Mr. and Mrs. " Accidents Killing MarriageableMen Chicago (LTD The Na tional Safety Council says ac cidents are making it harder for a girl to catch a man. The council pointed out that although more male babies are born each year than females, in the 15 to 24 year age bracket men are be ing killed in accidents almost live times as fast as women. The safety organization ac knowledged that accidental deaths are not the only thing that keeps young ladies from leading a guy down the aisle, but claims the toll is no help to the orange blossom and rice business. Despite the masculine nu merical lead at birth, the council said, a recent estimate numbered about one and half million more women than men in the nation. "Men always have died at a faster rate than women, perhaps largely because of the more hazardous tasks they undertake and their chance taking nature," said the Coun cil. "But men, especially those in the 15-24 age group, are dying far, far too rapidly. "At this age when they are either thinking of getting married some day or counting the days till the big event, men are being killed In acci dents almost five times as fast as females." Statistics turned up these facts for the 15-24 age group: Accidents of all types take the lives of nearly five males for every female. More than eight out of ten traffic fatalities are men. Almost seven out of eight who die from other accidental causes are men. According to leader, Mrs. Mike Jacoby, people can learn a great deal from horses and the term "horse sense" is not just a baseless expression. Teaching youngsters to feed their horses properly, detect their need of medical treat ment and otherwise care for them gives a child a sense of responsibility, according to Mrs. Jacoby. Learning to han dle them, a young person learns to pit his wits against an adversary that can be both stubborn and unbelievably in telligent. Detect Danger A horse can detect dangers instinctively and will avoid bogs or spots where footing is uncertain, but may turn around and, through sheer devilment, brush a novice rider off on a low hanging limb. But the horse can be, and has been through many cen turies, a faithful servant to man, and learning to handle them is good training in pa tience, kindness and sports manship to anyone, Mrs. Ja coby said. Mrs. Jacoby disapproves of parents buying their child a horse and turning them loose without any guidance or training in handling of the animal. A good, gentle horse can be ruined in a few days by mistreatment, she said. The youngsters that belong to the Sage Riders club would not think of over-watering their mounts when they are heated or "duding" (running them) on a hard surfaced road. Join Horse Club Her recommendation is that a child (or adult) that has be come a horse owner for the first time should join a horse club or otherwise learn from an accomplished horsernart how to care for the animal. The Sage Riders, like other horse clubs, learn to ride their horses in various parade and arena maneuvers, and in dividuals train their horses to do tricks, in addition to New Incinerator Cuts Pollution Los Angeles (UPD A new smokeless, odorless indoor in cinerator is on the market. Club Teaches becoming accomplished riders. Mr. and Mrs. Jacoby, who came to the Rogue River val ley only recently from the state of Washington, have worked with horses and rid ing groups for both adults and children for many years. They make their home at Jackson Hot Springs. There is no fee to join the Sage Riders and the organiza tion is growing every day. Only last week the club took in three new members, mak ing a total membership of more than 30. The Jacobys see to it that horses are shod and treat the youngsters' horses when they are ill. They stand all of the expenses of running the club out of their own pocket. But, seeing children change their attitude about many things, and begin to take on "horse sense" is payment enough for the hours of work and cash outlay, they said.
