ILLINOIS VALLEY PTA Officers Elected By RUTH RAUSCH Cave Junction - Mrs. Van Johnson was elected to head the new slate of officers of the Illinois Valley High school PTSA at the regular meeting of the organization held in the school last Thursday. Others elected to serve with her were Mrs. Bob Cherry, vice president; Howard Wal ton, teacher-vice president; Mrs. Monte Heald, secretary and S. S. Castleberry, treas urer. The High school will be the host school for a joint instal lation f officers of all the valley schools some time in May. All parents are asked to watch for the dare' of installa tion and plan to attend as an Important issue will be placed before the public for approval. It has been proposed that the valley schools hold joint meetings so that there will be only one PTA meeting for parents to attend each month. The schools will each retain its own staff of officers, its own set of by-laws and will each take a turn at being the host school. - The schools will still con duct individual open-house sessions and fund raising proj ects, but all regular business meetings would be held joint ly. An evening of fun, games and entertainment is being planned for the benefit of the valley Cub Scout pro gram, Saturday, May 2 in the American Legion Auxiliary rooms, beginning at 7 p.m. Door prizes and game prizes will' be given away. Proceeds will be used for the purchase of awards, for sponsoring the annual picnic and other pack activities. The public is invited to attend. Climaxing the year's activ ities for the Illinois Valley chapter of Future Farmers of America, will be the annual banquet scheduled for Satur day, May 2, in the high school gymnasium at 7:30 pjn. . The dinner will be prepared by the boys on the new out door barbecue pit which the chapter has built near the Vo ag building. Some 150 tickets have gone on sale, according to Mike Burnett, general chairman for the affair. Vibert Kirk, O'Brien, was named acting chief of the Illi nois Valley volunteer firemen following the resignation of Dudley Andre. During the regular Cub Scout Pack meeting last Fri day at the Kerby school, Bob cat awards were given to six boys: Dewayne Bridges, Billy Brown, Bill Ward, Jerry Beard, Jimmy Piper and Mel vin Pullen. A donation for the Pack was pre sented to Cubmaster Brecken- ridge by the Illinois Valley Civic Women's League. The newly-chartered Boy Scout Troop 123, took its in itial field trip last Saturday to Forest flats, about 26 miles up the Illinois river. Scout master Bill Burch and assist ant Scoutmaster Bill Box ac- companied the boys on the trip, which was a combaina tion nature and geology study, The boys included Randy Gibbs, Ira Calley, Bobby Higgs, Larry Nielson, Jim Donoghe, Dallas Mickey, Billy Box, Graig Yarborough, Dan ney Smith, Mike Pullen and Jim Burch. The troop, sponsored by the Illinois Valley Jubilee asso ciation, received its charter at presentation ceremonies at the Scout clubhouse Wednes day, April 15. The Rev. Harold Mackey will be in Medford on Friday, helping with plans for the Methodist, Rural Life Fellow ship banquet and program which will be part of the Ore gon Annual Conference when it meets in Medford the last week in May. Friday evening the Rev. Mackey will attend the Wild erville Methodist church loy alty dinner where the Rev. pCyril Dorsett of Myrtle Creek will be the guest speaker. Huggins Named fo Head Program Here M. M. Huggins of Medford has been named county, chair man for the Oregon State Col lege Alumni association pro gram to raise funds to install carillonic bells in the campus Memorial Union, student ac- ticity center. Huggins is member of the OSC alumni board of directors. " The bell project, in the planning stage for several years, was officially endorsed by the Alumni association last month. The goal for purchase of the 61-note electronic in strument is $31,000. One-third of the total has already been raised, through contributions by alumni, students and friends. The bells will be dedicated to memory of Oregon Staters who died in military service during World War II and the Korean conflict.
