My own observations of nunareas of people studied for manv vears nine mnh statistical research, convinced me long ago that that even 140 mm. of systolic pressure found in a young man or woman shows that some trouble is likely to come later. The doctors were ahl to see what happened medi cally to those officers as they kept coming up for reexam ination each year during periods ranging in length up to a quarter of a century. Perhaps, as a result of this, in these 22,741 cases, the rate for disability retirement for diseases of the heart, blood vessels or kidneys was defin itely higher among the men wno had naa the early in crease in pressure than among those who hadn't had i Ut.n- I'JLj ' Rogue Forest Gets $2,813,361 in Funds Rogue River National for est received $2,792,808.25 in timber receipts for the fiscal year 1958, according to an an nouncement from the U.S. Forest Service. Receipts from grazing fees totalled $6,684.81, power re ceipts $216.67 and' land use receipts $13,651.53. Total re ceipts were $2,813,361.25. These figures were includ ed in a report on receipts from the national forests of the region amounted to over $46 million in the fiscal year 1958, according to Regional Forester J. Herbert Stone of the U.S. Forest Service. This is a drop from the $56,500,000 received during the previous fiscal year. Leading Forests The leading forests, accord ing to receipts, were Willam ette (Oregon) $8,264,083; Sius law (Oregon) $5,208,692; Gif ford Pinchot (Washington) $5,092,562; Olympic (Wash ington) $4,070,077; Mt. Hood (Oregon) $3,048,563; Mt. Bak er (Washington) $3,008,265; three other forests had re ceipts of between one and two million dollars. By law, 25 per cent pf the receipts from national forests is returned to the states for distribution to the counties in which the forests are situated in proportion to the acreage therein. The counties will share somewhat over $11,000, 000. The law earmarks the money returned to the coun ties for the benefit of public roads and schools. The five counties which re ceived the largest amounts from last year's receipts in Oregon were Lane, Douglas, Linn, Klamath and Clacka mas. In Washington the five leading counties were Ska mania, Jefferson, Lewis, Whatcom and Clallam. Stone said, "In addition to the money that is retained in the federal treasury and that returned to local govern ments, the national forests contribute to the local wel fare through investments and permanent improvements; payrolls, other expenditures, and through furnishing such vital resources as water, rec reation and wildlife."
