Neuberger (D-Ore.), after praising President Eisenhow er off and on in Central Ore gon speeches the last two days, said Wednesday night that the Administration's budget policies hurt Oregon. Neuberger told a public meeting at Tumalo, six miles north of here, that he favored a balanced budget but "not an inadequate budget." The senator said that more than 60 per cent of total fed eral spending goes directly to defense but that Oregon has only "three small military installations." Dams Mentioned lie said that according to 1958 statistics Washington state had $1.2 billion in mili tary prime contracts while Oregon has $27.9 million. Neuberger declared that Republican efforts to "phase out" the federal water pollu tion control program also would injure Oregon. The Ad- ministraton, he said, has ad verse- amtuaes lowara me building of Green Peter dam, John Day, Cougar and Hills Creek dams, . deepening the Columbia river, dredging Gold Beach harbor and other projects. "A budget which starves housing, forests and dams is a poor budget for Oregon," he said. ' Baseball Argument Ends in Stabbing New York-flJPD - An argu ment between two long-time friends over the recent Dodger-Braves baseball playoff series ended with a fatal stab bing Wednesday night. Police said the argument broke out between William R. Prinz, 48, and Dennis Mc Sweeny, 39, in Prinz's apart ment, where McSweeny lived with Prinz and his wife. Prinz heatedly order Mc Sweeny, a friend for 11 years, to leave. When McSweeny re fused, police said, Prinz grab bed an eight-inch kitchen knife and plunged it into Mc Sweeny's chest. Asked by po lice about the argument, Prinz said: "I don't even remember what side I took." He was booked on a homi cide charge. Veteran Actor Dies at Age 81 Hollywood Veteran stage and screen actor Taylor Holmes died, Wednesday night at his home here. He was 81. One of the most famous matinee idols in the early 1900s, Holmes appeared in such motion pictures as "Great Expectations," "An American Tragedy," "The Kiss of Death," "Dinner at Eight," "Nana" and "The Re turn of Sherlock Holmes." His stage successes includ ed "Marriage a la Carte," "The Third Party," "The Great Necker," "The Sap," "Big Hearted Herbert," "To bacco Road," and "I'd Rath er be Right." ' The actor ; lived with his daughter, actress Madeleine Holmes.
