Oregon Said Hurt
By Budget Policy
Of Administration
Bend -im- Sen. Richard L.
Neuberger (D-Ore.), after
praising President Eisenhow
er off and on in Central Ore
gon speeches the last two
days, said Wednesday night
that the Administration's
budget policies hurt Oregon.
Neuberger told a public
meeting at Tumalo, six miles
north of here, that he favored
a balanced budget but "not an
inadequate budget."
The senator said that more
than 60 per cent of total fed
eral spending goes directly to
defense but that Oregon has
only "three small military
installations."
Dams Mentioned
lie said that according to
1958 statistics Washington
state had $1.2 billion in mili
tary prime contracts while
Oregon has $27.9 million.
Neuberger declared that
Republican efforts to "phase
out" the federal water pollu
tion control program also
would injure Oregon. The Ad-
ministraton, he said, has ad
verse- amtuaes lowara me
building of Green Peter dam,
John Day, Cougar and Hills
Creek dams, . deepening the
Columbia river, dredging
Gold Beach harbor and other
projects.
"A budget which starves
housing, forests and dams is a
poor budget for Oregon," he
said.

17, released from Lithuania.
"You'll get your children,"
Khrushchev promised and told
Soviet Foreign Minister An

the matter.
The American Consular offi

only one day in Moscow after
returning from the United
States before going on to Pei

matters are usually a lengthy
process and likely to take at
least weeks, if not months. '
