! f Bookings Scheduled For Actor Philip Hanson, well known Oregon Shakespearean Festi val actor, will re-enact many of his more exciting roles and scenes during the next several weeks at schools and colleges in the northwest. Hanson's one-man show, "Kings and Clowns." is spon sored by. Vox Poetica, well known concert producing as sociation. Throughout the fall and winter be will be seen at the schools. Monday he will appear at Grant high school In Portland. Next Tuesday he will ap pear before students at Lewis and Clark college and the Uni versity of Portland, and will return to Portland in January for another performance at the university. ' Thursday, November 12, he will present a two-hour show at Washington State univer sity, Pullman. On November 13 a show is scheduled at the University of Idaho in Mos cow. He will appear at North Central high school in Spo kane and at other schools in that area about November 16. The actor is a veteran of many seasons in Ashland and at San Diego's National Shakespearean festival. Be fore his return to Ashland last summer he was special services director for two years with the U. S. Army in France. Forty widely varied roles have caused him to be billed as "the man . of many parts Malvolio, King John, Hotspur, Dogberry, Richard II, Hamlet, Macbeth and Bottom are only a few of the famous Shake spearean characters portrayed by Hanson. At season's end this summer at Ashland, Vox Poetica spon sored an audition for his one man show, at which the spe cial audience of fellow actors and festival fans gave an en thusiastic ovation. Vox Poetica is noted for its presentation of live perform ances -featuring the spoken word by accomplished thes- pians. Medical Auxiliary Changes Meeting Woman's Auxiliary to the Jackson County Medical soci ety will meet November 18 instead of November 11 as previously scheduled. Mrs. Myrtle Boatman received a special award and Mrs. Otto M. Brawen and Mrs. Charles Swenson won bridge prizes. Pinochle prizes went to Mrs. Wes Fo'rler and Mrs. Mable E. Wright. Pictured (left to right) are Mrs. Harold Weed, Rogue River; Mrs. New Red Cross Recruits Attend Orientation Event Approximately 65 volun teer service chairmen and new volunteers attended the annual Red Cross orientation luncheon, Tuesday, November 3 at' the Red Cross build ing. Manville Heisel, chapter chairman, welcomed the guests and introduced the other men presently. They were Jennings Pierce, public relations chairman: Robert Heffernan, county fund drive chairman; and LeRoy Wil liams, firt aid chairman. Mr. Heffernan stated that the annual fund campaign to be conducted in county areas not covered by the United Fund campaign would be held in March. Mr. Williams announced the first aid classes being held this winter and said that "everyone should have a first aid card." He praised the Medford public school system for its rule that stu dents must have a first aid card in order to be gradu ated. Mr. Williams stated that teaching of first aid not only provides knowledge about what to do when an accident has happened, but actually goes far to prevent accidents. Mrs. Frank Fairweather, Red Cross regional field con sultant, explained briefly the history of Red Cross and its organization from the nation al level down to the local leveL She stressed the fact that Red Cross by Congres sional Charter is a service or ganization with definite re sponsibilities and should not be thought of as a public wel fare organization. Mrs. E. A. Littrell, recruit ment chairman, introduced in turn the chairman of each service who gave a short ex- CARE Projecf Planned by Club Travel Study club of the Oregon Federation of Wom en's clubs is joining the Ore gon Federation in heading another campaign in "CARE" for Greece. When Mrs. Walter Brown, Klamath Falls, president' of the Oregon Federation, chose Greece as the beneficiary of her "CARE" , project, she chose an area of truly great need, it is said. To help support this proj ect, Travel Study club will hold a silver tea, Tuesday, No vember 17, from 2 i to 4:30 pjn. in- the Girl's Community club. There will be speakers during the afternoon, some who have come rom Greece to live here. Men and women are both invited to attend. - Greece is one of the poor est coun fries in Europe, the club points out. Food rations for some residents is so small that it may consist of not more than one onion in a day. Miss Obenshain Honored Guest At Recent Party Central Point-Miss Earline Obenshain was honored Mon day mgnt witn a surprise shower. Miss Obenshain, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Obenshain, Central Point, is the bride-elect of Wayne Wy- att, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Wyatt of Table Rock. The shower was held at the home of Mrs. Larry Starks, and hostesses were Mrs. Lelan Starks and Mrs. Lillie La- Casse. Mrs. Starks decorated her home for the occasion in the Thanksgiving motif. Fig urines of Pilgrims, turkeys and harvest symbols were combined with chrysanthe mums in autumn shades. A" bridal scene had been ar ranged on a coffee table.
