Egyptian Women Prepare World Prayer Service for the World Day of Prayer, which is to be ob served on Friday, February 13, in the Church of the Naza rene, was prepared this year by a committee of nine Egyp tian women of various faiths. These women represent grad uates of the French school of the Sacred Heart, St Mary's English School and the Ameri can College for Girls in Cairo, it is stated. Women of Medford Council of United Church Women, who sponsor this observance each year, announce that the theme for the day is "Lord, I Believe" and it is hoped that those attending will feel, as the service is given, that all are guest of Christian wom en of Egypt. Beginning at 12:30 p.m. a sandwich luncheon will b e held in the church annex. Edch one attending is asked to bring but one sandwich; coffee will be served by wom en of the church. While seated about the luncheon table, phases of the day's service will be presented by several ministers of Medford. The Rev. Richard Jones will present thoughts on "Ad oration in Prayer", the Rev. Raymond W. Hum on ".Thanksgiving in Prayer" and Clynton Crisman on "Confes sion and Contrition In Pray er". Dr. D. K. West's topic is "Intercession and Commit ment in Prayer." Mrs. Grover Corum is in charge of this portion of the program and Mrs. L. B. Denney, Mrs. Bayard Getchell, Mrs. Bruce Owens, Mrs. Leon Yon dell and Mrs. Ray Pence. Mission projects, to which the offering goes, will be told in dramatic form by Mrs. Milton Snow, Mrs. Gerald Sherman, M r s. Walter Hig gins, Mrs. Charles Gustafson, Mrs. Robert Hoftetter, Mrs. Dave Allen and Mrs. Robert Backus. Mrs. Ricken states that spe cial services are to be held at Camp White and at the County Farm Home, thus bringing to inmates a portion of the World Day of Prayer service. A nursery will be main tained for small children. Frank Yoakum - Dixon Marriage Of Interest in Medford Of interest here is news of the wedding of Miss Jane Maxine Dixon to Frank M Yoakum, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alva I. Yoakum, 309 West Jackson street, Medford. The bride's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Douglas D. Dixon, Lake- wood, Calif. The wedding was held Jan uary 17 at the Chapel of the Wedding Bells in Bellflower, Calif. The Rev. Harold N. Banks of Christ Presbyterian church read the double-ring ceremony at eight o'clock in the eve ning. Frank Small sang. White chrysanthemums, ferns and potted palms, with red and white candles, decorated the chapel. The bride, given in mar riage by her father, wore a floor-length gown of white Chantilly lace and net over satin. Her veil of illusion net was edged in lace and caught by a cap of seed pearls. Her "something old" was the pet ticoat worn by the bride. It was first worn by the matern al grandmother of the bride groom at her wedding in 1900, and has been loaned to many valley brides. The brid al bouquet was of white ca mellias, a white orchid and ivy, and her pearl necklace was a gift of the bridegroom. Miss Judy Dixon, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. Her gown was of red chiffon over taffeta and she carried a bouquet of white camellias with red carnations. Best man was Roland W. Kruggel, Medford, brother-in-law of the bridegroom. Carl Funk and Charles Inger soll seated the guests. A reception followed the ceremony in the chapel re ception hall with 150 guests present. Miss Jackie Willets was in charge of the guest book and Mrs. Roland Krug gel, Medford, sister of the bridegroom took care of the gift list. For the .wedding, and re ception the bride's mother wore a rose lace dress with matching accessories and cor sage of red roses. Mr. and Mrs. Yoakum jour neyed to Santa Barbara for their wedding trip. For trav eling the bride -chose a red print jersey dress with red accessories and the white or chid from her bridal bouquet. The bride was graduated from Bellflower High school where she served as Girls' league president in her sen ior year. Following his gradu ation from Medford High school, Mr. Yoakum was as sistant manager of the local F. W. Woolworth store for a year before being transferred to numerous stores in the Los Angeles area. He is now man ager of the Woolworth store in San Luis Obispo, Calif., and the newlyweds are living there. Mr. and Mrs. Yoakum will visit in Medford before Mr. Yoakum begins a two-year tour of active duty with the U.S. Navy Reserve about March 1. Attending the wedding from Medford, were the bridegroom's parents, his sis ter and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Roland W. Kruggel and daughters, Valerie and Victoria, Mrs. Vesta Shearin and son, Lowell, and former Medford residents, Thayer Shearin, Mr. and Mrs. David Eaton and Mrs. Frank Small. Chapter to Work On Easter Seals Easter seals will be pre pared for mailing during a meeting ! of Alpha Lambda chapter, Epsilon Sigma Al pha international sorority, Monday, February 9, at the home of Mrs. Robert Shangle. Mrs. Robert Klumph, Jack son county mailing chairman for the Easter Seal drive, will be in charge of preparing the seals during the evening. The annual fund . raising drive will be held February 27 to March 29, according to Mrs. C. C. Peterson, county chairman. Alpha Kappa chapter, Ash land, also assists with the work in Jackson county. Auxiliary Head To Be in City For Ceremony Mrs. Natalie Williams, Port land, department president of the United Spanish War Vet erans auxiliary in Oregon will be in Medford, Sunday, Feb ruary 15 to install officers elect of Colonel Sargent aux iliary at Redman hall. She will be assisted by the colors fef Rogue -. River auxiliary, Grants Pass. Among the guests will be the department senior presi dent, Mrs. Elizabeth Hoff man, McMinnville. Mrs. Hoff man and her late husband, Dr. E. W. Hoffman, lived in Med ford for many years before moving to McMinnville. They both were former members of the local camp and auxiliary.; Mrs. Hoffman is the house guest of Mr. and Mrs. George Tucker. Mrs. Myrtis Morgan is president-elect of the auxiliary. Mrs. Bertha Nelson, retir ing president, will preside at a short business meeting be fore the installation. A banquet wil be held in honor of Mrs. Williams and other guests. Mrs. Josephine Widner, dinner chairman, is in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Don Anderson and Mrs. James Vander Steen will decorate the tables and the hall. The camp will install offi cers also after the banquet. All Spanish American War veterans and families are in vited to attend the cere monies. Betrothal Told At Bridge Party The engagement of Mrs. Eve Morgan, 38 North Oak dale avenue, to Ralph Green, also of Medford, was an nounced at a bridge club par ty January 27 at the home of Mrs. Clyde Ramsay. Mrs. Morgan is the cosme tician at Postal Rexall Drug store in Central Point. The engagement was an nounced by way of corsages of pink carnations and lily-of-the-valley at each place which were tied with bows bearing the names of Eve and Ralph. The tafjles were decorated with pink candles. Following dessert bridge was played. Present for the occasion were Mrs. Ross Gilkison, Mrs. Paul Chinn, Mrs. Gene Dyke, Mrs. Charles Hill, Mrs. M. W. Taylor and . Mrs. Alva Per kins. 4 Stay in Japan Ends for Family Mr. and Mrs. Carl E. Ellis and daughters, Carla and Cath, have returned to Med ford following two and a half years in Japan while Mr. El lis was serving with Naval Intelligence near Tokyo. Mrs. Ellis is the former Joan Wick, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin G. Wick, formerly of Medford and now of Gold Hill. Mr. Ellis is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Byron N. Ellis, 820 Crater Lake av enue, Medford, where they are currently making their home. Mr. Ellis, who with his fam ily returned January 22 aboard the Military Sea Tran sport Service vessel General E. D. Patrick, was recently discharged following four years of service. A graduate of Medfora High school and attended Oregon State college, he plans to work with his brother, Har old, at the Flying A Service Station on Crater Lake avenue.. Mr. and Mrs. John Francis McClelland McClelland - Leach Rites Take Place in Hong Kong A wedding held recently in Hong Kong, British Crown Colony, is of interest here. Miss Elayne Rae Leach, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward J. Leach, 1228 Cor ona avenue, Medford, became the bride of John Francis Mc Clelland in the ceremony. Mr. McClelland is a son of Mrs. W. A. McClelland, Yorkshire, England, fend is serving with the Royal' Air Force in Hong Kong where the couple are making their home. The Rev. E. J. Hopkins officiated at the double ring rites ' heid December 13 at the English Methodist church. The three o'clock afternoon wedding was attended by 50 relatives and friends. White gladiolus and chry santhemums decorated the church for the ceremony. The bride wore a blue silk brocade dress and a small white hat with short veil. She carried a bouquet of white gladiolus and white tuberoses. J. C. Inkson, commanding of ficer of the squadron, gave the bride in marriage. Miss Penny Ayres attended the bride. The bride is a graduate of Medford High school and Southern Oregon college and had been making her home in Eugene while she taught in the public schools there. Prior to her teaching posi tion there she taught a year in Japan. Mr. McClelland is an electrical technician with the RAF. They are making their home at 6A Grampian road, second floor, Kowloon, Hong Kong, BCC. Mistletoe Club Mistletoe club will meet Wednesday, February 11 at 10:30 a.m. in the Girls Com munity club for sewing. Luncheon will be served at 12:30 p.m. with a business meeting to follow. Former Resident Now on Staff of Fresno Hospital . Mrs. Kathryn D. Jack, for merly on the staff of the Camp White hospital, has been ac cepted as medical secretary for the new Veterans' Admin istration hospital at Fresno, Calif. The Fresno institution is a general medical and sur gical hospital. After leaving Medford, Mrs. Jack went to Palo Alto where she has been on the staff of the Va hospital, a neuro-psy-chiatric institution. Mrs; Jack is a daughter of Mrs. Kathryn Diepenbrock, 15 Vancouver avenue, Med ford, who plans to visit her daughter in early spring.
