State Farming Hits High Tempo Salem -tCTD- Oregon agricul ture hit a high tempo in mid July leading the way to a total employment figure of 700,000, the department of employ ment said Friday. This was an increase of 47,000 workers since the middle of May. The strawberry harvest pro vided most of the new jobs mainly in the Willamette val ley. But new jobs also were reported around Ontario, Hood River and Milton-Free-water. The Umatilla county green pea harvest requires about 600 seasonal workers. Prepa ration for coming harvests has spurred employment through out the state's farm areas. Some 9,000 workers were added to the work force in the canning and preserving industry and about 2,000 more in wood products concerns. Bob Crosby Signed For Show a! Fair Salem (CPU Bob Crosby and his band have been sign ed for the Oregon State fair review, Manager Howard Maple announced yesterday, The fair starts here Sept. 5 and runs to Sept. 12. Crosby will present several acts and serve as master of ceremonies for. the night re view, Maple said. New this year will be two night shows, the first at 6:30 p.m. and the second at 8:30, This will allow early patrons to see the night review and also attend the later horse show the same evening. Maple' said plans for county exhibits should be announced by Aug. 1. Commercial flower exhibits should be listed with the fair management by the same date and reservations made by Aug. 22. CLUB NEWS Krazy Kooks On July 10, the Krazy Kooks met at the home of Mrs. James Pullman. Robert Pullman called the meeting to order. John Zenor read the min utes. Tony Note gave a dem onstration on how to make brownies. Jimmy Carnegie and John Miller gave a dem onstration on how to make a fruit basket. The next meeting will be July 13. Steve Nelson, Reporter Century Bakers The Century Bakers held a meeting at the home of Mrs. Glen Branch, there was one new member, Marion Gal lucci. We had a barbecue and saw some movies of the wedding of Mrs. Branch's oldest daugh ter, Glenda. We also saw mov ies of the Pear Blossom Festi val parade. The next meeting will be in about a week. He criticized the adminis tration at Juneau, for failure to give him policy guidance. Alaska Gov. William A. Egari removed Radinsky from the $1,000 a month position. The chief executive told Ra dinsky he wanted closer liai son between the exhibit and the Alaska state department of administration. Radinsky denied there was any animosity between him self and the governor . He said his dispute, with the department of administra tion, was over vouchers for bills submitted as soon as money was expended. Coach Dies After Operation Portland (DPD Assistant David Douglas" High School Coach Harry, Scarff died here Friday following an opera tion for an ulcer at Osteo pathic hospital. He .taught physical educa tion and was assistant coach in football, track and basket ball. Last football season, he suffered an ulcer attack. Scarff, a ! Douglas faculty member for three years, coached at Central Catholic for 11 years and at Roosevelt high for two years. He was a native of Del Norte, Colo. Most of the estate consist ed of timber rights which came to him as a member of the Klamath Indian tribe. His death is still under in vestigation. Merchant Patrolman Nabs Boy for Crime Apprehension of a 14-year-old youth from Oakland, Calif., Thursday night, clear ed up a burglary of Shinn's Food market at 915 West Mc Andrews rd., sheriff's officers reported Friday. The youth was' returned to his father on condition that the grocer be paid $10 for damage done by the youth and the goods taken. The youth and his parents were visiting from Oakland. The Oakland youth was apprehended by LeRoy A. Starker, merchant patrolman. The youth was turned over to sheriffs deputies Friday morning.
