Her candid answers during interviews with the press have sent several members of the studio publicity departments scurrying for their ulcer pills. Nancy, edu cated in England, Is about as Chinese as egg too yung in an Elk City, Okla., hash house, The publicity boys wax ecstatic when describing her charms and talent. "Her , long - lashed dark- brown eyes require special makeup to give them the Oriental slant necessary to play the Chinese 'Yum Yum1 elrl, Suzle." Asked how she won the role In the first place, she candid ly explains it was because she and a famous movie mogul Were friends. : Her press agent gasped and hastily explained this is Nan cy's Idea of a joke, adding that the bigwig is happily married. Group Officials Said Communistic l Washington - (UPD -The House Committee on Un American Activities claims fix officials of a new national organization trying to abolish the committee have been iden tified as members of the Com munist party. ' The committee said a sev enth official had been Iden tified by the state department as having . belonged to the Communist party in Germany before coming to the United States in 1933. Target of the House group was the "National Committee to Abolish the Un-American Activities Committee." The congressional commit tee said its opponents were holding their first meeting in New York today. It Identified the six offic ials as Harvey O'Connor, Rhode Island; Florence Lus comb, Massachusetts; the Rev. William Howard Melish, New York; Russ Nixon, Washing ton, D.C.;; Frank Wilkinson, Los Angeles and Richard Crl ley, Chicago. The committee said In a statement the state . depart ment denied Dr. Otto Nathan, New York, a passport In 19SS because he had been a mem ber of -the Communist party In the early thirties and had ince been "closely associated with known Communists." The 21-year-old native of Hong Kong was signed after five screen tests. Nancy laughed merrily during his ex planation. Actually, the tiny 5 feet 2, 103 pounds actress lucked into her role In "The World of Suzie Wong." ' . Police Seek Man For $300 Theft The cash register in Stan's Market at Crater Lake high way and Sams Valley highway junction was robbed of $300 Tuesday afternoon, state po lice said. State police are looking for man, young woman and in fant. The man was reported, by Mrs. Stanley Straus, wife of the store owner, as a pos sible suspect. He was the last one In the store alone just be fore the currency was discov ered missing, she explained. .Mrs. Straus said the man bought two bottles of soft drink, drove his car to the gas pumps, then insisted on paying for both items before he had received the gas. He was alone In the store while she was pumping gas, she said. Medford police found the blue Pontiac he was driving at the Big Y market at the north limits of Medford. Of ficers learned later that he had hired a cab to take he and his family to Hanley rd. where they bought the second car. Descriptions given by the cab driver and former car owner coresponded, police said. The cab driver said his passenger was carrying a large roll of bills. Labor Organizations Listed in Directory Salem -(UPD- The State La bor Bureau said Wednesday it has published a directory of labor organizations In Oregon and the booklet is available at the Salem and Portland of fices of the State Labor De partment. This Is the first time the union directory has been pre sented in separate booklet form. Labor Commissioner Nor man O. Nilsen said the book also lists principal officers and addresses of International unions.
