' 'A', ',' ' j (Organized to bring assistance and cheer to senior citizens of Jackson county who are patients in nursing homes, the Friendly Visitors' Service 34 en of the newer civic projects in the county. The service group was formed by the health committee of the Rogue Valley Council on Aging, letters to churches and clubs brought volunteers. One group of volunteers from Medford Travel Study club assists patients at Medford "Nvrsirtg home, and shown here are four members holding a birthday party for Byron Fenters, who was 96 years old February 28. Pictured are o fof to right) Mrs. Thomas Reid, Mrs. Ray Glidewell, Mrs. Willis T. Fasel, Mr. Fenters and Mrs. Clay M. Lee, club president. Every one of the g residents is provided a birthday cake, and assisting with this project is Henry Johnson, Johnson's Bakery, who makes the cakes at half price. 3 Gifts of clothing and other necessities are also supplied by the club women. Patients in the nursing homes enjoy being taken for automobile rides around the valley, nd one woman who provides this service is Mrs. Henry Moyer. Mrs. Moyer is shown here vith Pearl Snow, a patient at the Mitchell Sanitarium in Jacksonville. The Moyers have a kargje station wagon and when buying the car, Mr. Moyer kept in mind the needs of the eWerly friends who are taken for rides in it at least once sach week. ' ' 1 " " ' Even the young help the Friendly Visitors. Sherry Ann Hamilton, Girl Scout of Troop 60, Jackson-school, goes to the Rowell Nursing home once a week to play a little electric organ for the pleasure of patients. Tracy at Mitchell Scsnitsrivm. - Mrs. William H. Schwan (above) visits Milledge Convalescent home once a week to take magazines anH other reading material. She reads to patients, and otherwise assists them. Pictured with Mrs. Schwan are (left to right) Mrs. Nellie Day, Mrs. Bertha Greenwald and Mrs. Mable Brumble, all of whom are past 90 years of age. Mrs. Schwan performs her service for the Friendly Visitors as a representative of First Methodist church. Another service is that of walking with elderly patients who enjoy being out of doors but cannot go alone.
