Winner of
Scholarship
A S3 00 scholarshiu to Lewis
and Clark college has been
awarded to Miss Gail Anne
Collins, Gold Hill.
Miss Collins, a 1958 gradu
ate of Crater High school, is
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Dale S. Collins, Gold Hill.
While in school she worked
on the newspaper staff, the
annual staff, was a member of
Quill and Scroll, Torch Honor
society, Pep Club and the
school band. She was vice
president of Girls' league dur
ing her senior year. She is also
a member of Job's Daughters
and the Junior Grange.
She is a member of the
Christian Science church of
Gold Hill and attended its
church school during her
school years.
Miss Collins plans to be
come an elementary teacher
following her graduation from
college.
Riley Cook, chairman of
the scholarship committee of
the ' Elk Lumber company,
points out that scholarships
are still available to both
Lewis and Clark college and
Willamette university, up to
the time of opening of the
schools in the fall.

13. The bride is a daughter
of the Rev. and Mrs. Thorn
ton S. Gapen, and the bride
groom is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Vernon Brown, Lebanon,
Ore.
The bride's father officiated
at the double ring candlelight
ceremony held at 8:30 o'clock
in the evening.
Mock orange blossoms,
pink snapdragons and peace
roses decorated the church for
the ceremony. John Hubbard,
Santa Barbara, Calif., uncle
of the bride, sang three se
lections, accompanied by Mrs.
Norval Moore.
The bride wore a floor
length gown of blush pink
satin and nylon tulle, and car
ried a bouquet of pink roses

gonias. The bridegroom's

Following fhe ceremony a
reception was held at the
Applegate school for 150 rela
tives and friends. Mrs. Fred
Nelson ' cut and served the
wedding - cake while Mrs.
Emerson Wilkin ' and Mrs.
Gwen Rollins poured. J?he

Julia Browni were at the gift
table. Miss ' Barbara Selby,
cousin of the bridegroom, was
in charge of the guest book.
Following a wedding trip
to Lebanon, Ore., "the couple
will ; make their home ' in

man as guest performer.
During the next school year
Mrs. Freeman and Mrs. Schu
chard will hold monthly
workshops and reqtals for
their students.

ored June 12 by a layette
shower at the home of Mrs.

following a dinner meeting.

officers Mrs. Mast announced

Laura York, all former presi
dents of the group.
Theme for the decorations
was careers and vacations
with the place cards depicting
various areas for vacationers.
Sea shells, rocks, and flowers
arranged with driftwood were
on the tables. Yellow and red
roses were at the table where
the members of the board
were seated. The decorations
were by Mrs. Watson, Mrs.
Faulkner, Mrs. Muriel Short-
rige and Miss Hutchinson.

To Hold Election
Medford Council of Kadosh,
of Scottish Rite Freemasonry,
will elect officers for the en
suing year ' when it meets
Monday, June 23, at 8 p.m. in
tiie Masonic temple. Com
mander Lloyd E. Hamlin will
preside at the stated meeting
and conduct the balloting.
Following the council meet
ing, Venerable Master Carl H.
W. Oestreich will officiate
for a stated meeting of Med
ford Consistory. Mr. Oest
reich will give a talk- on the
"Rites of Mithra."
This will be the last meet
ing of the Scottish Rite bodies
until the fall sessions begin in
September.
Charter Luncheon Planned by Club
Travel Study club will hold
a charter luncheon Tuesday,
June 24, at 12 noon in the
home of Mrs. Vera Backstrom
Hausmann, 14 Hawthorne ave
nue. This newly organized
club plans to meet once a
month this summer, with fall
activities to begin in Septem
ber. . .
For Tuesday's meeting Mrs.
Hausmann has planned a pro
gram on "Travel Through tho
Mojave Desert."
