Drs. Arthur Couch and Kenneth Keniston ot Harvard University reported in the current issue ol the Journal of Abnormal and Social Psy chology that persons who con sistently answer "yes" . or true on questionnaires also i tend to be impulsive, depen dent and anxious. Persons ; who habitually disagree and I answer "no" or "false" on i various tests are responsible, table persons who control their impulses, they said. The tendencies of yes-men and no-men were confirmed through tests and clinical In terviews. Yes - men were shown to be individuals of weak self-control - who grati fy their impulses without res ervation and who easily re spond to suggestions given them. Suppreis Impulses No-men, on the other hand, inhibit and suppress their im pulses and reject attempts to influence their emotions. All this may indicate the . more profound reasons for the development of the two types of personality, the psy chologists said. The implica tion is that during an early period of personality forma tion, the two types found op posite answers in regard to certain control of the self. Yes -men, still relying on outside control, indulge in the gratification of impulse. The no-men take over the external control of themselves which their parents originally had, and suppress their own im pulses. Whistling Swans Dyed To Study Migration Routes Washington -(Science Service)- The Fish and Wildlife Service here has been dyeing whistling swans vivid colors to learn more about their migratory movements. With their wings, tails or other body parts colored blue, yellow, green or red, the swans are easier to observe both when flying and resting on the ground. The Service is interested in determining over which states the birds fly in their annual migra tions. There are about 77,005 whistlers in the U. S. A little more than half of these win ter along the Atlantic Coast, especially the Chesapeake Bay area, while the remain der winter along the Pacific Coast. The swans nest in Canada, roughly from Alaska eastward to Baffin Island. Small Sampling Dyed Actually only a very small sampling of the whistling swan population is being dyed. This is because of the difficulty in trapping the four - foot long birds. Mass dyeing, however, is not con sidered necessary. ' The dyes used normally do not remain on the swans for very long. When the swans molt after nesting, they lose their colored feathers. Allen Duvall of the Serv ice's branch of wildlife re seach said dyeing techniques have been used previously with snow geese with satis factory results. Persons who spot dyed whistlers are asked to report their observations to the Patuxent Wildlife Re search Center, Laurel, Md. Cranberry Crop Indemnity Set .
