' Grass Fire Ashland fire
men were called to the 200
block of Granite st., Ashland,
to extinguish a grass fire
Wednesday morning. Firemen
speculated that a number of
glass jars sitting in the sun
light served as magnifying
glasses and the resultant heat
started the fire. In addition to
some burned grass and brush,
the side of a juice house was
blackened.

: Trash Fires City firemen
put out a trash fire in the 1000
block of West Ninth st. yester
day evening after receiving a
complaint. The fire was burn
ing in prohibited hours and
no permit had been obtained,
firemen maintained. Another
complaint on a fire in the 1300
block of East Main st. was re
ceived yesterday morning. It
was allowed to continue when
investigation showed the
burning being done with care
with no hazard involved.
Patrolmen Called Patrol
men of the Southwest district
of the state department of
forestry were called on three
fires yesterday afternoon.
They said that a blaze of less
Ihan one-tenth acre occurred
on a logging operation in the
Trail creek area. Sparks from
a tread tractor were the cause.
A two-acre grass fire was re
ported at Emigrant -dam but
the cause was not listed. A
fire thought to have been
caused by a smoker broke out
in grass and brush near Mer

gains ranging to two points
in Alcoa which initiated a

aluminum last night. Reynolds

spear melons were offered on the
market today, selling to S2.25 a

trude Selberg, Mcloud, Calif.
Funeral services will be
held Aug. 2 at 10:30 a.m. at
Litwiller's Mountain View
chapel. Entombment will be
at the Rest Haven Mausoleum.
