CAVIN Hilts Mr. and Mrs. Wil liam Wiley returned Dec. 20 from a month's vacation spent with relatives on a ranch near Anaconda, Mont., where Mrs. Wiley spent her childhood. The trip home took them to such points of interest as Zion National park in Utah, Las' Vegas and the Grand Canyon. After a brief visit into Mexico, they returned to their home near the Hornbrook Quarantine station, after visit ing relatives in southern Cali fornia. year and a half due to ijur ies received in an auto accr dent, has returned to his home here. Vieira has been fitted with a leg brace and is able to be up and around. Mr. and Mrs. James Cain and family, who have been living in Ashland for several months, have moved into the house formerly occupied by Mr. .and Mrs. Wayne Hall and family. Mr. Francis Givin was hon ored guest at a layette shower given the afternoon of Decem ber 19 at the home of Mrs. Don Wilcox. Cohostesses were Mrs. Frank Capello and Mrs. M. F. Cavin. Guests were Mrs. Pat Lynch, Mrs. Ray Vieira, Mrs. Italo Marin and Mrs. Roy Branum. Those unable to at tend but sending gifts were Mrs. Joe Vieira, Mrs. Bill Smith and Mrs. Schinier Ma rin. Refreshments of ice cream, cake and coffee were served. : Mr. and Mrs. Harry Burns and daughter recently return ed to their home after spend ing two weeks visiting with relatives in Riverside. . Also spending the two weeks holiday vacation ' with rela tives in Riverside were Mr. and Mrs. Vern Burns and family. Mr. and Mrs. Donivan Ward and family spent Christmas eve at the home of Mr. and Mrs. L. A. McCullough in Medford. On Christmas Day they had dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Everett El more in Hornbrook. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Dettmar sepnt the Christmas holiday at the home of Mrs. Dettmar's son and family, Mr. and Mrs Bill Covert. Christmas dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Vic tor Van de Weghe were Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Stickney and girls of Burlingame. Mr. and Mrs. Leland Stickney of Medford and Mrs. Anna Wolff of Central Point. Mrs. Wolff remained as their guest and will return to her home this weekend. ; Mr. and Mrs. Pete Leazer end family of Orick and R. L. Long of Areata were Christmas guests at the Joe Vieira home. '. Other holiday visitors were Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Rose of Areata, Calif. Home from Chico State col lege for the holiday vacation was Miss Cheryl Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Smith. Also home from Oregon State, college at Corvallis is Robert Black, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Black. Dinner guests Christmas day at the H. G. Thompson home were Miss Marlene Smith and Charles Hoyt, of Medford. On New Year's day Mr. and Mrs. Thompson and daughter, Marilyn, were din ner guests at Miss Smith's home in Medford. Hoyt was also a guest. - Christmas dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Spannaus were Mrs. Au drey Rease, Mrs. Frances Worth and Miss Angelle Spaulding, all of Ashland. Mrs. Rease and Mr. and Mrs. Spannaus visited with Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Morris in Oakland during the holidays. Morris is a brother of the two women. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Graves drove to Willows, where they were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Jorgenson and fam ily, on Christmas eve and morning. They then drove back to Ono, Shasta county, where they were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Philip York and son. New Year's day they had dinner with their third daugh ter, Mr. and Mrs. Babe De Avilla and family in Yreka. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ayris spent Christmas eve and day at the homes of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Sletten and family of Medford, and Mr. and Mrs. B. E. Brown and family of Gold Hill. Mrs. Sletten and Mrs. Brown are the Ayris' daughters. George Vieira, who has been hospitalized for the past Mr. and Mrs. Bob Ferguson and son were guests Christ mas Day at the home of Mrs. Ferguson's parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Gibson and family on Dead Indian road. where they were guests of Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Simmen. A Christmas guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Doug Whittaker and family was Mrs. Whittaker's mother, Mrs. Beryl Harlow of Gazelle. Holiday guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ozzie Bern heisel were Mr. and Mrs. Bob Goodwin and girls of Mon tague; Mike Bernheisel of Yreka; Shelley Bernheisel of Weed. Mr. and Mrs.' Frank Bern heisel and Nye Bernheisel of Medford were New Year's Day dinner guests. Guests at t he home of Mr. and Mrs. John Nunes during the holiday week were Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Brower and family and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Nunes and daughter, all of Yreka. Guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Johnson over the Christmas holiday were Lt. and Mrs. P. E. Vander burgh and children of Fair- child air base near Spokane, j Wash. Miss Jeri Johnson, who has been making her home in Spo kane returned with the Van-i derburghs and will attend i school in Yreka. I Also visiting a few days j with Jeri was Miss Diane ! Hardboard Mill Seen at Swisshome Washington (IP) A spokes man for an Oregon lumber firm said here today that fi nancing was virtually assured for a $2Vi million hardboard mill at Swisshome, Ore. Rep. Charles O. Porter CD Ore.) commented that the plant proposed by the Haskins Lumber Company would be a significant boost to the econ omy of the Swisshome area. The Haskins officials said hardboard markets have .re mained firm despite slumps in lumber sales. He said the 100-ton Swisshome mill would be the basis for coordinating all the scattered Haskins operations. Naval Bomber Smashes House Norfolk, Va. nP) Four charred bodies were removed Monday night and early today from a big Navy patrol bomb er that dropped "smack in the middle" of a two-story house in a beachside resort area. Twelve other persons were injured, two seriously, when the plane swooped over the rooftops of five other cottages late Monday,, scattering shin gles and debris in a wide area. Two of the eight creawmen were hospitalized in serious condition. A Navy investigating board was to be appointed today to try to determine what caused the plane to lose power as it approached the Norfolk Naval Air Station for a landing. It demolished the two-story home and two others were de stroyed by fire that broke out and flared up again during the night as firemen and Na val personnel cut into the tan gled wreckage. Only 20 feet of the plane's tail protruded from the house. Four civilians, including a teen-aged boy, were slightly hurt by the flying debris. One body was- recovered Monday night and three other crewmen were found early to day. The Navy said it was dif ficult or almost impossible to identify them and they would have to resort to dental charts for positive identification. He and his wife have ac quired a substantial block of stock in the Circle C Ranch, Inc., north of New Meadows, Corporation President Rollie Campbell disclosed. They said Sambek was one of six persons arrested on the charge. Four Children Die In Utah House Fire Moab, Utah (IP) Four chil dren, including twins, burned to death Monday night when fire leveled their frame home near this southeastern Utah uranium boom town. Parents of the youngsters, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Mc Gauhey, fled from the house in their night clothes and es caped with minor cuts and burns. On Christmas day, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Williams accom panied Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Par ker and family, who live near Ashland, to Yreka, where they were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Williams and daugh ter. They also visited with Mr. and Mrs. Del Bagley. On Sun day, callers at the Dick Wil liams home were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Rushton and family of Medford and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Fasolletti and son of Yreka. h Mr. and Mrs. Al Simmen and family drove to San Ra mon during the holiday week, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Gwin spent Christmas at the home of Mrs. Gwin's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Gaines, in Central Point. Guests Christmas day in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Audo mar DeClerck were Mr. and Mrs. Henry DeClerck Sr. and Mr. and Mrs. Henry DeClerck Jr. and family of Yreka. The Sunday school children of the Community church gave the Christmas program Sunday evening, Dec. 22, in the local church. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Branum and children were called to Fresno Friday due to the death of Branum's mother. The Hilts Community Christmas tree party was held the evening of Dec. 19 in the clubhouse.
