New York - (UPD - The real trouble with the market has been that stocks recently have been "high" in relation to bonds, earnings and dividends - that prices have been expect ing too much too soon, says Lucein O. Hooper of W. E. Hutton & Co. In other words, Hooper notes, the level of stock prices, rather than any major change in the business out look, should be cited to. ex plain what has happened since Jan. 4. He adds, however, that the difficulty with such an ex planation, of course, is that the overvaluation has been most uneven. Advanced Fire School Next Week An advanced fire school will open Monday at the southwest district headquar ters of the state department of forestry. It will continue for five days. " Year - long and overhead personnel of the district will attend the classes along with 12 men from the Klamath Forest Protective association. Ron Smith, state training officer, will be in charge of the school. There also will be ' three teams of three men each from the Salem office. Last day of the school will in clude 10 hours of radiological monitoring. Carole Tregoff To Be Star in Finch Trial Next Week Los Angeles (UPD Carole Tregoff, the other woman and co-defendant in the Finch murder trial, will be hard pressed to match her lover's dramatic performance when she takes the stage next week. Dr. R. The firm, with offices at 44 North Front st., will be known as Edson and Pappas Architects. Pappas, who has operated his own practice at Pine Grove studio, Klamath Falls, since 1958, received his bach elor of architecture - degree : from Iowa state university. He and his wife have four! children. Edson established his own office in Medford in 1955. He a graduate of the Univer sity of California and worked with a number of firms before opening the present office. A third member of the staff is William B. Johnston, a bachelor of architecture, who attended the University of Oregon, Colorado college at Colorado Springs, and Fin land Institute of Technology, Helsinki. Projects currently un der way by the office include the new Jackson County Sav ings and Loan association building at Main and Front sts. . Accidental Discharge Of Gun Fatal To Man Yachats-flJPD- Howell Cobb Garrison, . 60, was fatally wounded Wednesday when his 12-gauge shotgun acciden tally discharged. Garrison, was an Oswego apartment owner and former mayor of Las Vegas, Nev. Traffic Convictions Increase in January Salem -UPD- Oregon courts reported 13,698 traffic viola tion convictions during Janu ary, an increase of about 600 over the same month in 1959. He said he was perhaps as concerned with her fate as his own. A high point came when he fixed his sincere blue eyes on the state's chief prosecutor and said: The Whole Truth "Mr. Wichello,. the only armament I have is to tell the whole truth. God willing, I will be free if I do tell the truth." Deputy District Attorney Fred N. Wichello had just cast aside the gentle manner which characterized his cross examination, and confronted the surgeon with a secret tape recording he claimed showed Finch had invented a tearful death scene with his wife. The trial was recessed for Lincoln's birthday until Mon day. Grant B. Cooper, Finch's attorney,, said he would have only about three more wit nesses to call when the trial resumes. Then it will be Miss Tre goff s turn. Her attorneys so far have declined to say whether she will testify in her own behalf. . . Finch's calm assertion that truth was his only weapon against conviction ana pos sible death in the gas cham ber ended seven gruelling days on the witness stand for him. Maintains His Innocence He appeared as unruffled, serene and self-possessed as the day he began telling about his varied love life which led to the death of his wife, Barbara Jean Finch. Despite glaring contradic tions between his testimony and statements he made to po lice after his arrest concern ing his wife's death, Finch maintained his complete in nocence not self defense or any degree of responsibility in his wife's death. She was shot accidently as he struggled with her on the lawn of their West Covina home, he claimed. The gun went off accidentally as he tried to throw it away. That was the substance of Finch's testimony which came to a breath-taking climax Thursday. She's Emancipated Mrs. Robbins, 41, feceived a full pardon Thursday from Gov. William Stratton of Illi nois for a larceny conviction and for leaving the state il legally with her new husband, Franklin, 18 years ago. She thinks it is symbolic that her emancipation from fear and guilt should have its first full day on Lincoln's birthday. "Lincoln freed the slaves," she told United Press Interna tional. "I was a slave to my own conscience. If I had to do it again, I wouldn't. The men tal agony and torture you put yourself to is a horrible thing. v Just as Mrs. Robbin's ex posure as a parole violator last week found her family and friends united in her be half, so did the news of her pardon. Finally-A Telegram She first learned of Strat ton's action when told by UPI. She called her husband. As he had done when he first learned she was in trouble, he hurried home. Later, a telegram arrived. They read it and re-read it and showed it to their four children when they came home from school. Friends who had heard the news stopped by to visit, and also read the telegram. An "ice cream and cake" celebration for the family was put off until late in the even ing. The children were al lowed to stay up extra-late Lane Sheriff Quits Race for Congress Eugene-ICPB-Sheriff Ed El der of Lane county Thursday withdrew his candidacy for the Republican nomination for Congress from the fourth district. Elder said the entry into the race of State Sen, Edwin Durno (R-Medford) and his duties as sheriff were the rea sons for his withdrawing. The seat is .now held by Rep. Charles O. Porter, Dem ocrat Elder said "upon examining his (Durno's) qualifications and accomplishments, I feel he would be an able and re spected representative' from Oregon on the national scene." - -Durno, a physician, recent ly announced his candidacy. because of today's school holiday; The neighborhood children dropped by and gradually, as Franklyn Robbins put it, "things began to quiet down and we began to be what we most want, a normal family Fire Truck Can't Make Fire Calls Bloomf ield, Mich. -(UPD -A brand new fire truck belong ing to this suburban Detroit community can't get to any fires in town right away " The new truck was snow bound 50 miles south of Mil waukee on its maiden trip from the factory to the Bloomfield Township fire sta tion. Fire Marshal Volly Yan uszeke . went to Wisconsin Wednesday to take delivery on the new truck. He called to say he was holed up in Clintonville, Wis., because the road was covered with nine-foot snowj drifts.
