IT, 1959 J Feeding the Family By ZOLA VINCENT Feed Editor Eggaog Means Hospitality For the Entire Family Time was, in merrie olde Englend, when eggnog was served before breakfast and again before dinner on Christ mas day. Now, it is served at any hour throughout the holi day season. Many maintain "open house" all day long on both Christmas and New Year's Day with relays of ladlers presiding at the egg nog bowl. A cut glass or silver punch bowl is very handsome but eggnog tastes just as good from your very biggest mix ing bowl, appropriately dec orated. Or perhaps yau have a prized soup tureen? Now is a good time to show it off. Otherwise, a pitcher for pour ing is perfect When it comes to glasses, nunrh glasses are readily available both at Tiffany's and at the Ten Cent btore. And if the children are many, gay holiday-patterned paper cups have obvious virtues. The thing is to have fun. Dairy Eggnog Smooth, rich and creamy quart containers irom nuin man or dairy section of gro cery stores; a skilled blending '. of Quality ingredients ready for serving "as is" or for add- 'ing spirits. SimpU Accompaniments Eggnog is rich and flavor packed. The usual canapes are definitely out, so resist temp tation. Amonj wines, sherry is the flavored mixer. Eggnog Toppings A sprinkling of freshly ground or freshly ground nut meg is traditional topper though some like a fleck of cinnamon or mace. This may be hostess-sprinkled or she may have shaker or" grater handy for guests to top to taste. Glamour topping is achieved by sieving pulp of fresh pomegranate to extract the juice. Float a spoonful of juice on each drink and spend exDlainins. Pork Chops Are . Pork chop cuts are rib, cen ter cut, blade bone and round bone; should be at least one third inch thick. One-inch chops require longer cooking but make a finer service. For each four servings, rub thick pork chops well on both sildes with a blend of two ta blespoons Worcestershire sauce, half teaspoon prepared mustard and half teaspoon salt. Brown slowly in one ta blespoon fat in skillet, about 15 minutes. Combine 1 cup soft prunes, one-quarter cin namon, four whole cloves, two teaspoons vinegar or lem on juice, one-half cup water and two tablespoons sugar; simmer 10 minutes. Pour over pork chops; cover and sim mer 40 minutes or until chops are fork-tender. Now here Is good solid eat ing for hungry people. Stir up a corn bread mix and make everybody happy. For each four servings, place three pounds pork spare ribs in large, flat pan. Top with one tablesoon lemon juice, salt and slices of one medium onion. Bake uncov ered at 450 degrees for 30 minutes. Cover ribs with one can (1 lb. 11 oz.) sauerkraut. Combine one-quarter cup wa ter and two tablespoons sugar and add; Cover, bake at 350 degrees, 1V4 hours. Everybody Likes Pizza A generous pizza makes good eating; can be put to gether fast; will please every one. Prepare one recipe of pie crust or hot roll mix as dir ected on package; roll out thin. Line cookie sheet or other square or oblong pan with Dastrv: brush with salad oil. Spread No. 2 can tomatoes over dough; top witn ancnovy fillets, salt, thin slices Moz? Tai-oiio cheese using three- quarters -pound cheese. Sprin kle with DeoDer ana one-nan teaspoon oregano. Bake in hot oven, 400 degrees about 20 minutes. Six generous serv ings.
