Portland, SF Push Fair Plans Portland-OT-Both Portland and San Francisco are going ahead with plans for their trade fairs in 1959 regardless of conflicting dates. San Francisco's decision came in a letter to Portland Mayor Terry D. Schrunk from the Bay city's mayor, George Christopher. "I personally see no con flict between the two fairs because persons and exhibi tors coming west can attend both," Christopher said. The letter which reached Schrunk's office Monday also bore the admission that Port land's fair "appears to be un der civic sponsorship." The San Francisco fair will be privately sponsored. Dates set for the San Fran cisco fair are June 4 to 14, which will overlap with the Portland fair which begins June 10. Mayor Schrunk sent Mayor Christopher a protest letter last week. Schrunk said his chief con cern was for exhibitors. He said the two fairs will work a hardship on foreign coun tries. "They may find it hard to choose," he said. 53rd year Medford Tribune 2nd SECTION MEDFORD, OREGON,. The American - supplied weapons, described as deadly accurate and with a range sufficient to hit any of the Communist gun emplace ments shelling Quemoy, were installed during a barrage by the radar-controlled Red ar tillery but there were no American casualties. I am at a loss as to how to deal with this situation. Bob G. I want to break up this marriage before it takes place because I do not want my friend hurt. The night Elsie stayed with me was no accident. I contrived it .be cause I suspected Elsie could not be faithful, and I proved my point. I would have no further in terest in Elsie if she did not insist that she still intends to go ahead with the marriage. I do not want her to deceive my friend. The last thing in the world I want to do is to tell Ed that I had an affair with his girl, and I would not tell him any thing about it if she would agree to break off with him, I feel she is being brazen be cause she thinks I am bluff ing. In a way I am, but I may be forced to make good on my bluff. I am convinced that if Elsie thought I just wanted to play around with her some more, she would have no scruples about going ahead with me. The Council Elsie has cer tainly gotten herself involved with a queer character. Bob has enough things wrong with him for him to be far more concerned about himself than his friend. He is obviously badly upset because Elsie puts her purple evening with him in the cate gory of a dumb mistake. He would prefer that she attach more importance to his role in her life. : In addition to his extreme egoism, Bob suffers from a highly overdeveloped strain of hypocrisy. He cannot give up the pose of sacrificing his morals to save his friend it om bad marriage. We wonder how this do-gooder would feel if he knew someone else were obliging him in a similar manner. Elsie has been too wishy- washy in her handling of this extremely difficult and mixed up character. She must tell him off very plainly and re fuse to talk to him further. She would be running a risk, but she has no alternative. Elsie has made a stupid mistake and is now forced to take a bold risk. There is no way for her but to throw this man out of her life for good. Exploit Recounted in Paper The latest exploit of John Day, Medford rancher, hunt er and mountain-climber, was recounted in the Portland Oregonian's "B-Mike" column this week. Day, who began mountain climbing less than two years ago, was visiting at Red's Horse Ranch near Cove in the Wallowa mountains last week, when he decided to hike to the back country near Steamboat lake, a trip which usually takes three days. "B-Mike" reported that he was accompanied by "Red" Higgins, ranch proprietor, on horseback, and they left at 5 a.m., returning 17 hours later after Day had hiked 56 miles, 20 of it through snow. Higgins said a horse had to be pushed hard to cover 20 miles in this mountainous area in a day. Day has climbed 32 major mountain peaks in the last 14 months, most of them in the Cascades and Sierras. Sludebaker 'Lark' Auto Introduced South Bend, Ind.
