a one-two punch tossed by
Fritzie Zivic and Willie (the
JJeard) Gilzenberg.
The Marquis was the fight
buff who helped rewrite the
rules of the ring back in 1867.

DEPORTATION DELAYED

an indefinite delay in the de
portation of William Jacobs,
34, who is wanted in the Unit
ed States as a fugitive from
prison. The court called on
the police Monday to show
cause why Jacob's depqrta
etion should not be annulled
or delayed until he can get
permission to enter another
country. Jacobs, who arrived
here about a year ago with a
Moroccan passport identifying
him as David Bensitreet, is
being held in Ramie prison.

won this same welterweight
championship from, of all peo
ple, Zivic, in a "strictly plan
ned and calculated dirty
fight."
"One of Zivic's favorite
foul tricks was to circle an
opponent's neck with his left
arm, pull him in close and
hit him low with a right up
percut," Gilzenberg relates.
"Our strategy was to bump
heads with Fritzie whenever
he tried that trick.

Gilzenberg, which won the
title for Cochrane. And he
suggests that Martinez take
the lesson to heart.
The Marquis must be hane-

Plant Closure Set

coma Reduction plant will be
closed June 1, Kaiser Alum
inum and Chemical corpora
te officials announced Mon
day. It had been announced
originally that the plant
would be inactivated May 1,
but the company has been
able to continue operations on
a temporary basis since that
date. However, inventories
and market conditions do not
warrant further continued op
eration, company officials
said.
Stripper Earns Way Through College;
To Talk Religion as Valedictorian

J. Shanks, the "stripper"
who wants to be a, philoso
pher, has been chosen valedic
torian for the Phoenix college
graduation class.
Brown-haired, blue - eyed
Miss Shanks, whose figure
was good enough to earn her
as much as S350 a week as a
dancer in Chicago and other
eastern points, plans to "real
ly tell 'em something" in her
June 4 speech.
"I'm going to talk on 'the
new religious attitude'," she
said. "I will talk about stud
ent dissatisfaction toward so

The beauty, 32, came to
Phoenix two years ago to
fulfill her ambition of study

of arts degree from Phoenix
college, she plans to go on
to nearby Arizona State col
lege at Tempe, or perhaps
some other school.
She turned down member
ship in the junior college's
honorary scholastic society be
cause she had neither time
Cholera Epidemic
Hits Bangkok
Bangkok, Thailand (UPI)
A cholera epidemic has hit
Bangkok, the government an
nounced today.
Dr. Sawat Daengsawang,
director general of the health
department, said 50 persons
had been admitted to hos
pitals and 10 had died in the
last three days.
The health department said
there was adequate vaccine
on hand to check the spread
of the disease.
