May is recruitment month for the Red Cross and a day of indoctrination will be held by the local chap ter Tuesday, May 27, at the Red Cross building. Interested persons should contact the local office. Above, Jennings Pierce, chairman of public information, labels a film con tained that will be distributed to various news media. News papers, televsion and the radio are used extensively to tell the story of Red Cross in Jackson county. Mr. Pierce, form erly of Los Angeles and San Francisco, is with Pierce Asso ciation here. Engaged 'in public relations work since 1924, Mr. Pierce takes an active part in many other civic and community affairs in addition to his Red Cross work. The dance will begin at 8 p.m. and those needing trans portation may take the bus at the Trailways bus depot at 7:30 p.m. Illinois Valley Club Honored At State Session Cave Junction The Illinois Valley Federated Women's club received an award and honorable- mention at the Oregon Federation of Wom en's clubs 43rd convention held May 7-9 in Salem. A club colleet framed in a hand-painted border was the award given the local chapter for. increasing the membership of the club. The collect was presented' to the delegates from the Illinois Valley at a banquet Friday night in the Marion hotel. Honorable mention was made of the local organiza tion for being one of the top 10 clubs to contribute the most money to the $6,002 raised by all the clubs during the past year for CARE, a principal p r o j e c t of the OFWC. Mrs. Walter Brown, Klam ath Falls, from this district is the new president.
