Parrish, Medford contractor, plans to start structural alterations to the federal office building at 33 North Riverside ave. in ap proximately 10 days. Parrish submitted a low bid of $3,385 recently to the pub lic buildings service in Seattle for the project. Alterations to the roof struc ture, including trusses and beams, and new treads on the stairs are included in the work, Parrish said.' Other bidders included Myers D. Jones, Medford, S4.276; Armin Richter and Associates, Medford, $5,089; Batzer Construction company, Medford, $6,180; and Lorentz Bruun company, Portland, $7,-671. Eisenhower Selects New IRS Commissioner Washington-(DPD-The White House has announced Presi dent Eisenhower's selection of Dana Latham, Los Angeles tax attorney, as the new fed eral commissioner of the In ternal Revenue Service. Owen-Parker Ranch Near Ashland Sold To Baer Company Ashland - Baer Ranch, Inc., which has extensive holdings in Arizona and Nevada, has purchased grazing land and cattle of the Owen - Parker ranch south and east of Ash land. The transaction involved more than $100,000. The purchase from Mrs. Camilla Owen, Minnie Owen Parker and Sumner Parker was for 4,120 deeded acres and more than 250. head of cattle. The transaction also included the ranch's grazing permit in the Dead Indian Cattlemen's association. The Baer company also has purchased the Richard Hein property, which amounts to about 560 acres, on Cove creek. Earlier this year, the Baers purchased the Austie Barron ranch. The recent purchase gives the Baer company properties totaling more than 12,000 deeded acres under fence and permits to run about 1,000 head of cattle on grazing lands. The ranching property is the largest cattle firm in this section of the state. In the Owen - Parker pur chase, Baer bought 790 acres in the Dead Indian ranch, on Conde creek and Dead In dian creek, and 3,400 acres north of Pompadour bluff, or Owen pasture. Riverside erty lies between portions of the Barron and Owen-Parker ranches. The Owen-Parker ranch is one of the oldest in this area. Mrs. Owen is widow of George Owen, who was a prominent cattleman and businessman prior to his death in 1920. He served as county commission er for several 'years and was instrumental in starting the first paving program in the county. The Baers expect to have between 1,200 and 1,500 head of cattle on their southern Oregon holdings, Richard Baer, manager of the Oregon properties, said. Dailey's Motel Near Ashland Purchased Ashland-Dailey's motel on Highway 99 five miles south of Ashland has been sold to William and Mabel Vander wood of Corvallis. Mrs. Corabelle Daily will move to Corvallis and assume operation of a student house near the Oregon State college campus which the Vander woods have been operating. The new owners will assume operation of the motel here late in December. Mrs. Dailey has been op erating the motel with her son, Richard, since Wayne Dailey was killed by Robert Ayres in March this year. Ayres had stopped to obtain gas. ' Cadillacs Banned From Parking Lot St. Louis, Mo.-UPD-A park ing lot company has1 told owners of 1959 Cadillacs to take their business somepxaCc; else. In a newspaper advertise ment Thursday, City Auto Parks said: "Due to the current trend toward ever longer and wider automobiles and the adorn ment of bumpers with glass, we regret to announce we will not be able to accept for park ing certain of the 1959 model automobiles. The first of these will be all of the 1959 Cadil lacs. "If other makes exhibit similar characteristics, we will be obliged to decline these also."
