Mark's Episcopal church Sun ,r day at 7:30 p.m. The production will be di ;' rected by Mrs. Scott Hamil I ton, assisted by Mrs. Walter Jensen, Mrs. C. E. Chamber- lain, Scott Hamilton, and the church school staff. I Children of the church . school will make up the cast for the production, which will : be narrated by Douglas Kliev- er. Accompanying music will , be provided by St. Mark's ' Choristers, directed by Mrs. - Ann Wirkkula. Miss Julie - Yoakley will serve as organ , ist. The pageant will relate in ' symbolism .the prophecies which foretold the coming of the Messiah of God, and will n ' go on to unfold the story of the Nativity, and the visit of the Magi, concluding with the spread of the gospel and the : Light of the World. Candles lighted from the al-l- tar will be distributed to wor shippers as they leave the church, symbolic of the obli gation of the Christians to -- spread the 'light" to the ends of the earth. Lord's Supper Set For Church Sunday The Lord's Supper will be celebrated on the first Sun day of the New Year at the Congregational church, near the corner of Groveland ave. and Oakwood dr. The sermon by the Rev. Thomas McCamant will be on -What We Receive and What We Give." The worship hour is at 10 a.m., with the church school meeting at the same time. Visitors are welcome at the communion, as at all serv ices of the church. The Pilgrim Fellowship will meet Sunday at 7 p.m. Plans are being made for a snow party. The date of the annual meeting of the con gation is Jan. 11. Dr. D. Kirkland West will speak on, "Commandments, New and Old." Mrs. George Pearson will sing at both services. Westminster choir will sing, "Youth at Work" for the early service with the chancel choir singing for the 11 a.m. service. Junior High Fellowship meets at the church at 5 p.m. Sunday for a meeting entitled, "God Speaks!" and Westmin ster Fellowship will meet at 7 p.m. for a discussion on, "Can You Test Your Chris tianity?" Geneva Fellow- Eastwood Baptist Tells Activities Sunday at Eastwood Bap tist church at 9:30 a.m. Bill Robertson will continue his series of lessons on the New Testament entitled, "Faith fully Yours, Paul." At the 10:45 a.m. worship service, the Rev. Clifford Young, pastor, will speak on "A Living Sacrifice." Holy communion will be observed. The Baptist Youth Fellow ship will meet at 6 p.m. The theme will be: "Dishonesty the Quiz Shows." At the 7:30 p.m. service, the pastor will speak on the theme, "On Being Set Apart." Jan. 4-8 the church will have a series of cottage prayer meetings. In addition, on Jan. 4, the monthly teachers' con ference will be held; Jan. 5 the Diaconate will meet to perfect its program of visita tion, and Jan. 6 the chancel choir will rehearse after the midweek service. The annual meeting will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 13, at 7:30 p.m. St. Luke's Tells Coming Events The Sacrament of holy communion will be adminis tered during the 11 a.m. wor ship service at the St. Luke's Methodist church. The pastor, the Rev. Melvin Dixon, will give the commu nion meditation on the theme: "This Is the New Covenant!" Supervised nursery is conduct ed for pre-school children. Church school begins at 9:45 a.m. with classes for all ages. The Methodist Youth Fellowship meets at 7 at the church. Bible study, conduct ed by the pastor, is held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. The choir will meet for rehearsal Thursday at 7:30 p.m. St. Luke's is located at 2940 Siskiyou blvd., across the street from the Hoover Ele mentary school. The public is invited to the services. Topics Sunday on New Year's Theme The Rev. Harold M. Sanner, pastor of First Church of the Nazarene will speak Sunday on the New Year. At the 11 a.m. service his topic will be "A Christian Look at the Cal endar" and in the 7 p.m. serv ice "The Writing on the New Page." Jan. 10 at 7 p.m., there will be a presentation by laymen of the church on the subject of stewardship. These will be in the nature of testimonials concerning success they have had in planned giving to the church. NEW AGE CHURCH "Understanding, The Key to Happiness and Success" will be the subject of a lec ture at 2:30 p.m. Sunday by Dr. Dell E. Millard, at the New Age church, north of Eagle Point, on Hammel rd. Preceding the lecture -there will be a fellowship dinner at 1 p.m. and a musical half-hour at 2 p.m. The public is in vited. SERMON SUBJECT "God" will be the sermon subject Sunday at First Church of Christ, Scientist, 100 Windsor ave. The service is held at 11 ajn. and all are welcome to attend. Religious Publicity Coundl ship meets each Friday at 6:30 a.m. for breakfast and Bible study at the home the Rev. and Mrs. G. R. Jacks, 649 J st. Jan. 7 the Presbyterian Men's club will meet at noon to install the new officers. Elected were Sam Harbison, president; Fred Gatter, vice president; and Fred Fry, sec retary - treasurer. This will mark the ninth year of the operation of the Presbyterian Men's club in Medford. Westminster The sacrament of the Lord's Supper will be administered Sunday at the 11 a.m. worship service of the Westminster Presbyterian church. The sermon for the com munion meditation and the opening of the year will be preached by the Rev. John O. Reynolds, and will be entitled "Good News for 1960." During the service there will be a public reception of the new members who have joined the church since the close of the charter member ship last June. Miss Mira Frohnamayer will sing "The Twenty-Third Psalm." Church school cla&ses for all ages from nursery through adult are held at the church each Sunday at 9:45 a.m. New pupils may enroll in their class. Central Church Starts Quarter The Central Church of Christ, 608 North Central ave., will meet for worship at 11 a.m. Sunday. . The minister, John V. Heberling, will ad dress the congregation on the subject, "Shepherding the Church." The Bible school will begin a new quarter at Sunday's 9:45 a.m. session. Teachers for all age groups will introduce the new materials that will be studied for the next 13 weeks. Adult and youth classes will study the lesson "Launch ing Out On a World Mission" from Acts 13. The 6:30 p.m. youth meet ing will again be devoted to the panel discussion of stand ards for teen-agers. The same adults will make up the panel and will continue answering the questions prepared by the young people. Adult visitors are welcome to attend. The congregation will gath er again for worship at 7:30 p.m. The evening message by the minister will be entitled "Brotherhood: Good, Better and Best." New Sabbath School Oiiicials Announced Sabbath school services will open r.t 9:30 a.m. Satur day in the Medford Seventh day Adventist church under the leadership of the newly elected officers for 1960. Dwight Pflugrad has been ap pointed general superinten dent for the new year, assist ed by Dr. Harvard Bresee and Mrs. Eli Davis. Secretaries will be Mrs. Forrest Bigger, Mrs. Ruby Rusque, Mrs. Mer lin Dewey and Mrs. Robert Jolliffe. Heading the children's de partments of the Sabbath school will be Ersel Hallsted, juniors; Mrs. Dwight Pflu grad, primary; Mrs. Almon Archer, kindergarten, and Mrs. Clarence Hayward, cra dle roll. The plan of Salvation has been selected for study in the senior division. Eisenhower Spends Quiet Holiday Augusta, Ga. -dTD- Presi dent Eisenhower spent a quiet New Year holiday today at his vacation retreat here rest ing before the 1960 session of Congress. The President and Mrs. Ei senhower greeted the arrival of the New Year and the new decade early today at a pri vate party with friends in the clubhouse at the Augusta Na tional Gold club. The Eisenhowers are ex pected to return to Washing ton during the week end or early next week to be back in the White House before Congress reconvenes next Wednesday. IDA HAS CORONARY ' Hollywood-flJPD-Ida Cantor, wife of veteran comedian Ed die Cantor, is undergoing treatment today for a coro nary attack at Cedars of Leb anon hospital. Mrs. Cantor was admitted for treatment Wednesday. Gold Hill Churches Announce Events For Coming Week Gold Hill - "Our First Con cern" will be the subject for the sermon by the Rev. O. L. Kendal, pastor of the Gold Hill Community Methodist church Sunday at 11 a.m. The church choir will sing "Through The Love of God Our Saviour" directed by Mrs. C. Norman Gail, choir director. Mrs. John Bruce will be organist. The Intermediate Metho dist Youth Fellowship group will meet at the church at 5:30 p.m. Sunday directed by Mrs. Kermit Bickle, leader of the group. The Senior Metho dist Youth Fellowship will meet at the church at 6:30 p.m. with Mr. and Mrs. Ed ward Griggs, leaders, in charge and the evening wor ship service will be held Sun day at 7:30. Ferd Jones will be in charge of the lesson which will be from Hebrews. Gold Hill - "Briefing For Operation Rookie" will be the title of the sermon by Miss Jean Cunningham, minister of the Gold Hill Christian church Sunday at 11 a.m. Youth Sunday will be ob served during the worship service. A choir made up of girls from the junior class through high school inclusive will sing. The young people will have charge of the Scrip ture reading as well. Mrs. Joe Kavaleski will be pianist. Sunday school will meet at 9:45 a.m. A potluck supper is plan ned Sunday at 6:30 p.m. at the church honoring Joe Al len and Johnny Andrews, who plan to leave about Jan. 7 for induction into the Unit ed States Navy. All friends of the two young men are in vited to attend, officials of the church said. After the supper a party for the young people will be given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Allen. Two Churches Tell Sunday Activities Ashland "And Afterward -Memory" will be the Sunday sermon subject at both the 9:45 and 11 a.m. worship serv ices at First Presbyterian church, North Main and Hel man sts. The Rev. B. J. Holland, minister, will speak. Jacksonville - Saturday at 6:30 p.m. the First Presbyteri an church Night Fellowship will hold its potluck dinner. Officers will be elected for the new year, and a film shown. Topic for the, communion Sunday by the Rev. King K. Jones will be "Broken Reso lutions and Renewed Efforts." The choir will sing "Go Forth Strong Word of God." That evening the Jackson ville Westminster Fellowship will meet for its fireside in the home of Tim White. Mr. King will speak on the topic "A Steady Diet." The Junior High Fellowship will meet at 7 p.m. Monday in the home of Alice Peterson. Betty Davis and Kathy Mitch ell will present the program. At 7:30 p.m. Wednesday the Cub Scout Pack will meet in the church. First Methodists To Hold Communion Holy communion will be served at the 9:30 and 11 a.m. services . S u n d a y at First Methodist church with Dr. George Roseberry preaching the communion meditation, "The Cup of The Lord." . The communion will be served in the homes of all who are ill and not able to attend the services, if they will contact the church office. The youth choir under the direction of Ray Lewis will sing "Spirit of God Descend Upon My Heart" for the 9:30 a.m. service. Mrs. Charles An derson will direct the adult choir in singing the anthem, "Jacobs Ladder" for the 11 a.m. service. The commission on Chris tian social relations will meet Monday at the O. P. Taylor home. The commission on education will meet on Tues day at 7:45 p.m. at the church. GERTRUDE SHOEMAKER Sunday Speaker Butte Falls Church Youths Hold Number of Events Butte Falls-Young people of the Butte Falls Community Bible church have been active the past two weeks. They pre sented a short play, "Crowd ing Christ Out of Christmas," for the evening service on Dec. 20. Mrs. Harry Dalton was director. Christmas Eve they were part of a large group caroling the many homes in the com munity. Monday night they were among other church groups invited by the Central Point Community church to a skating party at the Ashland rink. Thursday evening the same group sponsored a watch night party at the local church. Guest speakers in the Butte Falls church recently were the Rev. Phares Huggins of the World Missions to Chil dren, who is on furlough from Japan; and the Rev. Donald Collins who is planning to go to Africa in March. - Word has. been received from the Rev. Donald Mac Dougall that he and his fam ily are now in Burns, Wyo., where Mr. Mac Dougall is pas tor of the First Presbyterian church. Village Light circle held their last meeting at the home of . Mrs. Harry Dalton. They prepared two boxes of used clothing for orphanage chil dren. Mrs. James Irwin lead the devotional period. Piper, minister of the church, will go to Eugene this week to attend a meeting of the board of trus tees of Northwest Christian college. Baptist Pastor On Survey Trip "That Shocking Demand of Christ" will be the sermon subject of the Rev. Kenneth Raymond Sunday at the 11 a.m. worship hour at First Baptist church. The Rev. Mr. Raymond, who serves as choir director and a Bible teacher at the church, will speak in the absence of the pastor, the Rev. James Neely. Pastor Neely is on a survey trip of missionary stations of the Conservative Baptist Home Mission Society in Cen tral America. He will stop at various points in Cuba, Haiti, Honduras, Panama and Mex ico. During the second week of January the board of the mission, of which he is a member, will meet in Mexico City. The local pastor will return to the pulpit of his church Jan. 17. The Sunday service at 7:45 p.m. will have Kenton Adams, pastor of the Forest Acres Community church, as speak er. WITNESS TOPICS "How to Guard Your Chil dren From Delinquency" will be the title of the public talk scheduled Sunday at 6 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Je hovah's Witnesses, 2402 Jack sonville highway.
