Miami Takes Rochester United Press International George Zuverink, sent down by the Baltimore Orioles to "find himself," discovered he still had .what it takes when he spun a four-hitter, against Rochester Tuesday night to give Miami a 3-0 first-game victory. Zuverink, whose only oth er appearances with the Mar- 1 lins were brief relief stints, was taken off the Baltimore disabled list recently and sent down to Miami to work out a sore arm. The righthander's triumph enabled Miami to gain an even : split as the Red Wings took the second game, 3-1, in 10 in nings. It also prevented the ' Marlins from dropping into fourth place in the Interna tional league. Montreal, right on Miami's built a 2-0 lead as Clyde Par- ris blasted his 18th homer of i the season in the second in ning and went on to defeat Richmond, 5-1. JUNIOR CHAMPS-The first place winners in the five divisions of the Southern Ore gon Junior Golf championships were an nounced yesterday afternoon at the tourna ment's conclusion. Left to right, they are Tillamook, Redding Youths Share Honors In Jr. Golf If-was a hot day for the youngsters yesterday at Rogue Valley Country club but when they got on the greens and whistled their clubs through Medford's 100-degree-plus air they played hot enough golf to match the weather. Graham Brunes of Tilla mook came up with the low score for the Southern Ore gon Junior Golf champion ships and a first-place trophy in the Boys division - with a 36-hole total of 152. Cliff Jernigan of Redding shot a 153, good enough to win the tall Californian first place honors in the" Junior division. Medford's Pam Stacey fired a, 172 to gain top spot in the Girls division. A 'long 36 strokes behind was Cherry Pinkstaff of Eugene, whose 208 won her second place in the division. Chuck Milne, Salem, had low score for the Pee Wees with 182. Defending champ Treasure Sullivan, Ashland, was nosed out for first place in the Jun ior Girls division by 6 strokes by Peggy Saunders of Grants Pass. Peggy shot a 198, Trea sure a 204. Seventy-eight exuberant en tries entered competition in the championships this year, played Monday and yesterday Other trophy winners were Mike Monroe of Mediora, a slim one stroke off the pace set by Jernigen, taking second in the Juniors with a 154, and Dennis Soran of Klamath Falls, With a 156.' In the Boys division, second place went to Chuck Allen of Medford with a 155 and third was taken by Mike Kolb of Salem with a 159. Medtord . 186 Montana Ranchers Die in Plane Crash Bozeman, Mont.- (UPD -Four prominent ranchers from southeastern Montana were killed Tuesday when their light . plane crashed and burned on the timbered slope of the Bridger t mountains about 25 miles northeast of here. Sheriff D. J Skerritt iden tified the victims as former Montana state Sen. L. D. Powell, about 72; O. D. Reder, about 62; Merle Fletcher, about 62; and Gerald Butcher, in his 20s. The plane was owned and piloted by Reder. It crashed while en route from Helena to Biddle. The Medford AAU All-Com ers track and field champion ship meet will be held Satur day, July 25, at Medford high school. - " Competition ii four girls' and six boys' age groups is scheduled. Junior groups (ages 9-16) get underway at 10 a.m., with ages 17 and up beginning at 5 p.m. A 50 cents entry fee will be charged at the championship meet. Ribbons'will be award ed to (the first five place win ners in each event in each age group.- . Turnout at the four previ ous all-comers meets has been good and the championship contest is expected to draw a larger field. The fight was rescheduled for Aug. 12. This .was, the second time the fight was post poned. Quinn said he spoke to Moore in San Diego, follow ing the fighter's sudden de parture from here Monday to be with his seriously ill wife. Quinn said Moore asked for the postponement because he was distraught over the condi tion of his wife, Joan. Mrs. Moore underwent a five-hour operation Monday night for removal of a non malignant tumor which had been pressing against her brain. Moore, whose title defense against Yvon Durelle in Mon treal has now been postponed until Aug. 12, arrived from the Canadian city early Tues day and spent the morning at the hospital. Second Delay The champion spoke by telephone to promoter Eddie Quinn in Montreal Tuesday to arrange for the postponement. It was the second in the re match, which had been set back from July 15 to July 29 when Moore suffered a bruised heel. Moore was uncertain about when he would return to Montreal to resume training. "Joan's condition is the key to the whole situation and when I know How she's com ing along I will decide," he said." Phil Moyer Wins Fight In Fresno Fresno, Calif. - (UPE - Phil Moyer, of Portland, Ore., scored a unanimous 10-rouhd decision over Mexican welter weight champion Augustin Rosales Tuesday night in a fast-paced bout at Memorial Auditorium. Moyer, although the recip ient of several hard rights in the middle rounds, was never in trouble, keeping Rosales off balance throughout most of the fight with an effective left jab. There were no knock downs. .. Referee Frank Manfredo, the sole official, gave it to Moyer, 97-94. Moyer weighed 150, while Rosales tipped the scales at 150V2. The win gives Moyer a 17-2 record. Rosales, of Mexico City, is now 118-17-4. All Mad dox did was belt a pair of two run homers and three singles in five trips Tuesday night against Wenatchee in North west League action. However, it wasn't enough. Wenatchee tied it at 6-6 in the eighth frame and then got three more runs in the same frame on Jerry Cooper's three run homer. Golden Boy Says That He 'Slipped' Los Angeles (UPD Veteran boxer Art Aragon indignant ly protested in court Tuesday testimony that his former wife knocked him down during a domestic scuffle. "I , slipped, your honor," said the 31-year-old "Golden Boy." Municipal Judge William H. Rosenthal dismissed an assault with a deadly weapon charge brought by Aragon's former wife, Georgina, 30, when she said she didn't want to press the charge. Aragon was accused of hit ting his wife and attempting to run her down with his auto July 12 when she refused to allow him to visit their chil dren while in the company of a girl friend.
