Display at Library Centers on National Youth Fitness Week In observance of National Youth Fitness Week, June 1-7, the Medford Public library is this week displaying a spe cial selection of books which offer assistance to those work ing to promote the fitness of children and young people. Included in the display are books to assist in deyeloping the physical well-being of our children, such as "Feeding Your Baby and Child," by Dr. Benjamin Spock and Mir iam E. Lowenberg, a book which provides the reader with basic facts on modern baby and child feeding. Other books concerned with the phy sical health of children are "Food for the Family," by Jennie S. Wilmot and Mar garet Q. Batjer and "Home Health and Nursing," by Alma Long. Hints on having fun with the children are offered in a book entitled "Have Fun With Your Children," by television favorite Miss Francis Hor wich; Arnold Arnold offers other suggestions in "How to Play With Your Child.'.' Writ ten for young people in their teens is "Living Together in the Family," by Lemo Dennis; but its material on family re lationships is valuable to read ers of all ages. Books on the mental and emotional development of young people are even more numerous than those treating of physical well-being. A fa vorite title is "The Parents Handbook," by Allan From me, "an encyclopedia devoted to the eniotional problems of children's growth, with prac tical suggestions on under standing, anticipating and solving them." Sawn, of Englewood, Fla., have been touring the northwest on a rock hunting trip and stopped over at the VA domiciliary this week to meet members of the Camp White Rock club, which has an assorted collection of agates and othervarieties of rocks collected in the Rogue valley region. Sawn creates silver mount ings for his atones and con ferred with- Stan Sears, of arts and crafts, regarding this phase of metal craft and gem work. Jacksonville Boy Scout Troop 35 held an Eagle Court of Honor May 13. Don Wendt, troop committee chairman, re ceived Eagle badge, the high est Scouting award, which wet presented by Harry Bar neburg of Medford. Wendt'a metier, Mr. George Wendt, was presented a mother's miniature Eagle pin by Council President J. A. McDougall. McDougall also spqke on the role of Scout mothers in helping boys ad vance in Scouting. Merit COMPOSER DIES New York (UPI) Maude Nugent, composer of '"'Sweet Rosie O'Grady," and a host of gther popular songs died at her home here early Tuesday -at .the age of 85. She Sang and danced in vaude ville, jevues and shows for a number of years. In 1943, a movie based on her "Sweet Roaie O'Grady," song was produced. Miss Nugent a peared "in recent years on Ed Sullivan's TV program. Mr. and Mrs. Joe B, Berri men have received word from their son-in-law and daugh ter, Sgt. and Mrs. Richard Roberts, who have been sta tioned in Augsburg, Germany, that they expect to be home the latter part of July or in August. Fred Buehlin's sixth grade class of 31 students made a recent trip to Ashland park for an end-of-the-school-term picnic, each student taking a sack lunch. Albert, 304 South Peach st., has been named 1958 winner of the KMED scholarship of $180, according. to Ray John son, station general manager. Albert, who plans to at tend the University of Ore gon, is a senior at Medford High school and has lived here all his life. He has participated in all sports, and in music and stu dent government. Last year he was business manager of the student body and mayor in the Elks student govern ment day program. The award is the seventh KMED scholarship' since 1951. It is made on the basis of need, scholarship, citizenship character and intention to at tend a member school of the Oregon system of higher ed ucation. Robert Bright was last year's winner.
