William Wendell Bateman (Brainerd pholo) Cefi?af Point Couple Wed In Presbyterian Ceremony Central Point Miss Max- ine Wallena Day became the bride of "William Wendell Bateman in g$ ceremony held Friday, June 13, t First Presbyterii church in Med ford. About 100 guests vere present for the evtninj atrv- ice. The bride is e daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Grant R. Day, Central PjOintand Mr. Bate man is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Bateman, Hanley road. The Rev. John Reynolds read the single-ring marriage vows, and Mr. Day gave his daughter in marriage. Mrs. H. E. Marsh was at the church organ and Miss Kay Johnson sang. The bride wore a gown of white lace and net ruffles with three - quarter length sleeves. Her finger-tip length Captain, Family Visit in Medford Capt. and Mrs. Gene C. Rae and daughters, Becky and Cathy, of Dugway, Utah, visit ed in Medford last week at the home of Captain Rae's mother, Mrs. Selma Rae, 819 Bennett street0 While there they qBo visited his sister, Mrs. Vera Funk and a brother, Robert E. Rae and , family. The family arrived here to attend the 1943 class reunion held June 14. Prior to returning to their home they plan to visit in Anaheim, Calif, where Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Casperson, sis ter and brother-in-law of Cap tain Rae, live. veil was held by a tiara, and she carried white carnations on a white Bible. Miss Rita Bateman, sister of the bridegroom, was maid of honor, and bridesmaids were Miss Nancy and Miss Charlotte Green, cousins of the bride, Miss Ruth Day, a sister and Miss Linda Bate man, sister of the bridegroom. Their taffeta sheath dresses were in pastel shades and they carried Ester Reed dais ies dyed to match their frocks. Robert Johnson was best man and ushers were Roscoe Day, Central Point, William Callender, Robert Walker and James Johnson, all Med ford. The church was decorated in daisies, delphinium and white gladiolus; Red and white carnations decorated the reception room. Mrs. Edith Pitts, the bride's grand mother, cut the wedding cake and Mrs. Charles Green, San Francisco, aunt of the bride, served punch. Mrs. . Claude Mclntyre assisted. The Misses Rita and Linda Bateman,. sis ters of the bridegroom, took charge of the guest book. Mr. 'Bateman and his bride spent their honeymoon at the Oregon Caves resort and will live at 488 North Pacific highway, Central Point. The bride attended Central Point schools and Crater High school. Mr. Bateman attend ed Medford schools and is employed by Donna Timber company. The bridegroom has lived in the valley his entire life. California Is Home of Newlyweds Phoenix Mr. and Mrs. Jesse H. Guyton, who were married June 2, are making their home at 2814 D street, Sacramento, Calif. The bride is the former Kathleen Heard, daughter ot Mr. and Mrs. Cecil C. Heard, Route 3, Phoe nix, and the bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Guy ton, 3890 Laurel lane. The ceremony was held at First Presbyterian church in Phoenix, with the Rev. Wil liam A. Saladin reading the vows at 8 o'clock in the eve ning. About 75 guests were present. Mr. Heard gave his daugh ter in marriage. She wore a gown of white net over slip per satin with finger-tip length veil and carried white carnations centered with an orchid. Mrs. Robert Ball, sister of the bridegroom, was her at tendant. Mrs. Ball wore a gown of pastel yellow nylon voile and carried pink and white carnations. Diane and Louise Lehman, nieces of the bridegroom, were flower girls, and the candlelighters were Gay Howe, cousin of the bride, and Virginia Heard, a sister. Miss Howe wore a pink nylon frock and Miss Heard's gown was blue nylon. Ushers were Laverne Fran cis Wood, Del Paso Heights, Calif., cousin of the bride groom, and Don Lee Heard, brother of the bride. Miss R a d i n e Chisholm played the wedding march and" Mrs. Dennis Whitcher sang. The reception which fol lowed was in the church Fire side room. Mrs. Thelma Howe, aunt of the bride, and Miss Sandra Gibbel cut and served the wedding cake. The Misses Helen deCarlow and Ruth Hunter served punch and Miss Diane Franklin and Mrs. Itha Johnson, aunt of the bride, took charge of the gifts. Mrs. James Lehman, sister of the bridegroom, took charge of the guest book. The newlyweds traveled to California for their wed ding trip, the bride wearing a pink and white suit witn white accessories ana the or chid from her bride's bou quei. The bride, a graduate of Medford High school, has been a bookkeeper for Fluhr-J er oaKeries. Main Phone SP 2-8992 Betrothal News Announced At Chi Omega Party Announcement of the en gagement of Miss Virginia Ruth Jarvis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Grant Jarvis, Hood River, Ore., to W. David Whisenant II, son of Mrs. J. A. Hammond, San Francisco, and the late W. D. Whisenant of Los Gatos, Calif., was made June 9 at the Chi Ome ga sorority house at the Uni versity of Oregon. Center of toe decorations for the engagement party, which was a special candel light ceremony of the sorority, was a large white cake trim med with purple hearts and white roses. White gladioli and candles . completed the decorations. Mrs. Grant Jarvis was in Eugene for the affair. A 1954 graduate of Hood River High school, the bride elect was graduated from the University of Oregon June 15. She majored in sociology and is a member of Chi Ome ga sorority. Her fiance was graduated from the Medford High school in 1952, and at tended the University of Ore eon where he is affiliated with Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. He is presently stationed at Fort Monmouth, N, J. with the Army Signal corps. He will return to the university for further study in the fall of 1959. He is a nephew of Miss Delie Whisenant, 418 Arcadia court, with whom he makes his home. . Mr. and Mn. Kenneth M. Piland (Cunningham photo) Piland -Gray Ceremony Of Interest in Medford A wedding of interest to friends m Medford was held recently in Spokane, Wash., when Miss Judy Irene Gray of that city became the bride of Kenneth M. Piland, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford M. Pi land, formerly of Medford and now of The Dalles, Ore. The ceremony was held Sun day, June 15, at Millwood Community Presbyterian church at three o'clock in the afternoon with the Rev. Roy E. Howes officiating. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Max Gray. Mrs. Jerry Naimy played the traditional organ wedding music and Miss Marilyn Legge was soloist. White gladioli and pink carnations in baskets and pink candles decorated the church for the event. The bride wore a white chantilly lace and nylon tulle gown fashioned with lace bod ice and bouffant tulle skirt. The Sabrina neckline was trimmed with iridescent se quins and a lace peplum ex tended into a cliapel length train. Her fingertip length veil of silk illusion was held by a crown of iridescent se quins and lace. She carried a shower bouquet of white carnations and lily of the val ley with pink rosebuds. Mr. Gray gave his daughter in marriage. Miss Paula Maurer was maid of honor and, brides maids were Miss Sharon Tay lor, Miss Nancy' Gray, Miss Sandra Thorson and Miss Mar garet Wright. They wore pink taffeta frocks with lace bod ices and bouffant skirts with matching headdresses trimmed with pearls. They carried nosegay bouquets of pink rosebuds and white lace. Diane Falland was flower girl and Spencer Andrews was ring bearer. Candlelighters were Jerry Piland and Paul Gray. Charles Cochran served as best man while Lynn Rouma goux, Jack Scribner, Robert Boehmke and Douglas Dona ca seated the guests. .Following the ceremony a reception was held in the church parlors. Miss Esther McDale presided at the punch bowl, Mrs. Percy Achre and Mrs. Walter Juul, cut and served the wedding cake, and Mrs. Joe McCloskey poured the coffee. Miss Martha Kim bill was in charge of the recep tion. Miss Carol Wolff was in charge of the guest book and Miss Rosalie Adkins, Mrs. Harry McVay, Mrs. Jim Ma guire . and Mrs." Al Dobbins were at the gift tables. Miss Mary McVay played piano se lections during the reception. The newlywed couple will make their home at 1859 SW Tenth ,street, Portland when they return from a wedding trip to Seattle, Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia. For her traveling attire the Hillsboro Ceremony Weds Pair- Eagle Point Miss Ruth Elizabeth Dobra, daughter of Mr. and' Mrs. John Dobra, Hillsboro, Ore., became the bride of Russell Rodney Rags dale, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Ragsdale, Eagle Point, in a ceremony held Saturday, June 14, in the First Baptist church, Hillsboro. The Rev. Kenneth Grafham officiated at the eight o'clock evening wedding. White and pink flowers decorated the church for the' ceremony. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a nylon tulle over satin gown fash ioned with a lace overlay. Her fingertip length veil fell from a crown of pearls and she carried a cascade bouquet of white roses. Mrs. Evelyn Gallaway was honor attendant for her sister and Miss Camille Jamison, Vancouver, Wash., and Miss Carla Ragsdale, Eagle Point,, sister of the bridegroom, were bridesmaids. Miss Lorie John son was flower girl. They wore frocks of white dotted Swiss over pink taffeta and, carried cascade bouquets of pink roses. Arlen Ragsdale served as best man for his brother while Louis Dobra, Portland, broth er of the bride, and Albert Eaton, Eagle Point, seated the guests. Following the ceremony a reception was held in the church. The newlywed couple will make their home in Eagle Point following their return June 26 from 'a wedding trip to the Oregon coast. For her traveling attire the bride wore a pink linen suit with white accessories. The bride attended Hills boro Union High school, Mult nomah Bible school, and is a student at Southern Oregon college. Mr. Ragsdale is also a student at Southern Oregon college. Grandmother Club Announces Meeting The Grandmother club will meet-Monday, June 23, at the Girls Community club at 1:30 p.m. Hostesses will be Mrs. E. P. King, Mrs. Nora Strauss, Mrs. O. L. Gaston and Mrs Arian, Yockum. bride wore a white, cotton sheath dress with turquoise jacket and matching acces sories. Both the bride and bride groom are students, at Lewis and Clark college; the bride will be a junior next year and Mr. Piland a senior. Mr. Pi land was graduated from Med ford High school and during his 'student days was master councilor of Medford DeMo lay and also head of the state DeMolay organization. Visitors Leave For Home Friday Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fleen er, their daughter, Mrs. James Goates, and Mrs. Goates' two children, Jimmy and Barbara, of Watsonville, Calif., left for their homes Friday after hav ing been guests here of Mr. Fleener's cousins. They are Mr. and ,Mrs. Ernest Santo, 204 Lozier lane, and Elzo San to, 616 Ivy street. It was the first time in 54 years that the cousins had been together. The Fleeners were early settlers in south ern Oregon, Mr. Fleener's grandfather, Samuel, having come across the plains to Ore gon in 1853. While the Calif ornians were here, the Fleeners and the Santo families made a trip to 4th of July and Vacation Fun!
