Sport Parade By OSCAR FRALEY Sport Writer United Press BY OSCAR FRALEY New York (UPI) John Sholto Douglas, the eighth Marquis of Queensberry, must be reeling in his spectral ring side seat today as result of a one-two punch tossed by Fritzie Zivic and Willie (the JJeard) Gilzenberg. The Marquis was the fight buff who helped rewrite the rules of the ring back in 1867. VLVIIU IV Bout Won By Moore San Francisco UPI Archie Moore, fighting main ly as if he had one hand tied fcehind him, used punishing left jabs Monday night to ack out a dull 10-round de vision over bloody Charlie JVorkus before a dissatisfied crowd of about 3,500. Moore, who used Norkus s a sparring partner for about half the time and punch ing bag for the other, weighed 196 to the New Yorker's 193. Archie's weight was 21 pounds over the limit of the light heavyweight class which he rules. Norkus showed plenty of Courage, but Moore had too many guns for the ex-Marine io took a solid beating about thi face while constantly bor ing in and trying to get over n good punch. Norkus bled from the nose and tired badly from the seventh round on. Judge Frankie Carter saw It for Moore 100-86, judge Eddie James 100-85 and ref eree Jack Downey 100-89. On the UPI card it was 100-92. ' DEPORTATION DELAYED Jerusalem (UPI The Is raeli high court has ordered an indefinite delay in the de portation of William Jacobs, 34, who is wanted in the Unit ed States as a fugitive from prison. The court called on the police Monday to show cause why Jacob's depqrta etion should not be annulled or delayed until he can get permission to enter another country. Jacobs, who arrived here about a year ago with a Moroccan passport identifying him as David Bensitreet, is being held in Ramie prison. Frohnmayer & Lowry Attorneys for executor Before that time, prize fight ers employed tactics which made alley fighting seem like a Newport tea. The Marquis sustained his first rabbit punch last week when Zivic, deploring the fact that he was recognized as "only" the second dirtiest fighter of all time, used an other ghost to pen a declara tion that the gloved gladiator of today has to fight far out side the rules to be a winner. j Willie Agree The coud de srace now is ; administered by Willie the Beard, so known because of a perpetual six o'clock shadow, nobody being able to get so unshaven by five. Willie sup ports Zivic's contention in a letter of advice to Vince Mar tinez, who engages Virgil Akins at St. Louis next week for the vacant welterweight championship. "What Zivic said is abso lutely the truth," the Beard alleges in a letter which he thoughtfully made public. "So don't forget there hasn't been a disqualification in a championship fight since Jack Sharkey lost to Max Schmel ing on a foul in 1930." Willie the Bard, almost as much as Zivic. should aualifv as an expert in the matter of boxing outside the boundary lines. Ciilzensberg once direct ed the fistic destiny of Two- ton lony Galento and it may be said without fear of libel, the man who was built like a barrel cared little for the niceties of life in or out of the ring. Willi Managed Cochrane Another inhabitant of the Gilzenberg stable was a red haired .broth of a boy named Freddie Red Cochrane. Thus it comes as no sur prise when Gilzenberg in forms Martinez that Cochrane won this same welterweight championship from, of all peo ple, Zivic, in a "strictly plan ned and calculated dirty fight." "One of Zivic's favorite foul tricks was to circle an opponent's neck with his left arm, pull him in close and hit him low with a right up percut," Gilzenberg relates. "Our strategy was to bump heads with Fritzie whenever he tried that trick. In round two, that night in 1941 at a Newark ball Dark. their heads came together like a couple of billiard balls," Willie adds. Fritzie, proud of his hard head, began to lose the fight right then. But in the fourth round we wrapped it up. I sent Cochrane out with in structions to hit Zivic delib erately below the belt. "I'll never forget Zivic admittedly the dirtiest fiehter of his era complaining to the reieree," Willie the Beard chuckles over his electric typewriter. It was "strategy," relates Gilzenberg, which won the title for Cochrane. And he suggests that Martinez take the lesson to heart. The Marquis must be hane- ing on those astral ropes. Shanks, the "stripper" who wants to be a, philoso pher, has been chosen valedic torian for the Phoenix college graduation class. Brown-haired, blue - eyed Miss Shanks, whose figure was good enough to earn her as much as S350 a week as a dancer in Chicago and other eastern points, plans to "real ly tell 'em something" in her June 4 speech. "I'm going to talk on 'the new religious attitude'," she said. "I will talk about stud ent dissatisfaction toward so ciety. I will point out that they created socity." The beauty, 32, came to Phoenix two years ago to fulfill her ambition of study ing philosophy. And then teach it. "I've wanted to be a phil osopher since I was 15," she said. "I used to work as a cafe waitress. And I got tired of looking at hungry people. 'So I decided to earn some money and get my degree." To prepare herself for her studies, Miss Shanks, who classifies herself as a mystic of transcenden'tialist bent, went into the desert 12 miles north of Santa -Fe, N.M., in 1953, living in an abandoned Indian cabin to be alone to meditate. After getting her associate of arts degree from Phoenix college, she plans to go on to nearby Arizona State col lege at Tempe, or perhaps some other school.
