Tru Sees (Continued from Pag 1) Despite the experience and i rebuff s we have had in our fpast efforts to get the Soviet Union to cooperate, our peo ple would give united support ;to the President in dealing 'with any constructive propo 1 Mis by Moscow. 'i-. I T ctill An nn iitV if arlvie. table for the President to go to : Moscow., Long before the .Vice President went there, I .'favored and suggested that Khrushchev be invited to this ' country. I did this because I believed he . ought to learn first-hand from the President .in the White House where we i-itood, as a united people, on 1 the issues which divide us jfrom the Kremlin.' I thought r it was about time that the head f of the Soviet Union should call t on the President here, since f. three Presidents had traveled overseas to meet with the lead ';. ers of the Soviet Union. ' 'j Deeper Implication I - But there is a deeper impli ' cation to consider in the Pres ' ident's visit to Moscow. Lest we forget, we are dealing with ruthless dictatorship which has imposed its will over mil lions of people." Need we be reminded again of the fate of the people of Poland and Hun gary, Rumania and Bulgaria, where Stalin had agreed with Churchill and Attlee and me to noia iree eiecuonsr mere ; are other Communist-subjugat-' ed peoples in Europe and else where. What about these peo ple? Until Khrushchev shows - some kind of good faith in re pudiating Stalinism by living .-: up to the agreements made -. 1 L tT t. j, T1AJ wun us ai xaua ana x-oisaam, I would hope that a President ef the United States would not lend himself and the prestige of his office to the appear ance of supporting the Krem lin policy by going personally to Moscow. I think it was all right for the Vice President to go, and I think there should be no hes itency in sending any other high-ranking representative of the President to keep discus sions and negotiations going, in concert with our allies. As long as we are alert, the longer we talk, the better our chances will' be of avoiding a third world war. And the longer we talk, the better the chances are of not rushing into ill-considered compromises or sacrificing the rights of other people. Tim With Free People Time is on our side if we know what we are doing and where we are going. Time is always on the side of free peo ple. No government of the United States has ever refused or will ever refuse to discuss the issues confronting the world with any power, large or small. We believe in justice and freedom and a good life for everyone and no interfer ence in the internal affairs of anyone. We do not seek to im pose our way of life or system of government on any nation, and Russia is welcome to her communism. We fear no competition from her politically, industrially or economically. But we will resist all at tempts at subversion, direct or indirect. Whatever claims Chairman Khrushchev made to his American . audiences about people choosing commu nism and having political freedom to do so, the undeni- for m able fact remains that no na tion has ever adopted commu nism voluntarily. And no Communist - imposed govern ment has ever dared to face a free election where the peo ple had a fair choice of gov ernment. Hopes Talks Useful I hope that the private talks between President Eisenhower and Chairman Khrushchev at Camp David were useful. Time will tell. On the surface, some of our people seem to have impressed Khrushchev, and Khrushchev seems to Theyll Do It Every Time have impressed some of our people. , , , It is interesting to note that Khrushchev seeme'd to be more comfortable with out big businessmen and our finan ciers than he was with our top leaders. Many of our labor leaders , have been to Russia and were unjustly accused by some of our big businessmen of being soft on communism. But it turns out thatt most of these labor leaders saw enough for themselves to. re alize that Russian communism was nd good for free labor, either economically or politi cally...... Khrushchev has Droved him- j self to be a very expert propa gandist and dynamic advocate of his ideology. But his arro gant nonsense, when referring to this country as a pure cap italist society, in that Marxian jargon of his, taay confuse for a time some of the under-developed countries of the world. But it really should fool no one. As a matter of fact, Russia is the capitalist nation -with a small, all-powerful clique in control of all the W-IEN YOU APPl FOR A JOB BUSINESS IS ALWAYS AT ITS LOWEST EBBID HEAR THE BOSS TELL IT i'm- sonsy, mac-1 vourtv is Isi&. The Communists say the people own everything - but in real ity they own nothing and live under state capitalism with no competition, and no account ing from their bosses: Ours is, in all essential re spects, a free competitive en terprise society, the . basis of which is the freedom and the supremacy of the individual Chairman Khrushchev made the most of his opportunities and access to our radio, tele vision and press to expound his Communist views, to the American people.
