Couple Visit In Montana

Hilts Mr. and Mrs. Wil
liam Wiley returned Dec. 20
from a month's vacation spent
with relatives on a ranch near
Anaconda, Mont., where Mrs.
Wiley spent her childhood.
The trip home took them
to such points of interest as
Zion National park in Utah,
Las' Vegas and the Grand
Canyon.
After a brief visit into
Mexico, they returned to their
home near the Hornbrook
Quarantine station, after visit
ing relatives in southern Cali
fornia.

with a leg brace and is able to
be up and around.
Mr. and Mrs. James Cain
and family, who have been
living in Ashland for several
months, have moved into the

ored guest at a layette shower
given the afternoon of Decem
ber 19 at the home of Mrs.
Don Wilcox. Cohostesses were
Mrs. Frank Capello and Mrs.
M. F. Cavin. Guests were Mrs.
Pat Lynch, Mrs. Ray Vieira,
Mrs. Italo Marin and Mrs. Roy
Branum. Those unable to at
tend but sending gifts were
Mrs. Joe Vieira, Mrs. Bill
Smith and Mrs. Schinier Ma
rin. Refreshments of ice
cream, cake and coffee were
served.

ed to their home after spend
ing two weeks visiting with
relatives in Riverside.

and family spent Christmas
eve at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. L. A. McCullough in
Medford. On Christmas Day
they had dinner at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Everett El
more in Hornbrook.
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Dettmar
sepnt the Christmas holiday
at the home of Mrs. Dettmar's
son and family, Mr. and Mrs
Bill Covert.
Christmas dinner guests at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Vic
tor Van de Weghe were Mr.
and Mrs. Herbert Stickney
and girls of Burlingame. Mr.
and Mrs. Leland Stickney of
Medford and Mrs. Anna Wolff

Mrs. Wolff remained as
their guest and will return to
her home this weekend.

ily, on Christmas eve and
morning. They then drove
back to Ono, Shasta county,
where they were dinner
guests of Mr. and Mrs. Philip
York and son.
New Year's day they had
dinner with their third daugh
ter, Mr. and Mrs. Babe De
Avilla and family in Yreka.

spent Christmas eve and day
at the homes of Mr. and Mrs.

Hardboard Mill
Seen at Swisshome
Washington (IP) A spokes
man for an Oregon lumber
firm said here today that fi
nancing was virtually assured
for a $2Vi million hardboard
mill at Swisshome, Ore.
Rep. Charles O. Porter CD
Ore.) commented that the
plant proposed by the Haskins
Lumber Company would be
a significant boost to the econ
omy of the Swisshome area.
The Haskins officials said
hardboard markets have .re
mained firm despite slumps
in lumber sales. He said the
100-ton Swisshome mill would
be the basis for coordinating
all the scattered Haskins operations.
Naval Bomber Smashes House
Norfolk, Va. nP) Four
charred bodies were removed
Monday night and early today
from a big Navy patrol bomb
er that dropped "smack in the
middle" of a two-story house
in a beachside resort area.
Twelve other persons were
injured, two seriously, when
the plane swooped over the
rooftops of five other cottages
late Monday,, scattering shin
gles and debris in a wide area.
Two of the eight creawmen
were hospitalized in serious
condition.
A Navy investigating board
was to be appointed today to
try to determine what caused
the plane to lose power as it
approached the Norfolk Naval
Air Station for a landing.
It demolished the two-story
home and two others were de
stroyed by fire that broke out
and flared up again during
the night as firemen and Na
val personnel cut into the tan
gled wreckage.
Only 20 feet of the plane's
tail protruded from the house.
Four civilians, including a
teen-aged boy, were slightly
hurt by the flying debris.
One body was- recovered
Monday night and three other
crewmen were found early to
day. The Navy said it was dif
ficult or almost impossible to
identify them and they would
have to resort to dental charts
for positive identification.

bek, 50, an employee of the
U.S. Embassy here, was ar
rested last Dec. 12 for spread
ing false news on internal
politics, security police re
vealed Monday night. They
said Sambek was one of six
persons arrested on the
charge.
Four Children Die
In Utah House Fire
Moab, Utah (IP) Four chil
dren, including twins, burned
to death Monday night when
fire leveled their frame home
near this southeastern Utah
uranium boom town.
Parents of the youngsters,
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Mc
Gauhey, fled from the house
in their night clothes and es
caped with minor cuts and
burns.
Fire Chief Marvin Cleaver
said firemen arrived minutes
after a neighbor of the McGau
heys sounded the alarm, but
the entire house .and a car
parked near it alreadv were
engulfed in flames.
