George Zuverink, sent down
by the Baltimore Orioles to
"find himself," discovered he
still had .what it takes when
he spun a four-hitter, against
Rochester Tuesday night to
give Miami a 3-0 first-game
victory.
Zuverink, whose only oth
er appearances with the Mar-
1 lins were brief relief stints,
was taken off the Baltimore
disabled list recently and sent
down to Miami to work out
a sore arm.
The righthander's triumph
enabled Miami to gain an even
: split as the Red Wings took
the second game, 3-1, in 10 in
nings. It also prevented the
' Marlins from dropping into
fourth place in the Interna
tional league.
Montreal, right on Miami's
built a 2-0 lead as Clyde Par-
ris blasted his 18th homer of
i the season in the second in
ning and went on to defeat
Richmond, 5-1.
In other games, Columbus
- shutout Toronto. 6-0, on.. Joe
Gibbon's three-hitter and Pan-
cho Herrera's homer in the
11th inning gave Buffalo a 3-2
victory over Havana.
