' What pleased me particu larly was to see that this room is presided over by a fine, sensible and friendly woman who serves as a host ess and a comforter. When one of her guests gets very anxious, she goes to the' door of the operating-room, and returns perhaps to say that all is going well. Instead of the relative of a patient sitting anxiously alone in a cheerless room, as is the custom in most hospitals, here he or she sits in a cheery place with others, all drawn together by a common anx iety. Those who wish can chat; others can read the current magazines that are supplied. In the room there is a kitchen ette from which the hostess, from time to time, serves cof fee or tea, with cookies. The wonderful feature of this room is that the hostess does not let the waiting ones feel that they are . alone, de serted, and unable to find out what is happening to their loved ones.
