We have had relations, but I am sorry about it and have refused to go on that way with him. J- in threatening to go over the girl's head to reveal the con fidences given to her. It would be far better for Carol to suggest that Lucy go to some other older qualified person if she has reason to be afraid of her parents. There is no doubt that Lucy needs the help of an understanding older person and in some cases a doctor or clergyman can fill the bill better than parents. Adolescents, how ever, are often mistaken about their parents' ability to face such problems. Unfortunately, Carol is too young and confused herself to know what to do in such a case. She doesn't realize that a hasty, foolish marriage is no solution to past errors, nor is it a guarantee of future good conduct. On the other hand, there is no reason for Lucy to "become wild" simply be cause she remains unmarried until she matures. Lucy should realize that the future is in her own hands. She has lost certain very fine possibilities because of her mistake, but she certainly hasn't closed the door on hapoiness and a decent life. She should not feel pressured into marrying Tom simply be cause she. thinks there is no other way out of .her problem. (COPYRIGHT 1959. GEN ERAL FEATURES CORP.) lo). It was recently reported that last year more than 400 books were published in the field of fine arts-a record number. This figure was 100 more than the total 10 years ago. Many of these expensive and beauti fully illustrated volumes, both 1958-59 imprints and the pub lications of earlier years, are available at the Medford Pub lic library, according to Mrs. Jane R. Baker, Jackson county librarian. The history of art from the beginnings of man to the pres ent day is covered in a num ber of new volumes. One re cent work is "The Praeger Picture Encyclopedia of Art." Other titles include Horst Jan son's "The Picture History of Painting from Cave Painting to Modern Time," Alexander Eliot's "Three Hundred Years of American Painting," and Everard Upjohn's "History of World Art." New Volumes Several new volumes are available on the art of various Asiatic countries: Peter Swann's "An Introduction to the Arts of Japan;" "The Folk Arts of Japan," by Hugo Munsterberg; Robert Paine's "Masterpieces of Korean Art;" "Chinese Art." by Lubor Ha jek; and Cyril Bunt's "Russian Art." Two recent additions to the art reference collection are the UNESCO publications, "Catalogue of Colour Repro ductions of Paintings Prior to 1860," and its sequel bearing the same title which deals with the period from I860 to 1957. Mrs. Baker reports that a 15-volume reference "En cyclopedia of World Art," published by McGraw-Hill, will be gradually added to the library's collection, vol ume by volume, beginning next fall. It will include all the fine arts and is expected to take the place of many smaller works which would otherwise have to be pur chased. Do-It-Yourself Do-it-yourself aspects of art are represented by such books as "Oil Painting for Every one," by Frank Slater; "Mak ing Watercolor Behave," by Eliot O'Hara; "Oil Painting," by James Bateman; "Tech niques of Painting," by Henry Gasser; and "Sculpture, Tech niques in Clay, Wax, Slate," by Frank Eliscu. Additional new titles on art include "Modern Art: A Pic torial Anthology," edited by - i ;1 ' 4 1 I Mod.! DA 420S no $i 9 Charles McCurdy; "American Folk Art," by Ellen Sabine; "The Louvre," by Germain Bazin; "Changing Face of Beauty," by Madge Garland; and "An Atlas of Anatomy For Artists," by Fritz Schider. With the exception of the reference books, any of the above titles may be obtained by request through the Jack son county library branches, or at the Medford headquar ters library. tan , 1 1 1 j&i: j ACCUSING her of miscon dust with Holland's resigned defense minister, Frederick Lek files divorce suit against Mrs. Lek, of La Jolla. Janet Leigh Shape, Reporter Notes By VERNON SCOTT UPI Hollywood Correspondent Hollywood -(CPD - Janet Leigh, starring in her first movie since the birth of her baby eight months ago, is in better shape (36-23-36) than she was before the stork be gan flapping around. The blonde beauty obviously didn't allow motherhood to louse up her curves. Husband Tony Curtis, who stopped by her dressing room for a quick kiss, observed, "she has the best figure in town. She gets more wolf whistles now than when we were first dating." Janet, dressed in a skin tight leotard, unhesitatingly agreed. Unemployment in State Increases Salem -(UPD- Insured unem ployment rose about 5 per cent in (Oregon last week as 8.247 persons filed for unem ployment compensation bene fits. David H. Cameron, com missioner of the Employment Department, said this was far below the 17,422 claims of a year ago. About 78 per cent of the current increase resulted from women applicants laid off in food processing industry. But the department said that with the green bean season fast ap proaching, this condition should be reversed in the near future. The only f orseeable factor which might increase claims in the next few weeks, Cam eron noted, would be an ex tensive woods closure due to fire danger. At present woods workers have experienced some cut-backs, but no wide spread shutdown. Post offices in New York and Chicago account for about 15 per cent of the total postal revenues. I look better both in and out of my clothes." The whole Mrs. Curtis package is wrapped in 110 pounds of curves, supported by a pair of the shapeliest stems in Cinema City. Moviegoers will be able to ogle Janet for themselves later this year when she and Tony co-star 'in "Who Was That Lady?" for Columbia Pictures. It's the couple's fifth picture together. "I gained only 10 pounds while I was pregnant," Janet chattered on. "That's the secret. Most women are afraid they'll ruin their figures by having babies. Well ,it's not what a girl does alter tne baoy arrives. It s a matter of staying in condition while they're expecting. Careful of Diet "I was careful of my diet and ate very little salt. After my daughter Jamie was born I started playing tennis, and within three weeks I could wear all my clothes. Fortun ately, I'm so active around the house I didn't have to take exercises. "Too many women decide they will be lazy during preg nancy. They just lie around and expect other people, in cluding their husbands, to wait on them." "Nowadays maturity is the most important element on the screen, and becoming a mother makes the difference. I don't have to wear low-cut dresses any more to prove I'm sexy or to make people aware I'm a woman." Tony reappeared to escort his wife to the set. "I heard your last remark," he grinned.
