C- (IPD -It may cost Gene Thomas Liver ett seven months in prison if he comes. within five feet of a parking meter during the next year. Liverett, 18. was sentenced to seven months for boring a hole in parking meter here. But acting recorder's court judge Carlis Kennedy sus pended the sentence for a year on condition that Liv erett stay at least five feet away from all parking meters during that time. Pears Rale Fourth For Farm Income Salem - Cattle and wheat continued as Oregon's first and second farm income pro ducers in 1957, with dairying and pears in third and fourth place, according to Robert J. Stewart, state director of ag riculture. This information is con tained in the first USDA re port giving a detailed break down of Oregon's farm gate receipts last year. The new figures give a revised look at the total 1957 farm income, now placed at 8397,372,000. This is lower than the pre liminary ' figures released earlier this year. Farmer's cash receipts on the four top commodities in 1957 were: cattle and calves, $63.4 million; wheat, $49.6 million; dairying, $47 million and pears, $20.7 million.. Steward points out these are gross income figures, not net income. He also says the same report shows Oregon gross income per farm gained $98 in 1957 - from S8157 to $8255. But net income de clined $173 - from $2830 in 1956 to $2657 in 1957. Car Reported Stolen Found Minutes Later Herman William Mack, 513 Newtown st., Medford, report ed to city police at 6:27 o'clock this morning that his automobile had been stolen from his residence. Ncn-Partisan Booth Scheduled al Fair Judicial and Medford city council candidates will have non-partisan booths at the Medford League of Women Voters Candidates' Fair at Hedrick Junior High school Oct. 17, Mrs. Thomas Rutter, chairman of the event, said today. The fair, at which candi dates will be available for questioning, will 1 start at 8 p.m. Among candidates who have indicated they will at tend include Gov. Robert D. Holmes (D), who is seeking reelection; Paul E. Geddes (R), Roseburg, candidate for representative from the fourth district, and Charles O. Por ter (D), incumbent candidate for congressman. Mrs. Rutter said voters will have a chance to talk to Dis trict Judge James M. Main, candidate for circuit court No. 1; Edward C. Kelly, can didate for reelection as circuit court judge, No. 3, and E. Roy Bashaw, candidate for district court judge. Republican and Democratic candidates for county offices will have separate booths at the fair, she said. Change Reported Gone From Catholic Church An undetermined amount of change was stolen from Sacred Heart Catholic church Tuesday night or early this morning, according to Med ford city police. The money was taken from the cash drawer in the pamph let rack, police said. The building was'entered through a window in the south side of the church. A part of a stained glass window was re moved, reports showed, al though the glass was not broken. Daily's U-Drive Medford Airport Shrimp Fishing Closure Rescinded Seattle - (LTD - An order calling for a 4V2-month clos ure of the" ocean shrimp fish ery off the Washington coast was rescinded today by State Fisheries Director Milo Moore. The closure was to have be come effective Nov. 1 for the purpose of protecting the in dustry during spawning time. The order had the support of most Washington shrimp fish ermen. However, Moore said, the Oregon Fish Commission de clined to adopt a similar regu lation, claiming lack of bio logical data under the Oregon law prohibited commission ac tion at this time. Without the concurrence of the Oregon commission, Moore explained, it would be useless to restrict Washington shrimp fishermen operating along the coast. Man's Death Said Self-inflicted " Yreka-George L. Duff, o4, Tustin, has been released by Siskiyou County Sheriff A. B. (Al) Cotter. He was held in connection with the death of Walter Odell Ramsey, 60, San Diego county carpenter union business agent. Ramsey was found dead in his car near Happy Camp Sept. 22 with gunshot wounds in his head. Duff, according to Cotter, was held because he hitch hiked from the scene to Yreka, where he boarded a bus for southern California. The men had been in the Happy Camp area on a hunt ing trip. Final reports from a pathol ogist and from the California bureau of criminal investiga tion and identification had es tablished that Ramsey "died of self-inflicted wounds." The reports included finger print evidence showing that "only Ramsey had handled the gun, a Luger pistol, at any time," that two gunshot wounds in Ramsey's head were contact wounds, indicat ing the gun had been pressed against the victim's head; and that a bullet through the jaw believed originally to have been fired downward had coursed upward instead. Ragland Elected To GOP Club Post James Ragland, Medford, was elected president of the Young Republican club at a meeting here Monday. Other officers elected in cluded Dolores Walsh, vice president; Charles Foley, treasurer, and Rowene Holmes, secretary. Ren Taylor, past president, reviewed activities of the club during the past few months, and plans were made for Young Republicans to partici pate in precinct work and ac tive campaigning for Repub lican candidates. N The group will meet again at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ragland, 3182 South Pacific highway, Oct. 13, at 8 p.m. California Man Dies On Fishing Trip Albert Hendrickson, 65, of California, died of a heart at tack yesterday afternoon while riding in a car along the Howard Prairie dam road according to state police to day. Hendrickson's companion, Ben Seroki, Robinson hotel, Medford, was driving him back to Medford after a fishing trip to Hiatt lake. Ser oki told officers that Hend rickson complained of not feeling good then fell over in the front seat about 4:45 p.m. Hendrickson was await ing admittance to the Camp White domiciliary. Trading continued ac tive with Studebaker-Packard leading in turnover. That issue set a new high but lost most of a small gain before the close. Leading motors were fairly active with prices easier. Steel issues slipped back. So did coppers and other metals. Oils firm for a time. turned irregularly lower. Rails sagged. Goodyear lost more than a point in the tires. Chemicals were mixed with Du Pont up more than two at its best and United Carbon and Stauffer off around two points each. Office equipments rose again with new highs in Ad dressograph, up six, Interna tional Business Machines up more than eight, and Pitney Bowes up a point. Oregon) 10 Persons Slightly Portland - (CPU - A busload of filbert pickers overturned four miles southwest of Sher wood, Ore., and 10 occupants suffered minor liurts. They were taken by ambulance to St. , Vincent's hospital here where they were given first aid for bruises and strained muscles and then released. Brakes on the vehicle ap parently failed as it was going up a hill. It rolled backward and then overturned. The bus was carrying the pickers to the Duva ranch when the accident occurred. The injured were Bernard Tanzer, 34, and George Smith, 48, Oregon City, and J. Ste Medford Man Fined In District Court Franklin DeCosta, 206 Lincoln ave., Medford, was fined $100 plus $5 court costs in district court Monday aft ernoon. He had entered a plea of guilty that morning to charges of obtaining Oregon state un employment c o m p ensation benefits by false statements and misrepresentation.
