Lodge Seeking Meeting Place Medford Neighbors of Wood craft, which has been meeting in the Eagles hall, is making plans to find a new meeting location. It was stated that the hall is up for sale. Mrs. Rii ford Kight and Mrs. Edith Dcvaney were named by the guardian neighbor, Mrs. Ida Kelly, as a commit tee to investigate a new meet ing place. The Neighbors plan a pot luck dinner and meeting Janu ary 23. The Senior Citizens or chestra will be guests for the dinner and will play following the meal. Mrs. Enos Naffzigcr is chairman. At a business meeting Fcb- 'riiary 13 officers will be elected. Mrs. George Walson and Mrs. Marian Ley will serve refreshments. Film Shown For Nursery Teachers The film "Shyness" was shown at the January meet ing of the Southern Oregon chapter of the Oregon Asso ciation of Nursery Education, held at Kent's kindergarten. Thomas L. Goff, psychiatric social worker from the South ern Oregon Child Guidance clinic, discussed the film with the group and also informed them of the services madiO available by the clinic. At the February meeting of the association. Dr. Phyllis Butler of Southern Oregon college will be the guest speaker. O parliamentary procedure for nomination committees and election of officers, with Mrs. Emerson Anderson" and Mrs. William Seibert in charge. Mrs. Scott Hamilton will head a discussion group for safety chairmen and Mrs. Vernon Co'peland and Mrs. Lewis Du senberry a study for member ship and room representative chairman. At noon a luncheon will be served by the Central Point PTA for a small charge. Child care will be provided for a small charge per family, how ever lunch is not provided for the children. Sojourners Club Holds Officer Installation Mrs. Evelyn Hendricks was installed president of the Med ford Sojourners club January 12 at the Girls Community club. Mrs. Dee Wood was the installing officer. Other officers installed were Mrs. Glen Tuttle, first vice - president; Mrs. Hilton Griffith, second vice-president; Mrs. Robert Babcock, secretary; and Mrs. H. F. Jenkins, treasurer.. Appointed officers were Mrs. Jerry Schwinler, hospitality chairman; Mrs. Walter Mar: quess, publicity chairman; and Mrs. Asa Lemon, remem brance chairman. Orchid corsages were pre sented to Mrs. Hendricks and the retiring president, Mrs. Two Chapters Plan Luncheons Two chapters of the PEO sisterhood will meet Wednes day, January 18. Members of CG will meet at 12:30 p.m. at the home of Mrs. E. L. Bartholomew, 2635 Hill crest road, for luncheon. A program on Cottey college, a school for girls which the sis terhood supports, will be giv en by Mrs. Bartholomew. Mrs. Edmund L. Simmons and Mrs. R. J. O'Sullivan will assist the hostess. Chapter CP will meet at 12:30 o'clock for luncheon at the home of Mrs. George Rose berry, 3310 Hollywood ave nue. Mrs. Arthur Schoenburg will present a program on con temporary art. Assisting the hostess will be Mrs. Everett Faber and Mrs. Edwin Strother. Meeting Planned Central Point-Nevita Past Matron's club will meet at the home of Mrs. Mary Note. 32 Hamilton street, Medford, Wednesday, January 18. Des sert will be served at 1 p.m., with Mrs. M. W. McGrew as co-hostess. Mrs. McGrew is the new president of the club and Mrs. Elizabeth Faber is secretary. Elmer Ness. The corsages were gifts from Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hoppe. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs. Wayne Craig, Mrs. Fred Beyer and Mrs. Charles Swenson. The refreshment ta ble was decorated with yellow candles in silver candlehold ers and a silver bdwl of aca cia, stock and chrysanthe mums. Prospective members attend ing for the first time were Mrs. James Briggs, Mrs. An drew Foley, Mrs. Arthur Reisch and Mrs. Clifford Reeves. Mrs. Frieda Bauer, Culver City, Calif., was a guest. After the business meeting cards were played with prizes going to Mrs. Andrew Foley and Mrs. Alexander Collins for bridge; pinochle to Mrs. Virgil Morton and Mrs. Jerry Schwinler; canasta to Mrs. Everett Hardin and Mrs. Hen ry Robertson. A special award was received by Mrs. Walter Zimdar. The next meeting of the club will be held January 26 at the Girls Community club.
