MAIL TRIBUNE, M.dford, Oregon, Friday, January 2, 1959 7 Mew Construction Plans Continue, Pastors Attend Conventions Br PEG HUTCHINSON Mail Tribune Church Editor Eighteen new ministers arrived in the valley during 1958 to make it the top devel opment in the church newt department, overshadow i n g church construction which has been the big story for the two prior years. Although 17 ministers were transferred from the area, to day only one large church is without a pastor. That church, St. P-ter Evangelical Luther an church, expects its new minister within the month. Four church buildings and one Sunday school unit were completed during the year while three building pro grams were started by other churches. Largest among these is the proposed $100,000 Medford Seventh-day Adven tist church and the five-year construction program of Zion Lutheran church costing $95,-' 000. Religious Travelers Of particular interest dur ing 1958 were the many reli gious travelers. In July nearly 90 valley ministers of the Je hovah's Witnesses attended the International Divine Will convention in New York City. Other travelers included lo cal ministers who held reviv als in foreign countries and ministers who attended na tional conferences of " their denominations throughout the United States. 1 The new ministers in the valley included the Rev, Hen ry I. Kirkland West, First Presby terian church, who attended the general assembly meeting in Pittsburgh, Pa.; and Mrs. Roy Bosworth, minister of Unity Center of Medford, who attended a three-week annual meeting of the Ministerial as sociation of Unity School of Christianity in Lee's Summit, Mo. The young people's Bible quiz team of Medford Free Methodist church were state winners and traveled to Win ona Lake, Ind., to participate in the international cham pionship contest. Other travelers were the Rev. L. R. Collins, Central Point evangelist, who spent six months in Japan, and the Rev. Leo Wine, Faith Taber nacle, Ashland, who conduct ed a revival in Nicaragua. Medford Seventh-day Adventists break ground for $100,000 church building ... the year by Mr. Neely and Dr. West. Mr. Neely was elect ed corresponding secretary of the Conservative Baptist Home Missionary society board at a meeting in Chicago, while Dr. West was appointed to a committee on ehurch un ion for the 'United Presbyte rian church of U.S.A. He was also selected as a committee member sponsored by the board of national missions to survey the Hawaiian islands for possible future Presbyte rian churches.
