Gasch, whose office would handle the case, told United Press International prosecu tion of a "hard-fought con tempt of Congress citation in two yiars is considered good." The House 'Commerce Com mittee scheduled a vote "today on the citation against Presi dential Assistant Sherman Adams gjft-giving friend 48 hours after the influence invtigting sub committee recommended it 8-0. Hous Could Voi If approved by the commit tee as expected, the House could vote on the citation at any time and forward it to Gasch for prosecution. Sub committee members have pre dicted swift, overwhelming House approval. Meantime the House armed services investigating subcom mittee called a closed meeting today to decide whether to hold public hearings or just issue a report on its secret in quiry into the Adams-Ray-laine case. Adams allegedly attempted to influence the Pentagon in its decision to re fund a $4,284 penalty to Kay laine Worsteds, Inc., of Man chester, N. H. The White House has denied any influ ence attempt by Adams. Blaze Destroys Barn at Albany Albany (DPD A spectac ular fire swept through a big barn on the outskirts of Al bany during the noon hour Wednesday ewhile a farmer and his wife sat eating lunch in their home only 200 feet away. - A passing neighbor saw the flames leaping from the barn ' of Jesse Griese and drove into the yard to alert Grieser and tis wife. Grieser and the neighbor chased several cows from the barn and managed to remove come equipment before the blaze leveled the 80xl50-foot dairy barn. Heat was so intense from the fire that the Albany fire men could get no closer than 50 feet when they were called to the scene by Mrs. Grieser, Grieser estimated the loss . at $20,000 to $25,000. Destroy ed with the barn were 1,300 bales of hay and some farm ing equipment. An adjoining milk shed and milk machin ery were also lost. Silage in two large concrete silos was also damaged by the Intense heat and flames. Grieser said the blaze may have been caused by a spark from machinery that failed to flame up until he had gone into the house to eat. Crippled Plane In Safe Landing Los Angeles (UPS A Pan American Airways Strato- cruiser carrying 58 persons landed safely at Los Angeles International Airport today after reporting a crippled en gine as it neared the mainland from Honolulu. The big passenger aircraft put down without incident at 7:16 ajn. (PST) with a Coast Goard flying boat hovering nearby. The escort craft was re quested when Pilot Capt. G. Langston feathered the No. 3 engine at 5:15 a.m. 300 miles at sea w'est of Santa Barbara, ' Calif. 0 The plane, according to ra dioed reports, sprang an oil leak ify the engine and Capt. Langston cut its power as a "routine precautionary mea sure" o : Cities May Compel Exhaust Fume Control New York 0IPD Many control the exhaust fumes of their automobiles within the next few years, an air pollu tion expert said Wednesday.
