Local and Accident An unidentified person drove o'er the lawn at 160 South Amy st., .Cen tral Point, Wednesday morn- ing, Seldon Hill told police. Picnic Sunday Members of the Rogue Valley Council of the Knights of Columbus will hold their annual picnic Sunday, Aug. 3 in Lithia park, Ashland. The picnic will start at 1 p.m. and games for the children will follow. Coffee, ice cream and cold drinks will be furnished. ' Grass Fire Ashland fire men were called to the 200 block of Granite st., Ashland, to extinguish a grass fire Wednesday morning. Firemen speculated that a number of glass jars sitting in the sun light served as magnifying glasses and the resultant heat started the fire. In addition to some burned grass and brush, the side of a juice house was blackened. Sunday Picnic Oregon gon State Employees associa tion chapters of southern Ore gon will - hold- their annual picnic at Union Creek on Sun day, Aug. 3. A potluck dinner will be served at noon. Mem bers and families from Klam ath, Lake, Josephine and Jack son counties will attend. Cra ter Lake chapter No. 16 is host. There will be entertain ment for youngsters. Picnic Set The Telephone Employees Activity associa tion will hold its annual pot luck picnic at McKee brdge Sunday, Aug. 3. Cold drinks and coffee and ice cream will be furnished. The picnic starts at 10 a.m., and con tinues until dark. Lunch time is set at 1 p.m. All telephone employees and their friends from Medford, Grants Pass and Klamath Falls areas are invited. Reserve Picnic The Crater Lake branch of the Fleet Re serve association will hold its annual picnic Sunday, Aug. 3 at TouVelle park beginning at 10 a.m. The picnic will be a joint activity with the Medford and Grants Pass branches of the association participating. Members of the Navy or Ma rine Corps on active duty or retired are invited to attend. Additional information may be obtained by calling NOrmandy 4-2406. : Trash Fires City firemen put out a trash fire in the 1000 block of West Ninth st. yester day evening after receiving a complaint. The fire was burn ing in prohibited hours and no permit had been obtained, firemen maintained. Another complaint on a fire in the 1300 block of East Main st. was re ceived yesterday morning. It was allowed to continue when investigation showed the burning being done with care with no hazard involved. Patrolmen Called Patrol men of the Southwest district of the state department of forestry were called on three fires yesterday afternoon. They said that a blaze of less Ihan one-tenth acre occurred on a logging operation in the Trail creek area. Sparks from a tread tractor were the cause. A two-acre grass fire was re ported at Emigrant -dam but the cause was not listed. A fire thought to have been caused by a smoker broke out in grass and brush near Mer lin. Aluminum issues showed gains ranging to two points in Alcoa which initiated a 710th cent a pound rise in aluminum last night. Reynolds Metals followed and other producers were expected to get into line.
