The Maids beat the Lumber jills earlier this year but the Jills were short four players at the time and tomorrow night's game is expected to be tougher. Track Meet At Ashland Friday The final track and field meet of the summer season under the Ashland summer recreation program will be held Friday night, July 24, on the track at Southern Oregon college. Field events will begin' at 7:15 p.m. and running events at 7:45. . The Ashland Cubs, aided by 7 errors by the Central Point Braves, kept their grip on the number one spot in the Pee Wee league yesterday with a 10 to 1 victory over the Braves. The Medford Wildcats broke up their ball game with two runs in the final inning to take the Medford Tigers, 2 to 1, and hang on to second place as third-place Central Point Indians were idle. In other action, Eagle Point tripped up the cellar-inhabiting Ashland Bears by 5 runs to . 2 to move up to fourth place, a half game up on the Tigers. Ashland Victory Ashland's victory over the Bears came, with the aid of just one hit by the team, a single by Pierson. But the team scored runs in the first, second, third and fifth innings to take the game running away. ' " For the Braves, Frank Arm strong belted out a triple and Hamilton added a double. Wildcats Win It was 0-0 . going into the last frame of the Wildcat-Tiger fray but the Cats brought in two runs on a double by Tom Wooton and a single by Ed Coss. Jack Regas Condition Is The Same Couer d'Alene, Idaho -(UPD- Injured hydroplane driver Jack Regas rested semi-con scious Tuesday night in an air- conditioned hospital room with no change in his "slight ly improved" condition. "Everyone is treating Jack just wonderfully," said his brother, Mitchell, who ar rived from Oakland, Calif., with his mother after an 18 hour drive. Jack's wife ar rived by plane Monday morn ing. "Friends . and . fans have sent in 'more flowers than his hospital" room can handle," Mitchell Regas said. "And he must have received more than a thousand cards." Regas, wiry, little hydro pilot who holds the world speed' record for propeller driven craft and winner of last year's Gold Cup, suffered three broken ribs, a possible skull fracture and a broken bone in one hand. Davis Cup players, in cluding Wimbledon titleholder Alex Olmedo, were scheduled to compete today in the third round of the 60th Pennsyl vania Lawn Tennis champion ship. t Olmedo, accused of laka daisical play in the National Clay Court quarter finals last week, came back with a ser ious attack Tuesday to ad vance through the . first two rounds of the Pennsylvania tourney. He scored a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Mac White, Austin, Tex., in the opening round and then downed Alan Roberts, Brook lyn, N. Y., 6-2,. 6-2 in the second round. Jones Against Action - Olmedo . has been threat ened with suspension because of his play against , South Africa's Abe Segal in the Clay Court tournament last rweek but Perry Jones, of Lbs An geles, captain of the Davis Cup team, said he was against such action. Jones, speaking at the an nual banquet at the Merion Cricket. Club Tuesday night, said he opposed any suspen sion of Olmedo from further tourney play. He blamed the incident on "battle fatigue" on the part of the Peruvian play er. . Olmedo told the gathering that he was sorry for the in cident. Jones, who is 71, said he might give up the captaincy of the Davis Cup team after the next challenging round at Forrest Hills. A selection com mittee will choose the four players for the round this week. The three other previous Davis Cup players who joined the top seeded Olmedo in the third round were Barry Mac kay, the defending champion from Dayton, Ohio, Vic Seixas of Philadelphia, and Earl Bucholtz, St. Louis. Mackay and Seixas over whelmed their opponents but Buchholtz had to rally to pull out of a tight contest with Straight Clark, of Philadel phia, and eventually win 6-8, 6-4. and .6-2. GIANTS SIGN VETERANS New York - (UPDr The New York Giants have signed de fensive aces Andy Robustelli and Tom Scott to 1959 Nation al FootbalL league contracts. Robustelli will be starting his ninth pro season while Scott, recently acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles, begins his seventh. Irish Pat KO's Attley In Third Seattle, Wash.-flJPD-Irish Pat McMurtry knocked out Earl Attley, of Kennett Square, Pa., Tuesday night in the third round of a scheduled 10 round, outdoor heavyweight match. McMurtry, of Tacoma, Wash., came into the bout at 191 pounds. Attley weighed 196. The Irishman was in con trol all the way, except for a moment in the second round when Attley buckled his kiees with a left hook. 32nd Win McMurtry came back, to drop his opponent for a nine count as the round ended ahd then came on strong to put him away in the third. 4 . The victory was McMurtry's second since being knocked out by Nino Valdez last De cember in Madison Square Garden. It was his 32nd win against three losses and his 25th knockout. Irish Pat's brother, Mike, made his pro debut on the card, scoring a fourth round TKO over Ken Kass of Butte, Mont., in a heavyweight walk out bout.
