Twins Outstanding Coach Don Clark, in his second season at Southern California, gave credit for his initial home victory to the en tire team but he singled out sophomore linemen. Dan Fic ca and the McKeever twins, Marlin and Mike, as especial ly outstanding. These sophomores, aided by veteran guards Frank Fioren tino and "Walt Gurasich, larg ely were responsible for hold ing Oregon State to 158 yards on the ground and 46 through the air. Clark, carried off the field by his players on their shoul ders, hailed the win as a "tre mendous team effort. Our kids of last year matured and the sophomores came through like veterans." He also paid tribute to quar terback Wood for his final passing and signal-calling and agreed with Prothro that half back Rex Johnston, a senior limited to five games by con ference edict, played a bril liant game. That's the way Coach John Reed sums up the football situation for ninth graders at McLoughlin Jun ior High school. About 40 gridders at the west side junior high have completed two weeks of re viewing fundamentals of the game, of conditioning and of attempting to learn an of fense. Contact drills have been the order since the first day of practice. Since offense has had stress in drills to date, defense will get main attention in forthcoming prac tices. Along the line some of the top candidates appear to be Monte Jones, Terry O'Con nors and Norman Renner, tackles; Gene Off ord and John Alansky, centers; Joel Gregory, Carl Washburn, Larry Olson and Dave Elm gren, guards, and George Clearwater, end. Backfield working togeth er most of the time consists of Craig Laurence, Larry Plankenhorn, Jim Dexter and Danny Coghill. Among those pushing them are Sonny Leff ler, Steve Kehoe, Eric Kell ner and Rex Nicodemus. The Bulldogs expect a dif ficult task in their ambition to duplicate the success of their 1957 predecessors. Mc Laughlin was undefeated in five games last fall to' claim the unofficial junior high championship of southern Oregon.
