'Health Fair' Set At Kiwanis Event A popular feature of the Kiwanis County Fair. Aug 20-23, at the Medford Armory, will be the "Health Fair" which is being planned in co- ... when a food hopper's "paradise" I will be opened . to you operation with all of the health education organizations in Jackson county. Participating organizations include American Cancer So ciety, American Heart associa tion, AA, Child Guidance Clinic, Mental Health commit tee, National Foundation, and Jackson County Tuberculosis and Health association. Grace Reimer, executive secretary of Jackson county unit of the American Cancer Society, and Helen Tweedy, Jackson County Public Health association, are cochairmen of the exhibit. The displays will be set up in the large classroom to the left of the lobby of the Arm ory. Films furnished by the participating groups will be shown at regular intervals during the course of the four day event. Fair hours are 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, Aug. 20-21, noon to 11 p.m. on Saturday, and noon to 10 p.m. Sunday, according to fair officials. Watch for it! He was one Two Area FFA Boys Take Top Spots in District Contest Two members of local FFA chapters took the top two rankings in the Rogue - Ump- qua district better farming contest ended recently. Art Gardener, Eagle Point, ranked first, and. Leon Small, Phoenix, second. Ten chap ters participated. The FFA members were judged on how well each pre pared for farming judged by an interviewing team of Ralph Morgan, state super visor of vocational agriculture education, Bill McKinney, North Salem High school vo ag teacher and Jim Ross, state FFA treasurer. BOATING MOST POPULAR New York (UPD - The leader among all "take part" recrea tion activities for Americans is pleasure boating, according to Sales Finance News. Not only does boating claim the most people participating some 35 million but it also claims the most total dollars spent, more than $2 billion a year, the publication said. The boys were also, check ed on how much they had done toward developing their own projects and were ques tioned on their knowledge of such general subjects as use of fertilizers, animal nutri tion, and many other agricul tural subjects. Gardener owns 28 head of Angus including cows, heifers and calves. This project was developed during the four years he has been in vocation al agriculture. . He started with one head of Angus when a freshman. He used money from summer work to help build up his herd. His project shows signs of hard work and good management. Gardener will attend Oregon State col lege this year where he will study agricultural chemistry. Leon Small raises nine head of registered Hereford beef animals for breeding stock. He raises his herd on 53 acres of dry land and 15 acres of irrigated land. He will show eight or nine registered beef ASK ANY Kl WAN IAN ...
