MAIL TRIBUNE, Medfofd. Or. Thursday April 30. 1959 5 MOT - .. .. M ' . . . Vacation Pay Measure Beaten Salem OJPD The Senate Wednesdy defeated a meas ure which would have pro vided lor payment for unused vacation time for a group of former state officials. However, Sen, Alice Cor bett (D-Portland), said she possibly would ask for recon sideration of the vote today. The bill called for distribu tion of $10,640 in accumulated ! vacation pay xo n lurmei state officials who were mem bers of the administrations of ex-Govs. Robert Holmes and Elmo Smith. Sen. Ben Musa (D-The Dalles), led the opposition, saying that these men, when they accepted political jobs, knew what they were con fronted with. He added if they did not take their vacations when due they should lose them just as they would in federal service. Sen. Ward Cook (D-Port-land), said if members of the Senate wanted these officials to let state business go hang and eo on vacations they have earned they should vote against the biU. "They have earned these vacations and did not take them because they were dedicated to the duties assigned them," he said. Grange News...
