Grange News Upper Applegate Grange In a general discussion of possible recreation sites that might be developed in con junction with the county court in the Upper Applegate area, members of Upper Ap plegate Grange, at their regu lar meeting Sept. 26, reported that strong opposition had been voiced by owners of property adjoining the Cam eron bridge site with regard to its possible future use as a county camp and picnic ground. Since no response had been received from the non-resident owner of the contemplated site in reply to an offer made some time ago by the county court to purchase the property, -it was felt there was little likeli hood of its being secured and developed for public recrea tion purposes. Inasmuch as thetrange ex ists for the primary purpose of promoting agriculture, and since farmers owning land ad joining other possible county park sites in the Upper Apple gate, are voicing similar ob jections to their being acquir ed and used in this manner be cause of indiscriminate shoot ing, petty thefts of farm pro duce, destruction of fences and other acts of vandalism such as are known to have been perpetrated by some users of recreation areas else where in the county, it was decided to recommend that the county court consider acqui sition through special use agreements of National Forest or O and C tracts for recrea tioal development rather than any sites that adjoin agricul tural land in the Upper Apple gate area. Fred West volun teered to bring this decision to the attention of the county court. It was also pointed out in the discuussion that if and when a dam is erected in the Big Applegate river, the re sulting lake will offer great possibilities as a new recrea tion area for Jackson county.
