Karen Warner, James Wolfe Reign Over Annual Banquet Miss Karen Warner and James Wolfe were crowned queen and king of the Hi-N-Y at the annual banquet Thurs day evening of the high school youth of First Church of the Nazarene. Crowning Queen Karen was Janet Bohl, past queen. Ron Warner, 1959 king and president of the Hi-N-Y, crowned King James. The queen is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Warner, 796 Ellen avenue. Mrs. Helen Wolfe, Eagle Point, is the mother of the king. Attendants were Jerry An derson, Calvin Dean, Hazel Rawlings, and Mary Stiehl. More than 50 Nazarene youth attended the annual event. The king and queen selection is made by Hi-N-Y members during the two months prior to the banquet. Girls who attend the Sunday evening meetings vote for their selection as king and the boys for the queen. The votes are then tallied for the eight week period. Pink and white streamers decorated the hall for the banquet and pink cheesecloth draperies on white formed the background for the crown ing ceremonies. Silver hearts sprayed with pink snow hung from the ceiling and manzan ita bushes sprayed pink and white pampas grass contrib uted by A. C. Carter, Jack sonville, decorated the activ ities building. , Hearts at each place at the tables were the menus and programs. ' Following the banquet pre pared by Mrs. Fred Warner and her committee, a pro gram was held. Mrs. Rex Goble sang a solo to the queen and king during the crown ing accompanied by Miss Marilyn Sheperd. Mrs. Harold M. Sanner played two piano selections and the program also included several vocal ensembles and readings. Elected Portland-Serving as an of ficer of Delta Phi Gamma sor ority, one of three Lewis and Clark college campus organ izations, this spring will be Miss Melva Gebhard, Med ford. TVIiss Gebhard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Geb hard, 1519 North Riverside avenue, will be installed re cording secretary of the group. She is a junior and majors in history. Book Club Mrs. Ralph Barnes will give the program for a meeting of Contemporary Book club Wednesday, February 17. It will be held at 1:30 pjn. at the home of Mrs. A. N. The convention will be Thursday, March 24, in the First Methodist church, Laur el and Main street, Medio rd. Mrs. Carl W. Peterson, First District president, pre sided. M r s. Gertrude Bartlett, state historian and District chairman of poetry, opened the meeting with a spiritual reading. Mrs. Clay M. Lee, Medford, state and district chairman for trade and aid, and president of Travel Study club, held the group in the flag salute. Mrs. . Peterson gave an address of welcome, and introduced three state officers: Mrs. John L. Holmes, Medford, state chairman of crime prevention and chair man of American home de partment for the district; Mrs. Bartlett, and Mrs; Lee. Parliamentary, rules that were made at the 1959 Feder ation convention in Roseburg were read. Mrs. Holmes told of a "Day in Court" for the clubs, which will take place March 8. This is nation wide in the Federa tion. The remainder of the morn ing session was spent making the convention plans. There will be a president's panel, with Mrs. Lee as mod erator, and an international panel, with Mrs. Stephen Sabo, Ashland, moderator. The morning session was ad journed, and a no-host lunch eon was served at a gay val entine table by Mrs. Hen drixson, Mrs. Foster and Mrs. Russell. Centering the table was an arrangement of jas min e and pussy willows. Hearts and pussy willows dec orated the room. J. Stephens, chairman of con servation of natural resourc es, and second vice-president, talked on conservation; Mrs. Ralph Chapin, chairman of public affairs, gave a com plete report on Indian affairs, and told of articles sent to the Indian children at Christ mas. Mrs. Peterson appointed Mrs. William H. White, past district president, Rogue, Riv er, Mrs. Boyd, Cave Junc tion, and Mrs. Marshall Cor nett, Klamath Falls, on the nominatmg committee. Elec tion of officers for District 1 will be held at the coming convention. Jayceettes Plan Show Eagle Point Mrs. Ralph Humphries was elected chair man of the annual style show and tea at a recent meeting of Eagle Point Jayceettes. Mrs. Humphries selected her committee and date of the show is set for April 8, at the Eagle Point Grange hall. Town and Country Dress shop will preview their new spring and Easter styles for the show. It was voted to honor the youngest grandmother present this year. Eagle Point Greeters com mittee reported the booklets should be ready and will be distributed as soon as possible. Mrs. Glenn Nelson was named chairman for the float to be entered in the Jackson County Pear Blossom festival again this year. Mrs. Harry Hanscom and Mrs. Harold ' Hanscom were hostesses for the meeting held at the Harry Hanscom resi dence on Stevens road. One guest was present. Mrs. Keith Krambeal will be hostess for a meeting Feb ruary 18 at her home on the Crater Lake highway at 8 p.m. ' Librarian to Review Book at Saturday Meet Miss Ruth Esther Hill, li brarian at Ashland Junior High school, will review the book, Kom-Pawi, by Taiwon Koh, a story of the military occupation of Korea, at the next meeting of Epsilon chap ter of Delta Kappa Gamma, international society for wom en teachers. Miss Florence Allen, South ern Oregon college, who is state music chairman of the organization, will direct sing ing of the songs to be featured at the state convention to be held in Corvallis in May. The meeting will be held at the Girls Community club, Saturday, February 20, at 2 p.m. Miss Marie Prescott, social chairman, will be assisted by Miss Vida Scripter, Miss Allen. Mrs. Iona Taylor, and Mrs. Maye Wells, all of Ash i laud. Recital Set For Today At Lusks Rogue Valley district, Ore gon Music Teachers associa tion, will present pupils in recital today at 3 o'clock at Lusk Piano house. World Prayer Day Program To Be Held in Zion Church Each year the annual World Day of Prayer program is prepared by women of a different nation, and this year's program has been ar ranged by the Women of Canada who are associated with the Inter-Church Coun cil of Canada. Women of the local Council of United Church Women, under the leadership of Mrs. William Ricken, have an nounced that this year's pro gram of worship is to be held in Zion Lutheran church Friday, March 4, will open at 12 o'clock with sandwich luncheon, and a meditation period will be observed about the tables. At 1:15 p.m. the formal program will be pre sented in the church sanctu ary with Mrs. H. C. Coovert as leader. Theme for the day is "La bourers Together With God." Mrs. Milton Snow will pre sent the Council projects in dramatized arrangement and Mrs. Charles Adamson is mu sic chairman for the day. Mrs. Lucille Schoppert will sing a solo number. Other program numbers are . being arranged by Mrs. Ricken. In recalling the history of the ' World Day of Prayer, members noted that this marks the 74 th day of its observance which began in 1887. P.'Va chon have returned to their home, Tottering-on-the-Rogue, after having spent the past several weeks with relatives in California. The couple "left in early December . and re turned home Thursday. The Vachons spent consid e r a b 1 e time with Mrs. Vachon's mother, Mrs. George M. Shelton, Santa Clara, and also visited other relatives in the Bay area. Blue Star Mothers To Sew Thursday Blue Star Mothers, chapter 2. will meet at the home of Mrs. Helen Watson, 617 Cath erine street, at 10 a.m. Thurs day, February 18, for sewing and a business session. A covered-dish luncheon will be served. Woman Leaves For Guatemala Mrs. I. E. Schuler left this morning for Portland to spend a brief time with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Walker Treece. Later Mrs. Schuler will fly to San Francisco and Wednesday she will sail for the Panama Ca nal Zone on the first part of a tour of the Central Ameri can countries. She plans to spend consid erable time in Guatemala City, where she will be joined by friends. Mrs. Schuler also plans to visit the Oaxaca area in Mexico before returning home. Mrs. Schuler was accompa nied north this morning by Mrs. Manley Treece, Port land, who flew south to re turn by car with the Medford woman. Mrs. Schuler's home on MAIL TRIBUNE, Medford, Or.
