Ralph doesn't do anything for Mother. Ralph B. he should take mother to live with her. Francine R. I am a mar ried woman with three chil dren and I am very much con cerned about my mother, who was widowed a year ago. Mother doesn't go out at all. She is terribly lonely. I would take her to live with me, but there really isn't room in my house and she doesn't want to give up her home. The only thing that . could be done is for my younger brother,- who was recently married, to take her out. I can't do this because I am tied down with the children, but Ralph and his wife have all the freedom in the world. I am furious against Ralph's wife because I know he would do this if it weren't for her. She seems to want to pull him away from the family. She dqesn't like my mother and doesn't care what becomes of her. Ralph B. Francine has a lot of nerve shooting her mouth off at my wife as she has been doing. My wife says Miss GOP Contest Slated at Roundup Selection of Miss Republi can of Jackson County will be a feature of the Republi can Roundup in Hawthorne park Monday, Aug. 18. Win ner of the contest will be en tered in the Miss Jackson County contest Aug. 21-24 at the Medford armory. Mrs. David Irving, Mrs. Bill Prentice, Mrs. Clifford McGinty and Mrs. Donald Stathos are in charge, and are seeking' entrants from throughout Jackson county. Candidates must be high school graduates, not more than 27 years old, and never have been married. Any girl interested in entering the con test is asked to contact a member of the committee. Entrants will be honored at a luncheon Wednesday, Aug. 13, at the Medford hotel, and will make a television ap pearance next Thursday. Pre cinct committeemen and wom en will be judges. The Round up will start at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 18, and will include a picnic. I don't think Francine has any right td tell me what to do when it comes to our mother. I have contributed to Mother's support for near ly ten years long before our father died and that's a heck of a lot more than Francine ever did. My wife says if Francine really lived up to her respon sibilities, she would insist that our mother go to live with her. It is not right for an aged woman to live alone like that. The fact is, I have taken Mother out a few times but she doesn't really enjoy her self with us. . The Council: Francine, her brother and his wife appear to be using this "aged widow" as a kind of bone in a cat and dog fight of their own. Francine and her brother cannot tell one another what their responsibilities ought to be. They have individual problems and personal ideas about what they want to con tribute to their mother's wel fare and happiness. They each have a right to fulfill their obligations in an indi vidual way. If Francine and Ralph are truly concerned about their mother's welfare and not about their private battle, they will give up their child ish recriminations against one another. They will try to cooperate in giving their mother some of their time and will do ev erything they can to encour age her to maintain her in dependence as long as possi ble, and to get out among peo ple of her own age. Both Francine and Ralph should go as far as they can in helping their mother with out making a big burden of it. If they do more than they sincerely want to do their mother will sense it and will feel she is a burden and that will hurt even more than her loneliness. (Copyright 1958, General Features Corp.) Erin Merkel, public health physician. Included in the diseases re ported were one case of encephalitis (meningo) in Med ford, one case of impetigo in Talent, two cases of influenza in Medford, and four cases of strep throat in Ashland. Other diseases reported were mumps, five in Trail, three in Medford, two in Eagle Point, and one in Ash land; and scarlet fever, one in Ashland and one in Central Point. - Chief sources of world sup ply of diamonds are India, South America and South Af rica.
