Dr. nd Mrs. Roberts were married earl ier this month and Mrs. Rob erts is the former Emily Young Anderson of the Plaza apartments. During the meeting 60 members learned the hymn "How Great Thou Art"' and other mor fhmilir hymns. One of th ons, "Love's Old Sv&&. Song," was sung y the group for Dr. and "TMrs. Roberts. Miss Collins, a 1958 gradu ate of Crater High school, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dale S. Collins, Gold Hill. While in school she worked on the newspaper staff, the annual staff, was a member of Quill and Scroll, Torch Honor society, Pep Club and the school band. She was vice president of Girls' league dur ing her senior year. She is also a member of Job's Daughters and the Junior Grange. She is a member of the Christian Science church of Gold Hill and attended its church school during her school years. Miss Collins plans to be come an elementary teacher following her graduation from college. Riley Cook, chairman of the scholarship committee of the ' Elk Lumber company, points out that scholarships are still available to both Lewis and Clark college and Willamette university, up to the time of opening of the schools in the fall. Bowers Family Here for Visit Recent visitors in Medford were Mr. and Mrs. Donald M. Bowers and children, Don, Lareen and Forrest, of Dal-i las, Ore., and Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Bowers and granddaugh ters, Sandra, Debra, and Clau dia Gordon of Yuba, Calif. They visited in the home of Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Bowers, 48 Rose avenue, and with E. S. Bowers and family, 1312'Beat ty street, and Mr. and Mrs. C. V. Bowers, Central Point. Donald Bowers, E. F. Bow ers, E. S. Bowers, and C. V. Bowers are sons of the D. W. Bowers. While in the valley Mr. and Mrs. Donald Bowers attended the reunion of Medford High school class of 1953 at the Rogue" Valley Country club June 14. The bride is a daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Thorn ton S. Gapen, and the bride groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Brown, Lebanon, Ore. The bride's father officiated at the double ring candlelight ceremony held at 8:30 o'clock in the evening. Mock orange blossoms, pink snapdragons and peace roses decorated the church for the ceremony. John Hubbard, Santa Barbara, Calif., uncle of the bride, sang three se lections, accompanied by Mrs. Norval Moore. Mrs. Stanley Ellisen, Port land, aunt of the bride, was the honor attendant, while Miss Mirian Gapen, sister of the bride and Miss Barbara O'ffill, Grants Pass, were bridesmaids. Marilyn Gapen, younger sister of the bride, was flower girl The attendants wore chapel length gowns of pink taffeta with overskirts of nylon net. They carried pink carnations and stephanotis. Stanley Ellisen, Portland, served as best man, while Ronald Entriken and George Brown seated the guests, The mother of the ; bride wore a street length bolero dress of figured powder" blue nylon with black accessories and a corsage of pink be gonias. The bridegroom's mother wore a street length dress of rose lace with a pink begonia corsage. Following fhe ceremony a reception was held at the Applegate school for 150 rela tives and friends. Mrs. Fred Nelson ' cut and served the wedding - cake while Mrs. Emerson Wilkin ' and Mrs. Gwen Rollins poured. J?he Misses Scharlene Powers and Julia Browni were at the gift table. Miss ' Barbara Selby, cousin of the bridegroom, was in charge of the guest book. Following a wedding trip to Lebanon, Ore., "the couple will ; make their home ' in Santa ' Barbara where Mr, Brown will teach. , 4 Pupils Present Piano Recital The piano students of Mrs. Richard Schuchard held their annual summer recital at the Schuchard home Wednesdays, June 11, in the evening. Participating in the pro gram were Carole Crenshaw, Linda Pickell, Sue Walker, Michael Gannon, Sharon Dixon,. Martha Dixon, Linda Nelson, Druan Draff, Sandra Gannon, Rena .Brew, Donna King, Connie King, Nancy Duncan, Pamela Miller, Jean Miller, Marilyn Lathrop, Lin da Beardsley,' Martha . Stiek, Sandra Myers, Mary and Frank Schuchard. Carole Coenshaw played while the guests assembled and sang later in the . pro gram. Gary Christenson also sang. . Special guests were Mrs. E. E. Gore, who has taught in Medford for many years, and Mrs. Charles Freeman, who recently opened a studio in her home. In July advanced students in voice and piano will pre sent a recital with Mrs. Free man as guest performer. During the next school year Mrs. Freeman and Mrs. Schu chard will hold monthly workshops and reqtals for their students. Honored Mrs. Ray Lester was hon ored June 12 by a layette shower at the home of Mrs. Bob Perdue, 706 Victory street. Hostesses for the event were Mrs. Perdue and Mrs. Dorothy Huff, mother of Mrs. Lester. Twenty-six friends attend ed the event. Medforcl BPW Club" Holds Annual Dinner, Ceremony Meeting Canceled For Herb Society A meeting of Rogue Valley Herb society planned for Tuesday, June 24, at the home of Mrs. O. E. Henderson, Eagle Point, has been can celled, it was announced Saturday. Mrs. Jean Mast was instal led president of Medford Busi ness and Professional Wom en's club in ceremonies held June 19 at the Rogue room in the Medford hotel. Also installed were Mrs. Nell Faulkner, first vice-president; Mrs. Lola Milhoan, sec ond vice-president; Mrs. Ruth Simmons, recording secretary; Mrs. Kay Kohler, correspond ing secretary; Mrs. Anne Palmer, treasurer; Mrs. Gert rude Blind, auditor; and Mrs. Muriel Preston, Miss Viola Dietrich, Mrs. Harriet Watson and Miss Voda Brower, direct ors. Mrs. Bertha Pree, club pres ident for 1951-1952, was in stalling officer. The ceremonies were held following a dinner meeting. Present for the occasion were more than 50 members and guests including five members of the Grants Pass club and seven members from Ashland. Following the installation of officers Mrs. Mast announced her committee chairman for the year. They included Miss Peggyann Hutchinson, career advancement; Mrs. Edith Bak er, emblem; Mrs. Milhoan, fin ance; Mrs. Mildred Luschen, health and safety; Mrs. Marie Dwyer, hospitality; Mrs. Koh ler, international relations; Mrs. Thelma Mclntyre, legis lation; Mrs. Ellen Lynner, membership; Mrs. Anita Sam ple, national security; Mrs. Janis Browne, project; Mrs. Norma Burroughs, public af fairs; Mrs. Inez Friel, public relations; and Mrs. Nell Faulk ner, program coordinator. The club presented Mrs. Mast with a red carnation cor sage" and Miss Brower with a past president's pin and a gift. At the close of the meeting Miss Brower was "initiated" into the past president's group by Mrs. Watson, Mrs. Pree, Mrs. Florence Lance, and Miss Laura York, all former presi dents of the group. Theme for the decorations was careers and vacations with the place cards depicting various areas for vacationers. Sea shells, rocks, and flowers arranged with driftwood were on the tables. Yellow and red roses were at the table where the members of the board were seated. The decorations were by Mrs. Watson, Mrs. Faulkner, Mrs. Muriel Short- rige and Miss Hutchinson. 4 Kadosh Council To Hold Election Medford Council of Kadosh, of Scottish Rite Freemasonry, will elect officers for the en suing year ' when it meets Monday, June 23, at 8 p.m. in tiie Masonic temple. Com mander Lloyd E. Hamlin will preside at the stated meeting and conduct the balloting. Following the council meet ing, Venerable Master Carl H. W. Oestreich will officiate for a stated meeting of Med ford Consistory. Mr. Oest reich will give a talk- on the "Rites of Mithra." This will be the last meet ing of the Scottish Rite bodies until the fall sessions begin in September. Charter Luncheon Planned by Club Travel Study club will hold a charter luncheon Tuesday, June 24, at 12 noon in the home of Mrs. Vera Backstrom Hausmann, 14 Hawthorne ave nue. This newly organized club plans to meet once a month this summer, with fall activities to begin in Septem ber. . . For Tuesday's meeting Mrs. Hausmann has planned a pro gram on "Travel Through tho Mojave Desert." Members are asked to con-' tact Mrs. Clay M.
