MAIL TRIBUNE, MedforiJ, Oregon, Friday. November 14, IMS IS Washington Upset Of Bears Forecast By HAL WOOD San Francisco - (UPD -Sat urday's pikskin picks: Washington over Califor nia: Our upset special of the week. Mud is predicted for Seattle on Saturday and those Joe Kapp pitchouts, the bread-and-butter of the Cali forma attack, are going to be mighty slippery to handle Huskies will be up for this one as it wil throw the Pa cific Coast conference Rose Bowl race into complete con fusion. By 7. UCLA oret Oregon! Bruins finally get the boys working together. They could have whipped California last week with a few more breaks. Webfoots let down after de feat by Washington. By 2 Oregon Stat over Stan ford: Beavers have the speed SPORTS SF Giants Blamed for LA Trouble By HAL WOOD San Francisco (UPD Out fielder Gino Cimoli blamed the San Francisco Giants and an "all-team slump" for the sad showing of the Los An geles Dodgers in 1958 - and at the same time predicted today that the club would be battling for the National league crown next year. "Did you ever hear of every man on a team having a bad year the same season?" asked Cimoli, who winters here, "Well, that's just what hap pened to us last season. "One in a while it hapepns In football - for one day. Such as last Sunday when the Rams beat the Forty Niners 56-7. But we had a bad 'day' all year. Couldn't Top Giants "At that we would have been okay if we could have beaten the San Francisco club. My gosh! They beat us 16 games and we won only six from them. If we could have beaten them as many times as we beat Milwaukee -14-we would have been right up there in the race." The Dodgers finished in seventh place, 21 games off the pace. to cope with the slow-moving Stanford backs. Tackle Ted Bates probably will spend most of the day in the Indian backfield. By 20. Washington Stale over Col lege of Pacific: Cougars are making one of the great late season come backs in west ern college football. Passing attack should out-score Tigers and WSC line will be good enough to hold Dick Bass to reasonable yardage. By 7. Idaho over Utah Stale: The Vandals have been knocked around plenty, but they should be able to hurdle this one. By 6. San Jos Slate over Fresno Spartans, up-and-down club of the West, should handle the Bulldogs the way they did Idaho. But off past rec ords you can't tell: Cal Poly to beat San Jose State; Fresno State beat Cal Poly. So Fresno should be favored We'll take the Spartans. By 23. Also: Chico State over San Francisco State, Cal Aggies over Sacramento State, Ha waii over Humboldt State, Whittier over Oregon Tech, Pepperdine over San Diego U., Los Angeles State over Long Beach State, Cal Poly over San Diego State, Occi dental over Cal Tech and Cal Poly of Pomona over Red lands. Make or Break For LA's Rams Los Angeles - (UPD - The Los Angeles Rams fly east today for a "make or break" three game invasion that will determine if the club is in the running for the Western conference of the NFL. coacn bid uiixman warned his players as they prepared to enplane for Green Bay that their only thoughts should be beating the Packers. "If we look beyond Green Bay, they'll murder us," Gill man said. "Green Bay is a much better club than its rec ord shows. It has some great pass receivers and a break away threat in Al Carmichael who has hurt us every time we've -met them. The Rams on their eastern invasion meet Baltimore and the Chicago Cardinals as well as the Packers before return ing home for their final two games against the Colts and Packers. Duck, Beaver Clubs Slight Favorites United Press International Oregon and Oregon State football teams are both out of 'the state Saturday for the only time during, the regular season and both are slight favorites to win. Coach Tommy Prothro's Oregon State Beavers are a one-touchdown choice over Stanford at Palo Alto in the day's televised game. Oregon State must win this one to stay in the running for the Rose Bowl. Oregon also is a one-touchdown favorite in its game against UCLA at Los Angeles. It may be the last Oregon appearance in Los Angeles for a long time since both UCLA and Southern Cal are not on future Webfoot schedules. Fair Health Oregon State is back in fairly good health for the Stanford game although tail back Grimm Mason probably will miss the game. End Jerry Doman also is doubtful with a still-healing broken hand and a twisted ankle. End Ron Stover and guard Joe Schaffeld, who have been out with injuries for Oregon, made the trip south but it was doubtful if either would be ready to play against UCLA. Herm McKinney, the num ber two left halfback, will miss the game. He was called to Portland because of the death of his father. Oregon and Oregon State meet at Corvallis a week from Saturday and Oregon has a televised game with Miami Dec. 6 at Miami. j iftyuVui Ml IK CONCRETE o Any Time Any Place Any Amount . . .
